Age: 15

District/Area: District 4
Appearance:
Standing at roughly 5' 7" Miguel weighs in at solid 135 pounds. A quick glance at the boy reveals that he stands out among the others in his district. Hardened and calloused feet bare the foundation to his limber structure. His legs already sport thicker curly black hairs unlike the sleek bodied citizens of the coastal district. The daily routine of strenuous activities on land and ship alike keep him lean and toned while the constant Sun rays bake his stone skin to a darker olive shade. His posture is surely atrocious and he can be found sitting in awkward positions, hunched over like a gargoyle , or even propped against a wall in the most uncomfortable looking of ways. When approached he meets strangers with tawny honey-brown eyes and an awkward but unique smile that rarely shows teeth. This face is bordered with unforgettable hair that raises eyebrows when he doesn't tuck it under his hat for he has quite a few handfuls of sandy ash and black dreadlocks that tangle and coil from his scalp.Personality:
Miguel adorns his body in very little during the summer days. His sense of style is a matter of function over fashion. His footwear is always sturdy and left in double knots. The shorts he garbs himself in are almost always cargo for he loves pockets even if they end up holding more water than anything. His torso is enveloped in an unbuttoned vest with double breasted pockets while the collar is overlapped by a bandana his mother has given him. Lastly he takes careful time to tie his wrists and hands in a hemp cloth to safeguard his appendages from splinters and abrasion .
For those who can get past his scruffy exterior will find Miguel to be a very imaginative creature . Filled with unfathomable ideas and armed with a quick sense of wit and charm he easily wins over attention and forms bonds with young and elderly alike. His vices are somewhat laughable for even though he loves to meet and spend time with people he always tends to recourse back to his introverted ways and can get extremely anxious when he finds himself without alone time.History:
Many a time you will catch him daydreaming. Just because he is present physically doesn't mean he's on the clock mentally. Miles away his mind could be, calculating, observing, or simply wondering. That is, unless, he's actively engaged in learning something new or entertaining crowds .
Although he comes from money he has been raised to know how much effort it took to get to his family's current standing. Not only does he revel in hardships of a days work but he consistently looks to share his wealth with those who help themselves. Some people are so poor, all they have is money; as his mother would always tell him.
How Miguel came to be is a bit of a mystery that not many try to wrap their head around for they have neither the time nor the patience to understand his circumstances . Instead he is labled, and depending who you ask that labor is either the son of a harlot or a kind hearted fisherman with a knack for entertainment.Codeword: odair
To start, you should know of his mother, Alice. She is a self made woman who has clawed her way to the top in a handful of industries including commercial fishing, aquarium hatcheries , and soon to be hydroponics. This firecracker of a woman was widowed at a young age but not to a fruitless marriage. She had been blessed to give birth to a healthy son and to have a supporting family to compensate the death of her husband. Missed as he was Alice , like time. waits for no one and not more than a year later she began to exercise her ambitions in both romance and the work place.
Luck is where opportunity meets preparation.
Seemingly unrelated at the time and hundreds of miles away a breakthrough had occurred in District 3. The structural integrity of the crane oft found in commercial fishing ships had vastly been improved upon by Tom Kessle, a promising young engineer. This advancement would mean a larger catch could be brought aboard, and a larger catch meant more food for the capitol's endless hunger.
A few months after prototypes and project clearance was granted Tom would find himself heading an installation team that would be travelling to District 4 to bring his design into reality. Now, travel betwixt the districts is still a very rare occurrence so the select few were under strict regulations during their time there. Strict it was. The crew were only allowed to roam a single dock and their quarters were a few small boathouses tied to the nearby pier.
Accommodations aside the crew began diligently working for 10, 12, even 14 hours a day. This was to prevent and eliminate any problems the capitol foresaw in mixing members of different districts. The only people the crew were allowed to interact with were the ship's crew themselves.
As life would have it Alice and Tom had taken a certain liking to another after working together for a few days. As for all the problems the capitol had thought to perceive ...love had not been one of them. Maybe it was that they were heartless themselves and forgotten human nature? No matter the obvious conclusion their relationship would have Tom and Alice had spent a romantic evening under the stars and beside the waves with the added proponent of risk involved in a forbidden love.
Of course the two could never make it public that they were fond of one another. They would be severely punished or even executed. So instead of focusing on the hardships they faced, the two enjoyed the heartwarming few remaining days working together.
The rest is history. Tom went back to District 3 and Alice returned to work with an improved ship. Months later she she was the proud, albeit , persecuted mother of two. Her latest son, Miguel would be a testament that even in a cold world that love can overcome any obstacle.
During his younger years Miguel would jump at every chance to be on a boat when it didn't conflict with school. He learned how to splice lines, tie a varied array of knots, and became a Jack of all trades in the world of ship hands. It seemed he would be following in the path his mother trailblazed for her sons.
That is until he met Charity, an older boy about his brother's age. He would take Miguel under his wing and show him the limelight in the more destitute areas of District 4.
Street performing, dances, card tricks, attempts at psychic predictions, loud stories with funny morals. All of these were Charity's specialty and the possibilities were seemingly endless when he added the angle of a 2 man con to the equation with Miguel's help. The dances grew more spectacular, the card tricks more intricate, and the stories turned to short plays in the square that had man and child alike laughing and donating
