Age: 15
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 5
Appearance:
Azalea isn't anything special when it comes to looks. Her shoulder length hair is a dark shade of brown that can almost seem black. It's cut haphazardly, leaving long bangs that have a tendency to fall in front of her face and cover her eyes. As a result, Azalea never leaves home without some kind of hair tie to pull the mess back and away from her face. The girl's eyes are a light grey color. They almost always have a spark of something, whether it's life, defiance, or energy, from their owner. The orbs can almost always reflect her mood, making the teenager an easy person to read. She's usually sporting a broad smile that lights up the rest of her plain face. Said facial features consist of a small nose, reasonably round face, and normal cheekbones. Add all of these features together, and what do you get? A face that's easy to lose in a crowd.Personality:
Azalea's body and bone structure isn't exactly impressive either. Last time she checked, the girl weighed around 104 pounds. She's never had a large amount of food on the table, so she's pretty thin to begin with. Her frame is petite, standing at a height of five foot one (almost two!) inch. Her height isn't intimidating at all, and she is far shorter than the average girl her age. The most exercise she ever really gets is from walking all around the district. She has a very small amount of muscle on her arms and torso, but that's just from helping around the house. You can find numerous scars on Azalea's hands from where she's burnt herself cooking, or accidentally cut herself with a knife.
With an appearance like this, the only thing that really stands out about the girl is her clothing. It's not fine silks or bright colors, but it is a little unusual. The girl loves the way contrasting colors look, so this is what her wardrobe consists of. Faded shades of black, slightly stained whites, light hues of blues, darker tones of red, and many other shades can be found in her closet. Oftentimes, Azalea matches an old pair of jeans that are a little ripped up or ratty with a t-shirt of some type. It's not that she doesn't try to take care of her clothes and her appearance. In fact, the girl with sometimes use what little cosmetics she can get to dry and draw more attention to herself. But, her parents have had trouble with their money lately. Since she hasn't grown in a while, she hasn't gotten any new clothes. That means she makes do with what she's had for the past few years.
Imagine the most shy, quiet, timid, and unsure girl youve ever met. Now, add being level-headed, down to earth, and mellow to this person's list of traits. This person would be the exact opposite of Azalea. She's the farthest thing from being quiet, shy, and timid you'll find. The girl has a tendency to talk for quite sometime, and can go on about absolutely nothing for an hour. An extrovert all the way, this fifteen year-old loves to meet new people and learn whatever she can about them. She loves to hear their stories and find out exactly where they come from. What was their childhood like? What are their hobbies? Their likes? Their dislikes? And what about their hopes and dreams? If Azalea can talk for hours on end, then she can listen to another person's story for days. But, that'd be boring. Wouldn't it? In return to learning about others, Azalea happily contributes her own opinions and thoughts to a conversation. She can't stand not having an input on a topic, and has cut other people off before so she could talk. She never means to do it. Oftentimes, she talks without really thinking about what she's going to say.History:
The girl can't stand silence. She has to find a way to talk to people and get them to open up. If they're shy, she'll be more gentle in her approach towards them. If they're annoyed with her, she'll back off and give them time to cool down. She tries to be as kind as she can towards others. Of course, she knows that not everyone is a good person. She's more than aware that people can be hateful and horrible to each other. It's unavoidable in a work where the Hunger Games exist. Yet, Azalea always tries to give others the benefit of the doubt. She tries to think that everyone has some kind of good inside their heart. Sure, they may not be willing to help others or be kind to each other, but that doesn't mean they're evil. So, she tries to help anyone she can. She hates to see others suffering, or in trouble, and will do anything she can to help them. She likes to think that if she helps them, someday they may turn around and help someone else. Needless to say, she can be a bit naive.
With a mindset and personality like this, Azalea has gotten on the nerves of more than a few people. She knows she's a little (okay, maybe very) nosey. She's more than aware she can be loud and obnoxious. The girl can be a total ditz at times, and she's definitely not the smartest person you'll ever meet. She has lots of flaws, and takes insults and rude comments that other people throw her way to heart. What can she say? Azalea wears her heart on her sleeve for the world to see. She doesn't bother hiding her feelings from others. She just doesn't see the point in it. She openly lets others know how she feels. If she's hurt or insulted enough, the teenager will shut down and refuse to talk. Once this happens, she can hold the grudge for a long time. She's a stubborn person, and it's led her parents time and time again to ripping out their hair from her antics. Yet, this can be a good trait of hers too. If she disagrees with something, she takes a stand against it. She hates it when people are cruel to each other or try to hurt one another, so she tries to do something about it. She lets her emotions control her, and, because of this, her life can be like a roller coaster.
It's funny how some of her best qualities are also some of her worst. Her ability to talk her way into, and out of, bad situations have gotten her in trouble time and time again. Her curiousity has landed her in those same predicaments too. It's what drives her to talk to so many people. In fact, this curiosity is why she can be so loud mouthed and annoying. She's more than a little clumsy, and has a very bad history with the kitchen stove. The girl is aware she's a handful to deal with. She knows that sometimes her family and friends need a lot of patience to put up with her, and she really appreciates it. She's terrified that someday they may run out of what little patience they have left, and that they'll just give up on her. Azalea hates the idea of being abandoned, and being left alone to face the cruel world she lives in. She knows she could never be the next victor of the Hunger Games. She knows she wouldn't stand a chance. But she does stand a chance at life, and that's what she's trying to figure out.
Life has never been especially hard for Azalea. Her parents both work with the oil rigs that litter the district, but she's always had enough food on the table. She's always gotten what she needed, but her parents never did have any money to spoil her or her older sister with. She always looked up to her sister, and used to try her absolute best to be like her. She still sees her as a role model though, and admires her more laid back personality. She has a hard time living up to the standards her sister set, and freaks out when she just can't seem to meet the expectations her teachers and parents seem to have. Azalea has trouble getting the great grades her sister achieves, and ended up giving up being the perfect daughter around seven. That was when she began to stop idolizing her sister, and realized that she could be her own person.Codeword: <img src="http://i41.tinypic.com/16h2ibt.png">
Growing up in District Five was always some what of an adventure to the younger version of Azalea. She loved to visit her best friends's family ranch and help take care of the different animals. She'd often spend her afternoons there, and help to feed and groom all the different species. She'd spend hours talking to them and her friend, and usually said whatever was on her mind. Spending so much time with the animals helped her to hold onto the optimism she somehow withholds in a world where the Hunger Games are an annual event. It also gave her the chance to stop being so shy and self conscious about what she said. Practicing on animals that didn't seem to judge her helped a lot. As they grew older, Azalea and her friend stopped spending so much time on the ranch. But she still held onto her tendency to want to help out others and say whatever she felt like.
She doesn't know what job she wants to go into. It's hard for the teenager to see herself becoming a great doctor, or owning a shop in her adult life. All she's ever known is the oil refineries, and it seems almost impossible to become something else. That doesn't mean she won't try though. Whatever happens, Azalea definitely doesn't want to work in a refinerie like her parents. She figures she'll come up with something, so long as she isn't chosen to compete in the Hunger Games. Azalea knows she'd never be able to make it in the Hunger Games, and is terrified that she may get reaped. She knows she's not the strongest, fastest, or the smartest. The only chance she'd have at surviving is talking the other tributes into not killing her, and that probably wouldn't go over well. She's seen too many tributes, kids, die in there at each other's hand. She'd be tramautized if she ended up having to put someone else through that.
