Jade Delorme {District 7}

Jade Delorme is one of the young women living in the entertainment and restaurant area of district 7. She stands at five feet and four inches and weighing only a hundred ten pounds, giving her a slim body and a lean build. She has slightly ruffled hair the color of brown rust that accompanies her jade-green eyes. These eyes shine beautifully, usually outlined by eye liner and mascara; a luxury that she can afford. Due to her Celtic roots, she has very light skin that burns easily if out in the sun too long.

Jade likes to wear simple clothing, being just a pair of jeans and a black or white tee. She prefers this simple style over anything that is too flashy or formal when it isn’t necessary. When she performs with her brother, she wears a floral dress with a black background and white jade flowers as a pattern. The bottom of the dress reaches a few inches lower then her knees. Jade wears a necklace made out of Jade and Onyx in a similar design as her brother’s bracelet. They both wear matching accessories to show that they are connected as siblings. All these details make the appearance of Jade Delorm; the seventeen-year-old girl.

The grand piano in their parents’ restaurant is the most expensive thing that they own. Jade has developed the natural talent that she had of playing the piano. This talent is actually obtained from her grandmother, Selah, through lessons since she was a piano player herself. The young adolescent cannot play the instrument without any mistake during performances. Not only is it her greatest talent, but it’s also her way to relive stress.

Jade was a gifted singer as a child. Some may say with even more potential than her brother, but due to an unfortunate accident as a child, Jade no longer has the ability to speak or sing again. Her neck had been hit when she was nine years old, and since then she’s lost the talent she had. Though her singing is lost, it actually made her focus more on her piano playing which has made her the gifted virtuoso she is now.

Jade isn’t a very nice person, but she isn’t mean either. The only one she can truly be herself around in her little brother, Onyx. They just have a deep connection since their birth, as if they where predetermined friends. Although they are very close, they seem to be quite the opposite. While he is good at social skills, she isn’t. From birth she never really was the one to carry or start long conversations, but now that she can’t speak, she’s lost all patients with trying to communicate with people. Onyx is one of the only people that can understand what she means or wants the first time. Another thing is that she has a short temper with people who take too long to try and understand what she means because it will just be to frustrating for her.

Although she has quite a few negative things about her, she also has a few positive traits to show as well as other talents. Other than playing the piano, she’s a very good chef, being one of the head chefs in her parent’s restaurant. Another thing is that she’s very good with any school work given to her, being able to solve the problems given to her relatively quickly.

Jade is the First child of Laura and James Delorme, the second being her brother; Onyx Delorme. The couple own a restaurant that used to be owned by James’s father. He’s inherited the restaurant, and kept the business as the new owner. The family’s restaurant has the luxury of being able to afford a grand piano after the first decade of business. His mother, (Jade’s grandmother) Selah, was a gifted piano player, but her talent was wasted when her son and daughter-in-law weren’t too interested in playing the piano.

When the young couple conceived Jade’s little brother, the newborn’s grandfather died of natural causes. It was great loss of for the family and the business to lose the original owner of the restaurant and the head of the house hold. Jade and Onyx where too young to remember any of the sadness from that experience, so all they heard was that ‘their grandfather died’ without any real details. Business became slow for a while, and Selah didn’t have any inspiration to play the piano.

By the time, Jade was 4 and Onyx was 3, they saw that untouched piano and started playing with it. The young girl just mashed the ‘buttons’ playing randomly without any real song, while Onyx was humming along to the notes she was playing. After a bit of fooling around with they keys, the girl tried to mimic the melody of the lullaby that the two young children heard when they where little. By the time Jade got the figured out half the melody; Onyx remembered the lyrics and started singing while she played the piano. This is the first baby-steps they took in developing their musical talent.

Selah was watching them, and decided not to interrupt them in exploring what they have inherited from their grandparents. After the two figured out that lullaby and played it properly, Selah went to the two young children and asked if they’d be interested in learning how to both sing and play the piano. Truthfully, Onyx wasn’t very good at the piano, so he learned more singing techniques then Jade did. Jade earned the ability to play the piano and sing properly. This sparked hope is Selah for the musical talent in the family to be revived.

By the time, Jade was ten and Onyx was nine, they were very advanced and professional for children their age. Now, business for the restaurant was looking up and everything was returning to normal after the loss of the grandfather. A sudden twist came upon the family again when a few burglars came to raid the house one night. The grand piano they had was a sign of wealth, and made them prey for a robbery. As soon as the family heard the window smash from outside, they all ran down the stairs to see two people in masks, holding bats. James and Laura ran over to the robber who had the money and managed to scare him off without much harm.

The other was next to the piano, about to smash it, but Selah, Jade and Onyx went to try and stop the offender. Jade, being young and quick, made it to the thief first, and tried the best she could to protect the property of the restaurant. Sadly, the robber got the best of the young girl, and managed to swing that bat right into her neck. The force wasn’t big enough to tear any ligaments, but it permanently damaged her vocal cords, making her unable to scream from the pain of being hit. Selah, made it just in time, a second before the thief took a second swing at the girl; grabbing the bat before it descended on the small fragile body. The robber was too large for the frail, old, and woman and managed to give a clear punch to her abdomen. In her recoil, the offender proceeded to beating her up with the bat. A few swings later and she becomes unconscious. Now, James and Laura come to rescue Selah, while Onyx ran off to find a Peacekeeper to arrest the criminal.

By the time Onyx came back with the Peacekeeper, the thief became too weak to move, and got arrested. They also tried to get medical attention for Jade and Selah, for they were the ones who got hurt in this incident. Doctors were called to the scene and examined the two injured people. For Jade, it was too late for her vocal cords, making her not able to speak or sing ever again. Selah got it far worse, eventually loosing her life from the injuries days later. The family was now again struck with a great loss. It didn’t affect the business as it did with her grandfather, but it was going to emotionally affect the workers. During the funeral of Selah, Onyx and Jade did a tribute performance to their dead grandmother. Onyx singing and Jade playing a song that was thought to them.

Even after the death of Selah, the two children still practiced their musical talent. When Jade was 14 and Onyx was 13, the whole family moved along again from the loss of the older generation. The idea of performing came up in Onyx’s mind, so he asked his sister what her opinion was. Since she’s not able to speak, she uses sign language; something she and her brother learned from a book. This way, they’re able to communicate with each other. By this time, she got over the frustration of not being able to speak. She approved of her younger brother’s idea, and they both went to ask their father to do a performance in the restaurant. James decided to humour them, and allowed the two to perform a song number for the customers.

Jade played a melody on the piano and Onyx sand the lyrics to the song. This brought a spark of memory to the people who came to the restaurant while Selah and her husband were still alive. Also, the sight and sound of performers which are complimentary to the meal, gave the restaurant a good impression on the customers. From that point on, as well as working in their family business as a chef, she and her brother are to do a performance every weekend in evening hours. Currently, Jade still does his performances with his sister, learning and practicing more songs with her. She exceeds in school, but she has a very small amount of friends.
