Lyrics
You think I'm an ignorant savage
And you've been so many places
I guess it must be so
But still I cannot see
If the savage one is me
How can there be so much that you don't know?
You don't know ...
And you've been so many places
I guess it must be so
But still I cannot see
If the savage one is me
How can there be so much that you don't know?
You don't know ...
It was my first time ever hunting. My father told me to try to use a spear, but I was only eight years old and I couldn't dare to kill an animal. The animals are my friends. I ready the spear and throw it towards a deer. When I miss, the deer runs off and the spear falls to the ground about ten feet short.
You think you own whatever land you land on
The Earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name
The Earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name
My father isn't dissapointed in me, luckily. Normally he and the other wanderers nearby do the hunting. If they hunt, we often trade them with the fruits and such that I gather. My deer-hide pouch that I often keep strapped to my waist is what I use to hold the berries. I am suprisingly good at recognizing berries.
You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew you never knew
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew you never knew
Dad lets me head out and get some berries. I end up gathering things like blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. The one thing I make sure to get are some mulberries from the tree I tend to sleep in. I climb up the tree and gather some. I then head back to Dad with the berries.
Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned?
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountains?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned?
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountains?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
I give Dad the berries and he lets me wander a bit. As I'm walking around, I decide to head to my Mulberry tree. What I see makes me upset. Their is someone else in my tree! I decide to climb up. "What are you doing in my tree?"
Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sunsweet berries of the Earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once, never wonder what they're worth
Come taste the sunsweet berries of the Earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once, never wonder what they're worth
