Stormy slowly cradeled the blankets over her shoulders, curled up in a tight little ball. She breathed slowly, and tried to calmly slip into slumber. It wasn't working, nor had it been the last few hours. She flickered open her dark blue eyes, facing her little sister. She was fast asleep, the blankets rising and falling slowly to her quiet snoring. Stormy gave up on sleep, slowly pulling the blankets aside, attempting not to disturb her little sister. She placed her feet on the floor, feeling the warm night air in her room. She stood, walking towards her dresser. She got on her hands and knees and reached an arm under, feeling the false bottom and taking it out. She slipped out her bow and arrows, shoving her quiver over her shoulder.
Reaching into her other drawr, she pulled out sweat pants and an old gray t-shirt. She stripped her nightwear and clothed herself. Stormy glanced back at Lilac, then opened their bedroom door. She walked confidently down the hallway, passing her parents bedroom with ease. Their door was shut, and so was her older brother's door. She opened the front door, slipping into the darkness. She gripped her bow in her right hand. Many times, she asked herself what owning a bow could be punished for. It's not like she shot anything with it, but merely practiced the art in a place no one would get hurt. The fourteen year old shook her head and stepped away from her house. She turned down an alley way, quietly walking with a sense of high alert.
Stormy saw the district gate, and the row of houses a few feet away from it. She turned, finding a spot behind one of the houses and sitting with her back to it, facing the fence. She sat there for a few moments with her eyes closed, listening to the crickets outside the fence. She then dragged her bow into her lap and pulled out an arrow. Turning to sit on her knees, she put the arrow to the string and pulled it back. The back of her hand touched her cheek, and she let out a breath. She released it, letting the string pull the arrow forward with a zip. It shot through an open end of the fence and whizzed into the open, dissaparing from her eyesight. She breathed out, relaxed by letting lose her arrow. Her belly grumbled, but Stormy ignored it as she drew another arrow.
