I was hanging around a tree. Thinking. Was there a way to get food? Of course... There always was. My goat, Kathy, was beside me. Chewing my mother's top. Uh-oh. I'm dead. That was her best top. I bit my lip. Maybe she wouldn't notice. I doubt it. That was the reaping top. Ruined. Again. "Kathy goat! Drop the top. BAD. You should know by now not to eat mummy's top." The damn goat bleated at me defiantly... It never was the best behaved thing. I loved her though. She was the last thing left. The last one left... I hadn't seen the girl that helped me in ages either... She'd probably forgotten me. I was just the weird girl that no one wanted anything to do with. She was much higher class than me... I wasn't nothing special. I never would be. I would never reach to the standards of anyone... My own parents seemingly wanted nothing to do with me. I was just a tho- 'EMERALD LIGHTSHADOW. Do not EVER think like that..." Jenna's harsh tones spilt through my mind. I know. I was degrading myself again and she hated it. But who cares? All of it was true.

"Jenna is right Emerald."[/b][/i] Laura's calm tones escape my mouth before I can even think "You shouldn't talk like you do. You're a survivor. You lived while others haven't. You are special. You are my friend. Jenna likes you. Tamzin idolises you. We love you. And you can do anything!" I feel my body flood with hope and realisation. I was a survivor. Born and raised. I wouldn't die like many before me because I had help. People didn't believe in Laura, Tammy and Jenna, but that wasn't because I didn't prove it. It was because they didn't realise that their isolation caused me to be who I am today. Their isolation made me independent. It made me strong. It made ME, Emerald Lightshadow of district 10, a survivor. My hope and happiness is short lived. People around me were dying. The capitol hired monsters to keep us in line. Peacekeepers.

At that point I thought I heard something. So, as quick as a squirrel I lept up, grabbing a tree that I hadn't even noticed and scurried up it. It was then, I realised, I'd wandered into a small woody area. Greens mottled with browns made me feel happy. Almost like I was at home. Climbing trees was a passion of mine, despite all the accidents I got into. I looked, the noise never came again. I shook off the feeling and lowered myself onto the branch below me. I took in my surroundings, not very interesting, until I looked up, I noticed an apple and screamed, fruit. So not my forté. I tumble out of the tree. Before sighing I check for damage. Nothing. No broken tree branches and just one scratch that would be gone by morning on my arm. Unnoticeable and easily healed. I shake my head."Always one to get hurt." Tamzin's giggle makes me scowl, especially since it escaped through my lips. Very irritating.[/colour][/size]

If I had a coin for every time I had been to this area of the district I'd be a lot richer than I am now. This place just seemed so... Calming, especially now. My life was in a mess and had always been. Ever since mummy died, but then again. She would want me to be happy, not this extremely depressed girl that I have become. She would want me to be the girl I tried to be for her, the happy-go-lucky girl I tried to be but ended up failing. I just have to think positive. Ignore the Capitol and the Peacekeepers, ignore any possibility of death. Just be happy, that's all, just be happy. Any way as my thoughts went through all this rambling I blindly walked through the area. A small stick crunching underneath my small foot as I perched myself on a log. Taking in the scenery around me as I brush my blonde hair to the right, then lean against a close tree. Shutting my eyes but not sleeping. I wonder if anyone was out here.

I open my eyes quickly as something seems to thump in the distance, well going by the noise it had to be a bit off. I watch the area in front of my for a while then decide to get up and go towards it. Fighting my way through all the twigs and undergrowth to the target, before falling flat on my face. Pain seared through my nose as I gave of a light scream. Rolling around slowly and feeling my nose and around it. It felt fine, and it wasn't bleeding. Which was lucky. I wonder how I landed then, surely that would've broken it at least. Meh. Don't argue with a good thing my dad would say. Anyways, I get up slowly, then look around. Not seeing anyone and I could've sworn the noise came from here. Meh, I groan and decide to stay where I was, again leaning against a tree and checking my nose. [/size]

I heard a scream, in the distance, but it sounded too close for comfort. So I investigate, I swing down from the tree and edge towards the noise. "H-Hello?"[/b] I said timidly, I half hoped the person was injured, as to not give them a reason to yell at me, until I saw her, I recognised that hair, that person... But I couldn't put a name to a face. I know, you think that I should remember the face of the girl that haunted my thoughts. But no, I couldn't name her. I knew her. But her name had slipped through my fingers. I flush red with anger at myself. How dare I wish injury on someone so small and innocent.

'Emerald, it's not your fault. You didn't know it was her.' The thoughts of my best friend quickly snap me out of my depression. Tamzin was right, I didn't know. I didn't know her name either... Although I should. She seemed too familiar. I hit my head with my palm and bite my lip. Did I want her to respond? I think I'd rather hide. But I don't. My feet were glued to the floor and I'm rendered immobile. Aparently I was going to have to talk to her. Joy. She'd probably just run away from me. It was a wonder she hadn't the first time.

"The first time! That's it!"[/b][/i] Exclaims Jenna, through my mouth. Meanie. "That's Caitie... The one that saved you. Last time... It was Caitie wasn't it?" "Caitlynn. The one that doesn't trust."[/i][/b] Laura's words hit me like a tonne of bricks. That girl. The one that stayed. I groan, fancy forgetting my savior. I'm so stupid. I look the girl over, she had her hand on her nose, "Are you okay?"[/i][/colour] I enquire. Sure she must have heard the conversation with my friends.[/colour][/size]

My ears pick up on a small rustling then on a small word "H-Hello?" Being said in a way that made it sound scared yet curious at the same time, though even this causes me to jump back and hide a little behind the tree I was leaning against and peek out from the side in the direction that called. My right hand stayed connected to my aching nose though, if I did break it, which didn't seem likely, I don't want to run the risk of damaging it further. I suddenly hear an out burst, something about a first time? Then a reply in a different voice, then another voice asking if someone was okay, so my eyes start flickering around to see who said what before I see one girl. Who looked familiar, and a picture of a goat runs through my head as I try to place a name on her. Kathy? Or was that the goat? No that was her wasn't it? Either way my reply was a small nod from behind the tree. Then something clicks in my head, did she say my name? Worse yet. Did she call me Caitie?

I step out slowly from behind the tree, my face now showing a half angered expression at the name, Cait I like, but Caitie? No. Sounded too... Basic for me. Then again I am hardly a complex girl. The undergrowth crunches underneath my feet as I take another step forward to put me parallel to the tree, my hand retreating from my nose as I look into it. A crimson liquid dripping off the edge of my hand. Brilliant, I broke it. As the thought passes my head a huge pain erupts in the area and I cling to it tightly with both hands, trying not to cry as I stare at the girl through watering eyes. Then bending before raising my head right up to try and stem the bleeding, okay I may be a drama queen but I knew what to do with bleeding.

I keep my head up high and try to take another step forward towards the other girl, which causes a trip and me to move my hands to stabilize myself from falling again. Then I shoot them right back to my nose, it was not like I hadn't experienced pain before, I dealt with it quite easy in all honesty, it was more emotional pain from no where that riddled my life. Anyway, I suddenly lose all interest in the girl as my thoughts become focused on the damage. What was I going to do? Daddy couldn't help it, and I didn't know how to... [/size]

I look at the girl as I see her move, the angered expression on her face making me shrink back. What did I do? I notice the blood as she moves her hand and I freeze, I knew how to help. Mummy had showed me... But she had glared at me... Would she want my help? She didn't like me... As she moves towards me, then trips, I had to make a decision, she saved me, now I can repay the debt. Then, if she never wants to see me again, I'll move on, debt paid. "Excuse me, Caitlynn... If that was your name... Do you want help? I know how to stem bleeding, kindof, and I can get some herbs that will help you recover, and meat."[/b] I'd take her home, get mummy to help me.

I was thinking, about the first time, she'd been so nice. Where had that gone. Sure she was bleeding, but why was she annoyed? Did I do something wrong? Okay, Caitie... Caitlynn, What ever.--" "Jenna. NO!" "Shut up Emerald, Alright. don't make my friend upset, we may not get along, but you upset Emerald, I'll hurt you..." I sniff quietly. There goes any chance of friendship... Not that she wanted to be my friend. Who would? "Miss Caitlynn. I'm sorry for Jenna. She doesn't like Emerald upset and instead tries to hurt those who upset us, Emerald is our friend. She was only seeing if you were okay. You upset her with your glare... I'm sorry." I sigh at that. Laura always one to apologise. Even when it WASN'T HER FAULT.

I notice the girl again and take a step backwards, I knew where the herbs were, I'd be right back after getting them... IF she wanted my help that was. I looked at her then made a shrill whistle. A goat immediately trotted up to me and bleats casually. I grin, "Kathy goat. Stay with the girl. I'll be right back." I ran to the painkilling herb plant. Grinning. I was back in under five minutes and I knelt besides the girl. I smile at her, "Here, you can eat them, they'll take some of the pain away and even stop the blood a little."[/b] I whisper gently, trying to give her the herb cautiously. I wanted to help her. Alot. To pay her back for saving me.[/size][/colour]

I blink at the tree as I am talked to and look back at the source. A more pained expression on my face now but as she speaks as my facial expression some what softens. My hands still holding my nose as I tilt my head at the offer, but before I even have time to answer another voice tones in from the girl, get's interrupted but passes it off, and continues, the voice was hostile, and the mentioning of me getting hit instantly widened my eyes, before they turn into a full on glare and I move into a more defensive and optimal position. Moving my hands away from my bloodied nose to hold them in a sorta boxing, as I did when I was being threatened. Till yet another voice tones in. This one apologizing and calling me by a name I actually like, and suddenly I know who the girl was. Emerald. With her voices Jenna, Tamzin and Laura. My expression softens considerably as I notice and I stood there for a while, then, all of sudden a load whistle protrudes my ears, causing me to flinch a bit before a goat trots up beside the girl, and bleats.

Emerald then tells the goat to stay with me and she runs off, leaving me completely confused and blinking. I look towards the goat and kneel beside it, ignoring the pain and the bleeding that had now surpassed my lips and gave me a metallic taste of blood in my mouth. I put out one hand to pet the goat but the other girl returns before I do and it causes me to jump in surprise as I look round and see her kneeling next to me, I fall back a little and my hand falls off the goat, but what? I was just going to pet it and now my hand was on it? (She was thinking too much) Urrr, I shake off all thoughts, and look at the girls hand, barely listening to her words as I touch my nose, it was still bleeding? Gah. Anyway, I nervously hold out my hand, staying laying with a semi surprised face on. The noticing I had not said a word to the girl and already placing trust in her about these herbs.

I decide to sit up, lowering my hand before she could give me them and look at her with a serious face. Then ask, finding my voice a little louder than normal "How do I know they will?" The voice surprised me. How I managed to pull off an almost monotone sentence was beyond me, but just beyond that, and something in my eye showed friendship. I could just feel it. Was this my first proper friend or am I thinking up stuff too quickly? [/Size]

I don't lie."[/b] I was fuming, try and help someone and they're not interested. All because I was the weirdo of District 10. Like it was my fault. I could hear Jenna prattling on in my mind. Threatening to kill the girl. But that wouldn't do me any favours...

Emerald, let me at the girl... I wanna hurt her...[/i] I refused, there was still a chance I could have a friend... A slim chance, but a chance no less. I frown at the girl and put the berries on the floor next to her. "You don't have to eat them... But Emerald will be upset if you refuse them... She's only trying to help you." Chimes Laura. Which annoys me to no end. I knew I'd be upset. But she didn't have to tell miss Ungrateful that. "Laura, shush, stop telling people how Emerald will feel. It isn't your place."[/b] Tamzin's voice sounds around us. Almost daydreamy with just a hint of hostility as she spoke to Laura. Ah. I love that girl. I frown at Caitlynn and let out a shrill whistle.

Kathy bounds up to me like a dog and even leaps onto me, bleating. I chuckle and hug the goat tightly. Then Kathy climbs off me, goes to the berries and pushes them, with her nose, closer to Caitlynn. I frown, it was no use, if the girl didn't accept the berries she'd stay hurt. It was her call. I would no longer stay with her if she didn't take my help offer. I wasn't going to sit with someone who didn't appreciate my efforts... Why should I? I stand, ready to move away.[/colour][/size]

My eyes scan the girl and I pick up on the girl glare, then listening to her closely and a look of confusion comes across me, now where the hell did that come from? Her sudden defensive nature puts me instantly on guard cause it was like she was trying to cover something up. The dim friendly look in my eye evaporates and my face turns to sadness, almost like I was going to cry before it turned to anger. Clenching my fists into the undergrowth and giving the girl the biggest glare I could muster as she places the berries, or herbs, or whatever they where on the floor. Then as I open my mouth to speak, I get cut short, and softer voice intones and that softens my looks a bit, and I couldn't help a small giggle escaping me at the other voice telling the softer one off. I end up staring at the Berries though, then giving a mixed look at the girl, then another flinch as the shrill whistle once again protrudes me ear. Did she really have to do that, the goat was right beside me.

I look up to see the goat pretty much pounce the other girl, then after getting hugged climbs off her and pushes the herb things closer to me with it's nose, I give a small smile to the goat and then look up to the girl as she stands. Before I shut my eyes and place a hand next to the berries, using the other one to gently wipe the blood away from my mouth. A small whisper passing through me in response to the girl. "There was absolutely no need to break out into one, I was being cautious, I have never heard of a plant that could do that, I was just being careful, also, the glare had nothing to do with me and you being friends, it was more of the fact the name Caitie annoyed me, I prefer Cait or Caitlynn, hell I would prefer Nightbird to that." Suddenly my anger raises and I take hold of the berries in my hand gently, not crushing them cause I was still wondering whether I should eat them or not, and stand up to face the girl, despite her towering over me in size. "The fact you where also so defensive over them makes me suspicious as well, regardless if you are trying to help or don't lie I still want to be careful, I don't want to die from some random plant!"

Yeah maybe I was over doing it with the yelling but this was all aimed at Emerald and maybe the hostile other voice, my glare focused on her face as I look around, the fix it back on her. Before sighing and trying a different approach. A more subtle one. "Look, I will eat them, if you swear to me they don't have any side effects, and not go off into one when I question a thing that I have never seen before" My glare softens as I speak and I eventually look at the berries in my hand. Trying to figure out what exactly they did as blood dripped from my nose still. The pain still there but mostly masked by emotion. Hopefully that offer will cool things down. I am surprised I haven't started crying yet actually, then again, I've done enough crying. [/size]

I glare as this gfirl yells at me, preparing to give it all back when I pick up a berry she missed off the floor, then another one, I eat one and so does Kathy and nothing happens because we weren't in pain or bleeding. I smirk at the girl before laughing like a madwoman, my true colours shining through and start shouting at her. All the while looking her dead in the eyes. "Oh don't bother! Why trust insanity huh? I was all for getting to know you before... When you saved my life. But now I'm not sure. Why would I bother helping an ungrateful BRAT. Maybe Jenna was right. Maybe I should let her harm you. But why would I? I have some sense left in me despite my abnormalities. I don't WANT to hurt you... But I, unlike you, lead an abnormal life... You have people that care about you, don't you?"[/b] My voice stifles an I sink to the floor sobbing quietly. "I don't have that... No one... I'm just a loner... Why trust the recluse, huh? Not that I blame you"[/b] I continue sobbing, despite being older than the girl, I bet I was weaker. In all aspects of the word.

I had wanted to befriend this girl. But she had proved she didn't want to several times today. I bury my head in my hands, even ignoring Kathy as she tried giving me a hug. I wasn't good enough for this girl. I was just a pain. A distraction... Hated. Rejected. Alone. Fated to be alone forever. (OOC- :foreveralone: ) I didn't blame her for hating me... It wasn't her fault I'm so abnormal. I sniff a few times before hearing a loud bleat in my ear. I look at the goat with red eyes. As I throw my arms around her neck she bites my top. Making a watery and hollow laugh pulse through me. "I know Kathy goat... I know."[/b] I whisper before looking up at the standing girl. I wasn't going to apologise and looking at her made it words and I started crying again, burying my head in the goat's soft coat. My body was convulsing with sobs again, seeping through the goat's hair. Kathy bleats at me. So I move. Big mistake as Jenna rises to my surface. My voice clear and no evidence I'd just cried my eyes out in Jenna's voice. "See what you do? Emerald did nothing wrong and you shoot her down? What's wrong with you!?"[/b]

I stop Jenna relitively quickly and sit on the floor sadly, playing with the dirt. My bloodshot eyes were trained on the picture I was making with my finger. It was two stick people holding hands. I sniff as I look at it. That was all I ever wanted. A friend. I never got that. Bet I never would as well... Everyone hated me. Even this girl that I'd only met once. It was obvious... Someone like her, pretty and everything, would never like someone like me. Ugly and insane. I was different. In so many people's eyes being different is a flaw not many people were willing to over look. Being different could mean that you were dangerous. And God forbid anyone thought a meek 14 year old that stood at under 5' could be safe despit being odd.[/colour][/size]

I just watch the girl as she takes up a berry I had missed and as she feeds one to her goat and herself. I scan both of them quickly and nothing happens to them then I glance to the hand that was holding the berries. Before fixing my gaze back on her as she starts laughing. It was that kinda laugh that give you chills, not a normal one at least. Then, I take a step back as she starts scolding me. My gaze turning 10 times more hostile at the words "Ungrateful brat" but before I could give it back her voice shrinks, her form also as it gently lowers to the floor. Tiling my head slightly and suddenly I don't know what to do, run or stay and comfort, she did call me an ungrateful brat though, then again. She does look like she needs help. My body and it's form become jarred to the spot as I try to figure out what my next move will be, I hated moments like this. Having no clue on what you are going to do and with that little bit of fear that manages to glue you to the spot the moment can become really horrid.

I watch as the goat as the goat approaches the girl and tries to... Well. What looks like it was trying to get a hug from her as she buries her head in her hands. I look around quietly before taking a big breath, about to talk before the goat bleats, and all air exhales from my body as I watch Emerald hug the goat, and what would have normally caused me to smack the goat happen. Biting her top and all she does is reply with "I know Kathy goat... I know" Didn't it need to be punished, well, at least she laughed... I guess. I watch her stand up. Then look at me. Then collapse into the goat again. Which bleats in disapproval so she moves. Before a voice comes from the girl. Asking what was wrong with me. It was the same voice that called me Caitie. My blue eyes yet again turn dark as I let out a, what I would call hammering reply to her "If you hadn't called me Caitie this wouldn't have happened!" Though by the time I had taken time to realize where the girl had gone. She was sitting on the floor again.

Something tells me to kneel in front of her so I do,watching her scribble two stick people holding hands in the dirt and all of a sudden my heart softens. My eyes become wide at the picture and I look up to the girl. "Is that what you want?" I make my voice go to the softest and calming tone I could give. Giving what she just said I assume the drawing was of friends. So why not give her one. I look up at her and decide to try something... And I put a C above one of them, for Caitlynn, then an E next to the other one. Then eating the berries she gave me. Blood had still been flowing and it got into my mouth again but I didn't want, or couldn't be bothered to wipe it. As I wait for the berries to work I look up to her, and point to the letters, still using the same tone "How about, instead of this arguing, we both apologize and we can become friends? Like these two, see I put C for Caitlynn and E for Emerald above them, do you want to try that?"

I have no idea what came over me when I offered because she will probably ignore the offer, giving what just happened. Though who knew? I was willing to forgive, the main question is was she? I look at the girl scrutinizingly. Did she mean it? How could I tell? She's probably just pretending. Or felt sorry for me. I must look pathetic. Crying like a baby because she implied that she didn't trust me. Damn it. Why couldn't I be cool. Or normal. Or both? No, I was stuck with being me. It sucks. I try to stop staring at her and my gaze drops to the floor. "I put C for Caitlynn and E for Emerald above them, do you want to try that?" Did I? I wasn't sure. I didn't want to risk getting hurt, but I really wanted a friend. I pet the Goat's muzzle and whisper to the girl; "It's okay. I don't need pity. You don't have to be my friend just because of a picture. I'm used to being turned down... I don't mean to sound rude, I just don't think someone as pretty as you should be seen with someone like me... I get shunned... I frown at the words and flop onto my back so I was laying staring at the sky. For ages I was just trying to stay calm and I was wondering how I hadn't run away yet.
