Training had been tough that day. I hadn't noticed, but I had kind of enjoyed the swimming part. I had just been doing archery, and kinda failing, but then I saw the pool. Water made me feel so relaxed, as if I was at ease and the blurry blue world was a world where the Games never existed. Although I liked the Games, sometimes it became too much. I watched carefully as my trainer instructed us how to dive. I already knew, of course, but this diving technique was from a higher structure. We got onto narrow diving boards. I held my hands up high, the palms of them clashed together, and jumped, going upside-down. Water filled my nostrils as I crashed through the liquid and I popped up at the center of the pool.
The sun had been shining outside and it was a shame I was crammed inside the training center. At least the water was cool and sent a relaxed fluttery feeling through my body. We got out the pool and I went into the bathroom, into one of the stalls. I pulled off my swimsuit and put on my casual clothes, and I unlocked the stall. My friend in the next stall was still getting changed, so I rubbed clean, chlorine-free water on my face and rubbed it in. Then my friend came out and we headed back inside. No, we weren't done yet. We had only just began. My friend headed to do some more archery, leaving me in the training center stuck on what to do. Eventually I lamely walked back to the bathroom and changed back into my swimsuit, heading back to the large pool.
I climbed up towards the diving board, and my trainer nodded approvingly at me, complimenting my extra practice. Some people watched me up high on the board, and I dived in, wriggling under the water and then surfacing. A few clapped, and then I saw my friend in the corner, her bow in hand, an arrow in it. She released it, and it jammed itself in the middle. I sighed and then decided to go to the bottom of the pool. I slowly sank underneath, back in the blurry blue place, and sat cross-legged at the bottom. My brunette hair was floating in all directions, wavy and looking pretty nice. Then I couldn't hold my breath any longer and I surfaced again. The attention was transferred from my friend to me. Everyone came to tell me how much I'd got.
20 seconds. Not bad. But next time, I'll go for 30.
