District/Area: District 12
Appearance:
Charity stands 4'3" tall and weighs 75 pounds. She has long, curly, red hair that falls to her waist. Her hair is usually in a braid. The braid starts at the front of her head in a double braid, then twists around her head, then runs into a single braid down her back. She's very light complected; almost the color of a sheet of paper like she hasn't been out in the sun for a long time. Her tiny, round eyes are grey with hints of yellow.Personality:
Her nose is angular and slightly crooked. Her tiny lips are always forming a smile. Charity has a thin, pink scar that runs from the corner of her right eye to the corner of her lips on the right side. Her annoying freckles stand out more than ever on her light complected skin. Her chin is slightly angular and comes to a point.
At first, Charity appears to be extremely shy until she gets to know a person. She won't talk unless someone talks to her first. She prefers to be alone with her thoughts. She's an introvert. She avoids talking openly. She will usually stare at a person she wants to talk to in order for he/she to talk first. She enjoys going for long walks by herself. She doesn't trust people easily. It takes a while for her to gain trust in someone. As it takes a while for her to trust someone, it takes even longer to regain trust in someone once the trust is broken. Most people would see her as trustworthy. She's one people can go to with a problem knowing she won't judge them.History:
She's honest with people. She always tries to be honest with people. She hates the feeling lying gives her. She will be try to be honest no matter what it is. She doesn't judge a book by it's cover. She gets to know people before she tries to figure out who they are. She's very polite to people even if they aren't polite to her. She treats others the way she wants to be treated. She's very respectful. She treats others with respect even if she feels they don't deserve it.
Charity is usually very happy. She always wears a smile. Very rarely will you ever see her frowning. If she's sad, she'll still smile to try to remain strong. She puts on a happy face so others won't know she's sad. She also has a slight temper. It takes a lot to make her angry, but once the bomb is detonated, she's not a pleasant person to be around. She usually acts without thinking, and regrets what she's done.
Charity was born in the poorest part of District 12 to Dalilah and Charles Engel. Charity is the oldest of 5. Charity lived happily with her family until the birth of her younger sister Lavender. Charity is 3 years older than Lavender. Charles was barely home working long hours in the coal mines. Dalilah was always home trying to keep the family together. Charity loved being with her father in the meadow collecting flowers. She would pick weeds without knowing exactly what it was. When Charity was just about to start school, her younger brother, Peter, was born. The family barely had enough food to survive, yet Dalilah and Charles sacrificed their food to give to the children. Charity started school just like a normal person would. It wasn't anything like she had expected. She was afraid of being around people. She wasn't sure who to talk to, or if she could make friends with anyone.Codeword: Odair
Charity would spend most of her time at school sitting by herself. She would play by herself. She wouldn't worry about anything. A young boy walked over and introduced himself as Zander. Charity quietly introduced herself. They started sitting together, and playing together. Eventually they started spending time with each other outside of school. They became friends. When Charity was 7, her mother gave birth to a set of twins. Maggie, and Matthias. Dalilah died during childbirth. She lived long enough to name the twins, then passed away for some unknown reason. Food was scarce, yet Charles made sure his family was fed. Charity, knowing more about plants, started a small garden in the backyard. She would use that to help her family have food. Charity enjoyed going to school to get away from her family for a little bit, and spending time with Zander. He was the only person she trusted other than her family.
When Charity was 9 years old, her father became ill. He still tried as hard as he could to work in the mines so his family could eat. Doctors spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was wrong with him, but they could never find an answer. It eventually came to the point Charles wasn't able to work anymore. A family friend, Rosalee, tried to keep the family fed even though she didn't have much of her own. The garden Charity grew, only helped to a certain extent. The day after Charity turned 10, Charles died. Rosalee wasn't able to care for the family anymore leaving them to be taken to the community home.
Charity hated the community home. She was always treated like dirt. She still smiled though knowing everything would work out, at least she hoped. Charity started enjoying school more than ever. She started trying harder knowing a bad progress report would only end in punishment. She refused to talk to anyone. By refusing to talk, Charity ended up being punished. She was slapped across the face leaving her nose slightly broken, and a scar across her face from a ring. She watched her family go to new homes leaving her there alone. When Charity turned 12, Zander's family got her out of the community home. She now stays with them.
