Age: Eighteen
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 1
Appearance:
Emerald Shore looks much younger than she is at eighteen. Her lean body doesn’t give away how strong she actually is. Her legs are fast and capable of beating most in races. She’s used to sixteen hour days of training and is capable of matching most careers. Emmy’s body is often covered in bruises, because she gives her best every day and that gets her hurt often but she’s used to it. Winning would be forever and that makes any pain and blood worthwhile. It’s her last year and she’s sure that she’ll be the next victor for District One if she tries hard enough. Her skin is pale from training indoors and she’s not prepared for the elements. She tends to dress comfortably in loose fitting but capable outfits when training and at home but if at events she feels forced to dress up however uncomfortable she feels. Emerald loves only tiny amounts of makeup because it only exaggerates her features. If she’ll wear dresses, they are very dark and classically styled with jewelry given to her by her mother.Personality:
Naturally blonde, her hair is lightened by unnatural means but she’ll swear if asked that it’s natural. Emmy’s hair is wavy by nature and is difficult to maintain even though she only lets it grow right past her shoulders. Tangles and breakage are often occurrences but she tries to take care of her hair as well as she can. Her cheeks seem flat and too red for her pale skin. Her nose is a little too long for her face and seems to make her wide blue eyes look smaller. Her mouth is too wide for her face and too thin to be considered average. These mismatched features make her feel cartoonish and is only worsened when paired with makeup but she feels less like a girl if she doesn’t wear it. Emmy has light freckles that are hard to see unless you are looking for them.
Training for the Games has made her cold. Her father hasn’t just put her through physical training, but emotional training as well along with the rest of her siblings. Career girls are meant to look beautiful and carry themselves like a lady but trust no one. Her father didn’t try to just instill a fear of other tributes but of other people. She’s careful and stand-offish in training and will only make small-talk if she’s being spoken to. She’s not good with talking to people but she’s learned how to read people in their body language. Emerald has hoped to volunteer for the last six years and is sure that this year is the one. She’s quick to volunteer for community service because she’s been taught that District One citizens are meant to be tributes and a model for other districts to emulate.History:
Emerald is just as cold with her family and spends a majority of her free-time in strategic books because in the Shore household there is no time that can’t be spent doing something productive. Emmy doesn’t connect with her siblings and is hard to break through to. She’s not a very good read for most people. Emerald has always been her parents’ golden child and is held above her siblings. In all actuality, she doesn’t resent them for this. She knows that her parents want her to win the Hunger Games and that’s what she’s good at. She’s an athlete who has trained to perfect her game. She loves her parents from a distance, trusting them above everyone else but she feels like if she didn’t listen to their every command she would be thrown out and become nothing.
She’s very comfortable being a background player in crowds. Emmy knows she’s definitely smart having gotten among the highest marks in her compulsory education and even higher in her training. Emmy knows her limits and where she can’t go. Perhaps the only thing she doesn’t know about herself is her sexuality. Killing would not be difficult for her to do but maintaining personal relationships with people will never be easy for her. Her eidetic memory makes her uncomfortable because it’s the one thing she knows isn’t normal about herself. She’s overshadowed in conversations but overshadows people on the floor. She definitely sees herself as intimidating for other careers; she’s skinny but strong and just as smart. However, she is easily frustrated and can overthink things and she’s lost a few matches because of it. She’s used to being treated as inferior to men and has been desensitized to the idea that this behavior isn’t normal. No. Emmy has no idea that being belittled by her father after trying so hard to make him proud isn’t normal. Violence is only a game and a price to be paid, the lower Districts should be punished and good boys and girls volunteer to punish them. The losing of a life in the Hunger Games is an offering to the Capitol for their good, and she doesn’t see this as odd.
Emerald Shore was born to wealthy parents who knew from the moment they met that they shared the same ideas and principles that they would later raise a family with. These ideas were simple, it was a civic responsibility to enter the Hunger Games and after missing this goal themselves they knew their children would do what they couldn’t. Their children would not be born out of love but for the good of the District and Panem as a result. Bred as careers, the Shore children are required (aside from the obvious weaker children such as Phenakite and Niobium) to train every morning and evening. Three breaks are given every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner but during meals they are shown pro-Capitol tapes that were meant for a certain purpose most can guess but they would never be caught using that word. Their insistence that they could never be brainwashing their children and shaping their thinking patterns was born out of denial. That was exactly their goal and it was achieved in most of their children except for a select few that absorbed the information but didn’t use it for the intended purpose. Emerald was better and faster even though she was one of the first children.Codeword: Odair
Their method improved over the years of trial and error. Now they are sure that they are raising perfect children that should be the model of any career to follow. Emerald was born strong and was expected to be what she has become. Her mother and father would never dare say she was their favorite child outside of the bedroom but they knew it to be true. Her first words were not Hunger Games, career, or Panem if you thought that. No, she was still taught mother and father before training but they started early with that too. She had just started speaking in mangled sentences when they began forcing her to the table for the tapes. After a year or two, endurance exercises and training became a routine but she was eight when the real training of careers started.
Emerald didn’t try to understand her countless siblings and only had several she would call herself close with. It was another thing her parents had done to make them more capable in the Games, they couldn’t trust each other and weren’t supposed to trust anyone else. This was never an issue with Emmy because she’s been stand-offish forever. Still, they didn’t want them to not get on with people at all. Having a good social status has always been a thing her parents wanted and worked hard for. Annual parties were big and Emmy has always been instructed to limit training so they could all be free labor and servers for the parties. Emmy was always in charge of catering, party planning, and the staff or as the guests would call them, her siblings.
Her lesser education that included nonsense such as mathematics, literature, and sciences were easy for her but she was never encouraged to really care for any of it. She’s been training more frequently over the past several months because this is her last chance and she’s prepared to walk onto the reaping stage this year. Her siblings have seen less of her, as have her parents. Training from 5 AM to 8 PM has given her an excuse to skip out on the videos and her parents consider her a graduate of their training academy with the Hunger Games as the next stop for her. Should she miss it, she’s going to find herself kicked out.
