Male
District 1
Appearance
In Career terms, Viridian Harper is six foot three, a hundred and sixty-one pounds and boy you better look out for. However, if you're not one for training smack talk, the below with suffice.
Viridian Harper is an acquired taste. To give the boy some credit, he is tall with a full head of blonde hair (which can't be said for all the boys in District One). With his height, which is a little over six feet tall, gives Viridian a full view of the top of people's heads. Its a pity not as many can see his head, his hair is quite attractive. Blonde, like his sister's, but darker. There were many similarities he shared with his sister besides height and hair. They both had blue eyes, although yet again his are a warmer shade and smaller. Viridian felt at times that he was supposed to be an exact copy of his sister but some how got stuck in the machine and ended up with the little differences that when they add up make him look completely different.
The Career's body is equipped with lean muscle. He may not be as bulky as some other boys in the District but he's just as deadly, and faster. Viridian's long fingers fit perfectly around the hilts of the weapons in the training arsenal. Traveling back up to his face, the boy's nose is the same long, wide one his sister sports. It matches his long face and neck. One thing about Viridian is that on the rare occasion that he smiles it is rather handsome. Although, as a training Career, smiles are not easy to come by.
Viridian has no love of clothes, in fact he thinks them itchy and bothersome. Frequently when training he'll end up taking off half of them anyway- staying social acceptable of course. However, when it gets too cold to walk around shirtless all the time the Harper boy does have a favorite jacket that he's worn through winters since his first Reaping. It was actually a gift, meant to bring him luck in the Reapings and he's never parted from it. It's made of leather creased from age and use, but its warm and frankly it's a pretty badass jacket.
Personality
Raised to be a Career from a young age, there are certain values all children like Viridian grow to have. The main one for Harper is honor. He wants to please his father and sister and anyone else who may know his name. Holding the traditional Career goals, Viridian doesn't pretend that he's in anyway different from the rest of the kids in District One trying to prove themselves. It's been a hard road for Viridian seeing as he's body wasn't the perfect container for a Career mind. Being scrawny is something that takes a lot of elbow grease to fix and he's still not to weight with the others in his district. However, the one person he tries harder than anything else to surpass is Stark, his very own sister. Only a year older, Stark held more hostility than Viridian did- even in their younger years. When he watched her start up training he knew exactly what he wanted to do with the rest of his childhood- throw it away and become a full out Career.
Things don't always go as planned and, like being too thin, you can fix a gentle nature no matter how sharp the weapon you thrust into their hand. Even with all the hours Viridian has put in on training he doesn't hold the dangerous bite that Stark has to her combat. Her name is even better. Stark, such a sharp word and its meaning is hardly dull. What does Viridian mean, you ask? Green. It's a lousy shade of green. Why was she pleased with such a strong name and him cursed with "Viridian"? The boy had even thought about nicknaming himself something like "Viper" or "Venom" to make him more of a threat but they never caught on.Rather, Stark heckled him for it and he quickly went back to his birth name.
Not one for talking, Viridian isn't seen as the brightest bulb in Panem. He's by no means a genius but people take him for a lot dimmer than he really is. He does well with numbers and calculations but words trip him up and give the impression that he's flat out dumb. Viridian has been around his sister long enough to learn some good smack talk. If anyone tries to hustle him he can hold is own- and it happens more times than he'd like it to. Since Stark had to go and make a name for herself in the District after trying to volunteer when she was too young they made sure Viridian knew the social standings when he came of Reaping age. Perhaps a bit on the submissive side for a Career, Viridian is still competitive and ultimately set on becoming a tribute and winning the Games no matter what. Even if he has to fight his own sister to get there.
History
As it has been stated before, Viridian has one older sister named Stark who is little more than "unpleasant." His father was the one who pushed both Harper children to become Careers. Surprisingly, Keating Harper is not from District One originally, rather he hails from the lowly District Twelve where it is believed he left behind everything he loved. He was not a very happy man and their mother, who had the unfortunate name of Whimsy, wasn't the best company either. You could say that Viridian is almost alone in his family- especially after the split. After years of watching his parents grow further and further apart, they separated. His mother left leaving only their father to tend to them. Viridian may not have been particularly close to his mother but it still pained him to see her leave. She'd been crazy, yes, but she was the woman who cared for him and she was just... gone. The months following the separation were hell. They were not happy and it seemed like they never would be.
However life goes on and you have to adapt to the ever changing environment. Pouring his thoughts into training, Viridian occupied his brain with the Games- watching them, studying them. There was little else he could do. Talking to his sister was no good because she can be down right terrifying sometimes. Viridian knows what she did to those boys and it lingers in the back of his mind whenever he sees her. His father is not exactly a champion at conversing either. Viridian swears he man still has cold dust in his fingernails brought all the way from District Twelve.
One time, when Viridian was younger, eleven years old, he had been watching the Games on the Harper's television set. He studied the battles and strategies, and most of all the Career pack that was out hunting the other helpless tributes without any training. So prepared for the Games, the boy was even taking down notes. That was when his mother came in and held true to her name. "What are you doing?" she had yelped, looking from the TV to him and then to the notes in his lap. "Stop it right now!" Whimsy smacked the notepad from his hands and clicked the TV off, her back to her son who was too afraid to move. What had he done to induce such a frenzy? He thought his parents would be proud of him, already ahead of the Game before he was even eligible. "Go to bed," her voice had been as sharp as Stark's. Viridian had half of an objection out of his mouth before his mother had snapped at him again and he finally obeyed.
The Harper family is still so confusing to Viridian that he finds it easier to confine in himself. It's safer that way because you know how you will react as apposed to a heartbroken father, a paranoid mother and a homicidal sister.Odair
