River Destin, District 4

River is extremely tall for a girl and willowy, about 5'11" with a dancer's build. She lots of freckles from being out in the sun. Her hair is long, curly, and auburn, and falls to about her waist. She doesn't put much effort into taming it, so it usually looks fairly wild. Her eyes are larger than most peoples', chocolate brown, and a bit wide-set.

She has a heart shaped face. She is skinny, but not scrawny, with a lot of lean muscle. River has full, cupid-bow lips that seem to have an upward curve even when she isn't smiling, and a slight gap between her two front teeth (she couldn't afford the dental work to fix it). On the whole, she looks younger than she really is, except for the trio of scars running up her neck that add a bit more maturity (she got them in the accident that killed her mother). She has pretty hands, with pianist's fingers even though they are very calloused from working with rope and rough wood. She usually has dark circles under her eyes, as she doesn't sleep much. Even though River looks young and even innocent, she gives off a vibe of slight hostility and detachment that seems to keep most people from wanting to be around her.

River is very stubborn. She's loud, demanding, and sees things in a strict black-and-white fashion. It's her way or the highway. She is a very strong person with a lot of spirit and tenacity. She has a "redhead temper," and hates being told what to do more than anything.

She is also brutally honest and fiercely loyal. River doesn't trust many people, but once someone earns that trust, she will back them a hundred and ten percent. She really hates backstabbers and liars.

River's main weakness is grudge-holding. She doesn't forgive or forget. Once someone's on her "list," they're on it for life. River goes out of the way to make life difficult for her enemies. Her rationale is that they deserve whatever they get for being bad people. She sees herself as a vigilante, as she often steps up to protect weaker people from stronger antagonists.

She won't hesitate to scream at you. River has a very short fuse, and when she's mad she REALLY goes off. She'll often do rash, impulsive, and even dangerous things when she's angry, and she's been in her share of fights.

She hates Career tributes. Hates them. Absolutely loathes their guts. She can't stand their attitudes, which she perceives as arrogant and bullying. She knows if she ever gets chosen for the games, she will never, ever join the Career pack.

River is the only child of a fisherman of District 4 and his wife. Her mother drowned in the aftermath of a boating accident when she was seven. As a result, River is one of the few people in District 4 that is afraid of water. She is a good swimmer, but avoids being in the water unless it is absolutely necessary. She also feels very uneasy on boats.

Her father turned to alcohol to help ease his grief after her mother's death. Since he's usually too drunk to work anymore, River has taken his place on the District 4 workforce. She mainly fishes for larger animals, swordfish, shark, sometimes even whale. She's very handy with a harpoon.

River and her father live right on the beach in a somewhat broken-down house. Neither of them like being around people, so they live as far from the populated part of District 4 as they can. River has never been particularly close to her father, but she sees him as an overgrown child, to overcome by grief and spirits to care for himself. She feels like the only real "parent" in the family.


River is very intelligent, and is one of the top of her class at school. She works hard, hoping that someday she can make something more of herself than spearing fish off the side of a boat.
