what you seeTo put it simply, Eric Rhodes seems to emanate the image of one who is intelligent and who dedicates themselves to study and nothing else. With his shoulders pushed back, expressing his interest in having a good posture and not confidence, he fits with the tall and lanky idea that goes along with the cliché version of a person with above average brain activity. The very top of his head rests six feet above the ground and the rest of his one hundred and forty one pound body lies underneath, making contact with the ground. He, lucky enough, is that one kid in everybody's school that never does any sort of exercise and yet he manages to stay thin and in a fairly good physical shape. But Eric cares not for his appearance and tends to put no effort into looking his best if he isn't expected to.
Which is why his soft brown hair is often resting untidily on his rounded head. Cut shorter along the sides of his head with a tuft of thicker hair around his forehead, Eric's hair is often not all done up like many people in the Capitol. Which suits him perfectly fine. The hair along the front is often standing up, probably due to how often his hand is running through his hair or when he brushes it back with his arm while his hands are occupied. Seeming like an almost permanent cowlick, it manages to suit the shape of his face while remaining slightly awkward at the same time. His eyebrows are thick and bushy, taking on a boxed shape and resting right above his eye. They are often furrowed together in concentration as he goes about the various activities that schooling or his employment offers him. Dark brown stubble almost always remains on his face as he shaves in a way that ensures that.
As previously noted, his face rounded along the edges, coming to no noticeable point around the chin. It is quite long and narrow, however. A thin nose protrudes out from his face and a thin purple line exists along the top, solely due to the frequency of him wearing reading glasses or safety goggles. Thin lips are often pressed together, offering no glimpse at the emotions that he is feeling in that moment, allowing him to analyse and calculate without hinting towards anything. Straight and nearly perfectly rounded teeth line his mouth, all of them in a great condition thanks to the care they've received, both through the brushing that Eric puts them through himself and due to the appliances that have been in his mouth ever since he first hit puberty. A wire currently resides behind the top row of his teeth, holding them all in place in order to keep them looking the way they do. It causes no impediment on his speech.
Bright green orbs, ones that are actually quite stunning, peer out through his glasses, a rather small pupil resting in the centre. The complexity of the patterns within the iris adds to the beauty of his eyes, seeming to represent layers and layers of colour. In his opinion, his eyes are the only attractive part of his appearance and he has no problem admitting that. While he doesn't care about the way he looks in general, it does bother him when anything takes away from how his eyes look. He'll even wear certain clothes just to bring out the brilliant colour. And really, he has no explanation as to why he does that. He does have bags and bruises that surround the eyes however. It's something that unfortunately existed only because of his dedication to schooling and to succeeding in life. It's not rare for him to go without sleep, thus leading to the bruising.
His skin is naturally coloured with a slight tan, one that never improves as he is rarely out and about during the summer months when the sunburns are most common. It's lighter around the areas where the skin is the most soft, even though his skin is fairly soft everywhere. Even where body hair is located, it feels as soft as a baby's. His shoulders are fairly broad and as noted before, pushed back to perfect his posture. Slouching them forward is something he never enjoyed doing, even though most people have so much stress that it's as if the weight of it is literally pushing them down. Nope. Eric likes to stand tall because he feels like he should maintain that at the very least. A flat chest and stomach connects his upper body to the lower portion, with only slight muscular definition along the way.
Thin arms extend out the sides, ending in hands with long, precise fingers and rough nails due to biting them to relieve stress (he has been attempting to lose this habit by biting on the ends of his pens instead). They have a cold feeling to them, something that seems to be natural with those in the medical field. Legs root him to the ground, both of which have the second most muscular definition in his whole body, the first being his back. Long feet extend out from there, nearly all of the base touching the ground because of being so flat. They are almost always covered with socks and shoes, which are usually either simple runners or - since graduating university - formal shoes that go with the classy outfits he tends to wear.
His casual wardrobe is quite simple, at least compared to most of the people found in the Capitol. Simple grey and blue denim jeans hang in his closet, one simple, black, leather belt holding each of them up nicely. If he wishes to dress formally, several slacks of different colour can be found. From beige, to grey, to black and to blue, they all have a matching jacket or blazer and a tie that fits nicely too. His vests are all neatly placed on a hanger, placed next to the dress shirts of several shades of black and grey. Casual shirts consist of flannel and plaid button ups, sweater vests and thin v-neck shirts. In the colder months, a thin black (masculine) cardigan keeps him warmer, until the snow falls and he needs to add on the grey pea coat. Gloves and a scarf keep the bare skin of his hands and neck warm as well while earmuffs cover his ears.
what you areA room exists inside a rather large mansion, tucked away in the farthest corner. To have an idea of exactly who the young man is, one simply needs to glimpse into said room. The immaculately tidied room belongs to one who is constantly aware of his surroundings and of one who dislikes even the slightest bit of grime. Not a single object is out of place, all of it sitting somewhere specific and important and waiting to be used. It's all ordered in a way that only a genius could have done, which would not surprise anybody who knew Mr. Rhodes for even a brief moment. He is, in the simplest way of putting it, a child prodigy. The manner in which his brain functions supersedes the majority of the population with ease, and even amazes him at times.
Knowledge comes easily to the young man. Ever since the younger days of school, he has had a proficiency with grasping topics that were discussed in class. With a simple lesson, he was capable of understanding the subject far better than the other students within his class. However, with great knowledge comes great setbacks, the main one being his complete lack of a childhood social life. With his nose constantly in a book, he had no time to make friends that would last or ones that would actually care. In fact, most people are just people he does favours for and then, if need be, calls upon them for help too. He isn't a big fan of the personal connections as it usually means that nothing is based on logic and solely based on passion. He prefers to have everything right or wrong without any grey areas. With friendships and relationships of any kind, there is always greyness.
Despite not enjoying friendship and the complexity of all sorts of relationships, he really does enjoy helping people. Even despite having had the constant workload prior to graduating, he always attempted to contribute to the community by volunteering for as many things as he possibly could. Even if it was a dirty job or one that wouldn't offer him very much in terms of payment (even though he almost never accepted payment seeing as how he had plenty of money if need be. benefits of being wealthy), he would still complete it with a smile on his face. Doing this enough times caused his name to get around the grapevine and with his qualifications, he soon had plenty of people wishing to employ him or at least seek his knowledge. The fact that his name was well known now never really bothered him. The popularity certainly did. You don't really find intelligent people that strive to be well known and Eric wasn't any different. But he does enjoy being wanted, as things in his past have left him striving for that at the very least.
His whole schooling has been based around one thing, in general. Saving lives has always been something he's been interested in ever since he discovered that he was rather good when it came to medicine. After nursing a little bird back to health (how cliche is that?), he soon found himself loving the feeling of knowing that he had helped make that life just a bit better than it had been before. And so that's what he intended on doing. Saving human lives is definitely a goal of his but due to his love of animals, he also hopes to do that too. Animals, unlike humans, never needed explanations for things. They just accepted what came at them and then adjusted to it through the use of their primal instinct. Humans complicated things much too much, something Eric never really enjoyed. And so, given the choice between spending the day surrounded by humans or being able to spend the day with some sort of animal, he'd certainly choose the latter.
Wishing to pursue the medical career has certainly come along with the idea of perfection in Eric's head. He's a perfectionist at heart, sometimes making that seem like an understatement. He won't stop until everything is completed the way it should be and not just completed in general. He wants to be able to look back at the things he's done and be proud instead of feeling as if he could have done better in some area. His meticulous work ethic often leaves him with no extra time in the day since he spends so much of it perfecting things. However, that's why he did so well in school and why he's easily the number one choice for many jobs. He does it right because he can and because he wants to. And he is disappointed when he sees people do otherwise.
Due to being so involved in work and his future, he often finds himself being rather lonely. Not many people pay much interest in how he actually feels. Most would be surprised he even feels in the first place. But deep down, he's constantly picking himself apart since he lacks in so many areas due to being so strong in a few. His self-confidence is extremely low and although he tries to compensate by acting like he has a good hold on himself, he really doesn't. Most people don't get to see that since, as said previously, they don't often care. Only one person ever really did, leaving him more empty than before. That lead to the self-destructive side to come out. It's as if he does whatever he can to lead to him falling, just to suffer the way he believes he should. He's stubborn in that way, wanting it to be his way because he believes it's right.
Which leads to the final part of Eric Rhodes' brain. It's one that he, up until recently, never really used because there was nobody to use it with. And then he met Lethe Turner and she sparked the loving side of him. Eric is a very caring person for those that get close enough. If he cares, you probably mean the absolute world to him and he's willing to do anything and everything to show that. And if its not taken well, it usually leads to that self-destruction. He's a weak person that builds his walls up with knowledge and logic. Despite it providing a fairly good protection, the occasional entrance of a person leaves him as nothing but a complete mess. As hard as he tries to keep it together, he really isn't succeeding. All that is needed is that one person to come and put all the pieces back in their respective and proper place.
what you rememberAbsent throughout most of his childhood, Charlie Wilkis and Franklin Rhodes were never the normal couple you'd see on tv shows or walking down the Capitol streets. They never met during school or at work and there was no cute love story at first. Their relationship had begun when Franklin was to marry and since he came from a family of wealth, arrangements were obviously made. There was never a thought that crossed his mind that went against the plans of his parents. He agreed that he should have had the most suitable wife, not somebody he had grown close to. After all the family was very business-like, wishing to keep things as serious as they could. And so, they picked Charlie Wilkis. She was from a family that, although they certainly had money to their name, was in no way in competition with the Rhodes family business. This way there could be a bond between the two so as to avoid any disputes that may have risen.
Franklin hadn't had the slightest clue how things would end up when he first said his vows. It was a rather large wedding so as to keep up with the public image. They didn't love each other. They barely even liked one another. And yet they still eloped to follow their family's plans. But things changed a year and a half down the road. They soon found the normal feelings that came with a relationship sprouting. Despite it taking a while for the two of them to truly realize it, they were falling in love like a normal married couple should have been. And one passionate night, they conceived their first son and the heir to the Rhodes riches. Should he wish for it, at least. And Adrian Martin Rhodes, surprisingly, didn't.
In fact, he hated that he was born in a household where he never had to work for something. He was the kind of boy and eventually the kind of man that wanted to do things his way and to deserve what he received by giving it his all. Which is why he soon found himself fitting right in with the bullies at the schools. He was a cold and abusive child. Definitely one of those kids you thought had a few issues and needed to be locked in a padded room. And it remained that way until his teenage years. Once he finally graduated from school, he had a new outlook on life. Instead of being an overall dick, he managed to harness the anger and direct it towards performing a job that satiated his desires and dealt with his needs. Within a few years of making his way up the ladder, Adrian was one of the head Peacekeepers for District Five. And once he finally become stationed there permanently, he almost never spoke with the family. Which is why Eric, the centre of this story, never had the presence of his parents while growing up.
They had been hurt when Adrian moved away and declined any offers for money or help. After having put in so much and receiving nothing in return, they realized that maybe they shouldn't have tried so hard. Which was certainly bad news for their second and final child. Eric Rhodes was born into an empty home. He grew up with his parents being entirely absent, only caring that he did well in school. Which he certainly began doing immediately. Even in the preschool classes, he would show off his ability to understand topics so easily, thus allowing him to move up to higher levels of class. And when he would come home every day, he would find nobody present in his home except for the old butler that his parents had hired. In fact, he was his only friend while growing up. His name was Arthur Law, but Eric just called him Law for short. Their relationship had been much like what a father and son's should be. And so the absence of his parents soon meant nothing to Eric Rhodes.
He grew better and better at school-related tasks. He was soon above most of the people in the school at reading, mathematics and other basics of knowledge. The money required for advance teaching soon came spewing out, mainly due to Arthur recommending it to his parents. And life went on normally for the next while without any issues along the way. In fact, his life went on fairly normally for many years. He began working small jobs at the age of thirteen, doing whatever he could do for whoever asked. He enjoyed working for his connections, favours and any payment he may have asked for. In that way, he was similar to his brother. Unlike his brother though, he had a fairly normal and boring life for many years. While Adrian was protecting the people of District Five, Eric just lived each day doing his work and keeping quiet. And nothing was beyond normal. Until that one day.
They met during a drunken night. It was full of passion and the events of that evening were all Eric could think about for the longest time. Lethe Turner and their romantic night soon became the main purpose in Eric's life whether he liked it or not. For within the stomach of the victor was a little child. His child. Eden Turner-Rhodes and Lethe were the most important pars of his life and he tried to do everything he could to be more apart of their lives. He felt as if he had for once been given a chance at more than the simple logic he was so accustomed to. And maybe one person in his life would actually be there for him.
But they both had to leave to their proper District. And that left Eric all alone. For too long. Two years without seeing his daughter and the girl that meant so much to him. It was as if they completely forgot who he was and didn't care for him in any way. Eric Rhodes was alone, just like he had been his whole life. There were so many things he wished to say and yet he couldn't. And so his life would go on normally as it always had. Boring. Lonely. The life of Eric Rhodes had always been as such. And until something big happened, it would always remain that way.
