Appearance:

Hardie is very small, under five feet tall. Growing up underfed, she has no body muscle or fat, and can't store or put on any weight. Hardie has longer arms than average, sometimes giving her the impression of a monkey. She also has more legs than body, making her less agile while climbing, jumping, etc.

Her hair is redish-blonde, and is very straight and stubborn. She usually wears it in a loose bun on top of her head or down her back, with her bangs in her eyes. Her eyes are a piercing blue-grey with brown eyelashes. She is quite pale, with lots of freckles all over her body, which makes her sunburn very easily. Her face is slightly pointy, her nose slightly flat and wide. Her ears are oddly pointed, making her look like an elf. He lips are plump, and a little too pink.

Personality:

Hardie is very shy. It would probably take you several hours of talking to her to get her to open up. She talks in a high-ish voice, sounding like a child. But once she opens, you can ask her anything, and she will answer it. The only subject she avoids is Leonis, her brother, who she values above all else. She hates talking about him, because, she fears that if she tells someone too much, she might lose him like her mother. In the back of her mind, she knows this is foolish, but it is her inner-nightmare.

For ways out of a bad dream, or a bad day, Hardie sings. She sings old District songs, songs from the war, songs she makes up. She isn't very good at it, but it helps her keep carrying on. She also loves the colour of baby blue. She finds it comforting, and non-threatening. She owns a blanket of this colour, which she slept with as a child, which is why they colour is so comforting and safe.

Hardie is very mature and logical. When she comes across thing she doesn't understand, she metaphorically compares them to things she does understand. She is also very fierce, standing up for what's right, and unafraid to fight for what she loves.

Although willing to stand for things, Hardie won't usually go into a physical or verbal fight that isn't hers. She fears pain in every form, anything that will hurt. Physical pain she fears most, hating the feeling of burning more than anything else. Small amounts of emotional pain she deals with every day, but anything more and she may crumble, loosing her already dwindling sanity.

History:

Hardie's childhood was very rough. Her mother died when she was 4, giving birth to her brother, Leonis. Leonis survived but suffered as well. The reason that the district people believe the Roxen children are so mature, because, without a proper parent, they had to teach themselves things, like how to simply live.

Hardie and her brother spent their childhood looking for food, begging, and struggling with the looming starvation. They could only clean themselves in the rain. In the winter, they would melt snow to bath in. They got jobs the day they were old enough, spending most of the money on food or warmer, bigger cloths.

Their Father, Libo Roxen, became a drinker about a year after his wife's death. Failing to teach his children how to live life properly, he worked as a barn-worker, providing only enough for himself.

Living in the poorest part of District 10, Hardie learned to scavenge in the nearby pastures, eating the wildgrass along side the cattle. She lives in a single bedroom house on the edges of the main town. It has no running water, and next to no furniture. Her prized possessions are a very old, very rusty, red bicycle, which she uses to ride to from work and school, and a thin rope necklace with a piece of stone on it, which used to belong to her mother.

Hardie's Father is almost always dead drunk. Hardie fears he may die of alcohol poisoning. Hardie is the family's income maker, making only a little more than Leonis, who works in a barn.

She works part-time as a butchers assistant, making her skilled with a knife. She is also known around the district as being one of the fastest sprinters.
