Smiling, Lydie walked from her interview towards her room, quite pleased with herself for how well she did with her interview. She was really looking forward to finding out how many sponsors she would gain. After a few minutes of walking Lydie got back to her room. It was really a beautiful place. The walls were painted a sparkling silver color and the whole room was really a color scheme of brown, black, and silver. Lydie peeled off her skin tight dress, her smile fading as the familiar feeling of happiness and the thrill of doing something she genuinely liked started to fade away. How could she be smiling? Had she really already forgotten about why she was here? She had let the Capitol get inside her head. Angry at herself she vowed that it wouldn't- couldn't- let it happen again.
Feeling confused and angry at herself, Lydie ran to the bathroom and turned the shower on. Once the water was the correct temperature she stepped softly onto the tiled floor of the shower. The warm water slid in sheets down her body, down her back and face, rinsing off the feelings of tension and anger that had plagued her mind the entire day. She let the sound of the water fill her ears and she tried to clear her mind. She couldn't handle thinking about anything right then. She had never been more stressed in her life. Everything had always been so easy for her and now there was this...She was doubting if she could handle it. She slid a hand through her wet hair, trying to get all the tangles out. She inhaled the steam of the shower and tried to calm down.
Lydie stayed in the shower for a good thirty minutes and once she got out she instantly wanted to get back in. The cold air hit her body like a brick wall and she found herself desperately groping around for a towel. When she finally found one she wrapped it around her body, sighing as the cold receded. She toweled off her hair and body and proceeded to pad across with bathroom floor and into the main part of her room where she instantly headed to her closet. She hated how much clothes there were. At home she had had limited options so it had pretty easy to pull out an outfit and be happy with it. But here there were so many clothes that she had no idea where to start.
After what seemed like hours of searching she finally found some clothes. All she needed were some simple pajamas, but the only ones she could find where silk or uncomfortable looking, so she pulled out the silk ones and pulled them on. The were so soft that she could barely even tell they were there. It was really weird sensation.
The next ten minutes were spent brushing through her wet hair. It took longer than normal because her prep team and curled her hair so much that it had tangled horribly and was now very painful to yank through. But after she had finished getting the tangles out of it, it was no longer curly, just really wavy. Sighing, Lydie collapsed onto her bed. Everything here was so different from her home. Realizing she was hungry, she tried to think of something that she wanted to eat. At home she had always eaten a banana and honey sandwich she felt down. She smiled slightly and pushed a red button next to her bed. A metallic voice asked what she would like.
"A banana and honey sandwich please." A second later part of the wall opened up and a sandwich slid through. She jumped when it happened, not realizing at all that that was how food was delivered. She slowly took the plate the sandwich was on and said a quiet thank you. She took a small bite and, shocked, instantly spit it back out. It tasted nothing like bananas or honey! It didn't really taste bad, just not like what she had asked for. She lifted up the bread cautiously, as if something might jump out at her, and was surprised when she saw what looked like blue bananas. The honey was also a weird kind of red color. Lydie sighed. She hadn't wanted a Capitol version of the simple sandwich she had requested. Why did everything here have to be so different?
Suddenly angry, she threw the plate at the wall across from her. the expensive china shattered on impact and the sandwich dropped to the floor. Lydie smiled bitterly, happy to see something other than her break. Suddenly Lydie noticed something on the bedside table next to her. She slowly reached over and picked it up. It was picture of her younger sister, May. It had been her ninth birthday when that picture was taken. The picture showed a carefree little girl grinning at the camera and smugly showing off one of her presents, an expensive looking silver charm bracelet.
Lydie gave the little girl in the picture a small smile, tears starting to fill her eyes. She remembered that day. In fact, she had bought the birthday present that May had been showing off. It had taken a whole year of allowance money to get it, but seeing the look on May's face when she had given it to her had made it worth it. Lydie's smile started to waver and a tear slipped down her cheek. "Oh, May..." She whispered. "I'm sorry...I'm so sorry..." Lydie clutched the picture to her chest and let out a small sob, "I'm so sorry!" Lydie covered her eyes with her hand and started to really sob. Her throat was sore and tight and tears rained from her eyes. She didn't care about being strong anymore. She couldn't do it. She just couldn't do it anymore! Sobs escaped her throat and her body shuddered violently. She buried her face in her arms and screamed, "I'm sorry, May! I can't do it, I'm so sorry!" She collapsed on the bed, her body shaking. She was crying so hard that she couldn't even talk anymore.
She just wanted to give up.
