The 1,000th Hunger Games [wip]

The sun raises over Panem, filling the area that was once filled with darkness and shadows of the night with light, eventually piercing through the curtains of a house on the edge of the logging area in District 7. Not a sound came from inside the small bungalow. That was until a loud thump breaks the silence and a girl enters the bedroom from an en-suite, only wearing underwear as she spins from the door to the middle of the room, giggling like a school girl as she does and letting her hair flail around everywhere, messing it up more and more with the spiral she had launched herself into. A blonde mess fluttering everywhere until the girl out stretches her hands and grips the covering on her bedside table. Still spinning however and eventually chucking it. The almost towel like cover landing on the stripped bed. The blonde stops laughing but keeps spinning, before stopping herself by bursting into a back flip, landing just in front of the bed and raising her arms like a professional, then turning to face the thing she had unveiled. "Good morning mr Revvy, and how are you today my dear?" A royal tint to her voice and profound English accent makes itself heard from the girl.

She giggles lightly to herself and grips the handle of the chain saw, her other hand gripping the starter wire and yanking, listening to the chainsaw rev then restoring her position, bending forward to kiss the saw and smiling after "That's good revvy, and thank you for such a lovely compliment" Her tone doesn't die and she eventually starts spinning herself again, slowly making her way towards her drawer and stopping abruptly, hair covering her face and as she looks down and slides her one of the draws open. She knew what day it was, the 40th quarter quell, the 10th century quell, the 2nd Everdeen quell and the first millennium quell. So she had to put on something fancy. Even though she never though about the games as anything, considering the chances of getting reaped and she never watched them on T.V so ya know. However she knew somehow she was meant to get dressed up for it. She continues to rummage through the draw, clothes flying left and right and her eyes wide like a child on Christmas morning opening a present. Excited to see what she was going to wear for the, "big" occasion.

Evangeline Everwood, 14 years of age, 5 foot 1, blonde, pale, green eyes and skinny with plasters adorning her skin, had lived 8 years of her life by herself, being just 6 when her parents died. Which eventually lead her to become increasingly unstable. Her closest relation, a chainsaw that her father had previously owned was all she had to talk to, and she eventually developed an interesting relationship with it. Leading her to believe it to be her husband. Decorating it with various animals and hearts and even colouring the motor pink. Despite her cute appearance though she was not to be undermined in combat, she had learned herself to do various flips and maneuvers and could easily dodge an incoming punch, and her leg strength was above average for her age. Her chainsaw rarely left her side too, meaning she was rarely approached. Despite this during the games she always liked to show off to the various people with her stunts and antics, always making a scene of herself either before, during or after the tributes had been announced.

She eventually nearly empties the drawer by the time she had finished, sticking her hand out and catching a falling brown dress that dropped to her knees in height then lifting up her leg to force the drawer shut, ignoring the clothes she had thrown everywhere. Now she had a dress she spins around and poses with it in the mirror, holding it in front of her even though she knew it still fit, then spinning on her toes to show off to the chainsaw. Suddenly giggling and speaking, yet again in her more regal English tone "Why thank you mr Revvy" She let again bends down to kiss it, this time on the handle then she spins away again, a concentrated look on her face now as she near enough collides with the mirror. Causing her to stop, slowly slip on the dress, then does a hand stand, looking at herself in the mirror.

After staring at herself for near enough five minutes upside down, she bends her body back and stands back on her feet, giggling afterwards then opens her bedroom door, her hair still completely messed up and everywhere as she yells back at her chainsaw "I shall return in an hour Mr Revvy! Then, because of your loooovely complements, we can go CUT SOME PEOPLE!" Her voice takes a dramatic dip in tone but she quickly recovers and giggles again before leaving her room, slamming the door behind her uses the banister for her stairs to slide down the stairs, landing on her feet but taking several side steps to balance herself, eventually colliding with her main door and falling over in a flail. Her left arm smacks the floor and she rolls onto her back, giggling yet again. The thought of this being just another day engraved into her head causing her to be her usual, overpeppy self. No point being depressed if nothing was going to happen, plus, she had no family members so the odds of anyone she cared about being killed or reaped where very, very low.

She eventually rolls onto her front, doing a push up before jumping her legs under her body then pushing her body upwards. Balancing herself on her feet. She then bounces around in her crouched position, eventually facing the door then straightening her body and lifting her left hand to open the door, slowly and carefully but breaking out into a rapid swing and the door fierce-fully collides with the wall, the handle creating another dent and a loud thud to go along with it. Evangeline looks behind the door at the damage then lets out a loud "YAAY!" After realising the dent was thicker than the one she had caused last time she went out. She then makes a note to reward herself later and skips out the door, not caring that she was barefooted or that her door was pretty much wide open. No one lived around here and no one ever visited her, plus everyone would be at the reaping. So she had nothing to worry about, as well as the fact she knew Mr Revvy would slaughter anyone who walked in.

The last Everwood skips down the usual path towards town, her dress somewhat fluttering behind her as wind pushes against her body, forcing the hair that had found its way over her face to blow back to reunite with the rest of it, her feet being beaten by the path with the various stones but she ignores the pain. She was used to it, skipping to town barefoot. She eventually comes towards the usual crossroad and takes a left. Now skipping down a path that was covered by trees, light beating through the gaps in the overhanging leaves as she looks around to admire a little. However the girl suddenly stops and looks to her right, eyeing one of the more grown Redwoods in the area and smiling brightly. Curtsying to the tree and speaking, still in her regal accent "Hello Miss Red, how are you this fine day?"

Evangeline started mixing up people and trees from the age of nine, always thinking one was the other. The direct reason behind this is not known but ever since the age of 10 this seemed to be the case with her. Anyway, the girl stares at the tree for another 30 seconds, then spinning around in circles before stopping to where she is facing the tree again "Why thank you Miss Red, it is a nice dress isn't it?" Her imaginary conversation with the tree lasts about 5 minutes before she eventually waves and gives the farewell of "Well, I must go, I shall make sure to stop by on the way back, you take care now" Her seemingly regal accent never dying as she curtsies again and restarts her trip to the town, her feet starting the skip she had got herself into before her conversation and her head starts looking around everywhere, random giggles bursting from the girl every so often.

Evanna eventually finds herself entering the outer areas of the town, the path's over hanging trees beginning to sparse as she continues her skip and more and more houses come into view, this was it! Hopefully she wasn't too late to do her usual various somersaults, flips and cartwheels in front of all the people that where there. It always seemed to lighten the mood as well. The 14 year old eventually slows her skipping down to a walk, knowing she was now only a couple of blocks from the main square. Her eyes start to pass over the abandoned street. Nothing was she knew why but it was weirdly quiet. Until the boom of a microphone can be heard from the direction of the town square. Evangeline's face becoming down trodden as she takes that as a sign of her being late, and she quickly starts sprinting to make up for lost time.

Her eyes come across the larger than normal crowd as she turned the corner into the district square. The T.V camera's and so on with the large podium all set out and in position, with some cameras being elevated by large cranes. Seemingly gigantic bowls of paper sat on two stands next to the microphone stand. Behind that though, was the D7 escort. He was weird, even for Evanna, literal glittering skin shined against the sunlight and his... Oddly shaped green hair stood out against the wooden background of the podium. It was a change from last year to be honest, where he looked more like a Banana than a human. She looks around the area, everyone seemed tense. Rigid in their nervous and anxious feelings. So Evanna, being who she was decides to bomb it through the crowd. Almost expert agility allowing her to zip past the various adults, children and whoever that stood in the way. Eventually breaking into a random somersault to which the people who had noticed the commotion of people being nudged and occasionally pushed from where the 14 year old couldn't get around behind them deftly moved moved out the way. Evanna landing perfectly on her feet and in her position not too far from the front. Giggling at her own charades.

As usual the Panem anthem plays, and the girl pays hardly any attention to it. Mainly focused on her bare, dirty and pretty bloody feet. No one urged her to sing but she got the occasional glance from the many Peacekeepers that where positioned around the area. After which they'd whisper into their radio and more would look at her. Waiting for an excuse to grab her and beat her, until the Anthem stops and Evangeline immediately jerks up right, a never dying smile on her face as the escort does that speech he does, this one being drawn out due to the "special occasion" and how this should be "a day of celebration for the whole of Panem." The 14 year old rolls her eyes in response then giggles a little. Not deciding to lower the volume and almost everyone around her and several Peacekeepers shot their vision to face her.

"Now, with further ado, I shall name read the names of our 14 tributes. Ladies first?" The escort eventually says after his long winded speech, Evangeline now sitting down in the middle of the crowd she had placed her in and was playing with the dirt between the cobbles of the area. Showing yet again very little interest in the actual reaping, and eventually, the first name is boomed across the district square "EOWYN LIGHTSHIELD" Evanna blinks then bounces herself up, who was that? She starts jumping up and down from her spot to get a better view of the area and eventually, between her vision being cut off by other people she sees a young girl, no older than 13 and probably no younger than 10 walk on to the stage, fear screaming from her facial expression and she was quite clearly shivering. The escort guides her to a spot next to the girls name bowl, and then quickly pulls out another. Trying to make it dramatic by pretending he was feeling the small strips and knowing who was on them.

"HELENA WHITESTRIPE" This causes Evangeline to stop bouncing and look away from the podium, holding in a growing urge to laugh at the surname of the girl as she walks up the stairs on the right side. What sort of name was Whitestripe? The 14 year old however quickly loses interest again and starts spinning in circles. Attracting attention to herself again as she continues with a concentrated face. She wanted to get home really, Mr Revvy didn't like being alone and she wanted to have some fun with him. She knew she wasn't going to get reaped anyway so what was the point even coming. This thought drives the girl to stop and she brings her palm to smack her forehead. Why didn't she just stay at home? No one was going to know she was there and the chances of her getting reaped where very low.

"AMANDA READ" The next name that echoed around the square. All of a sudden there was a large scream coming from the right. A woman wrapping her arms around her child protectively, who couldn't have been older than 7 was only a few columns of people down from Evanna. Who was now trying to look between the gaps of the rows of people who where all looking her way. After about 10 seconds of screaming and Evangeline diverting her attention to stare at the cameras that where all focused on the woman there was a semi broken and tearful "I VOLUNTEER!" The lines cause the 14 year old to spin on her heels to look back. The now crying child being gently pushed behind the woman... By the woman and she walks up instead. After watching the woman step up to the stage Evanna turns back to the cameras, observing one sweeping the area and waving at it, giggling. Yet again drawing a lot of attention to herself.

The escort composes himself again, then tries to laugh it off "Well, that was something, shall we move on?" These comment leads to the woman still crying on the stage glaring viciously at the escort. That was until the next name was yelled "SELENA WELLS" Then, almost instantly after the name call was finished "I VOLUNTEER" Could be heard, this time from quite a distance left from Evanna, who was still not really caring. The older woman, probably above the age of 50 walks onto the stage, a determined look into her eye as she winks kindly at the person she volunteered for. Them knowing each other for as long as Selena had lived. Evanna however is still focused somewhere else. Now on her arm as she tries to lick her elbow to pass the time.

After the escort guides the elderly one to her position he returns to the bowl, dipping his hand in and quickly pulling one out, again trying to be dramatic. Unfolding the paper he looks at it, chucks it behind him the says the name "ELIZABETH SHARD" Evanna blinks, and she copies the exact same action she did with the first tribute, lowering her arm then starting to jump to look over the crowd. Quickly catching a glance of a small girl being lead by a Peacekeeper up the stage and her body freezes, almost falling over as her feet reconnect to the earth. Her eyes wide and her face somewhat shocked. That was a bit, young. The girl giggles it off and starts her spinning again. Needing to take her mind off it before it got to her and also needing to find someway to pass the time. She really wanted to go home now.

"PROTECTION TIMBEAR" Was the next name to be called, and Evangeline this time couldn't hold in her laughter, falling down mid spin and breaking into quite a loud laugh. Everyone that was around her gave her dirty looks and this time all the camera's that where suspended in the sky hovered over her. She knew she was going to get a lot of hate for this when she was out in the town but the name was just too funny not to laugh at. The 21 year old however was giving the dirtiest glare she could muster from the podium she had just stood herself upon. In her head she was being laughed at for being reaped. Evangeline eventually calms down, the whole district, the escort, and all the camera's where now looking at her as she stands up, looks around and laughs, before yelling in an attempted ghetto accent "WADUP PLAYAS? Y'all can go back to your reaping now duags" Slowly everyone started looking back to the podium, a couple of camera's stayed on her though to catch any more of what she had to offer.

"NOW FOR THE LAST FEMALE!" Evanna is now back to trying to lick her elbow, knowing she was almost halfway through the reaping and still needed something to pass the rest of the time she was going to be here for. Though she completely blanks over the last name, having completely lost interest "EVANGELINE EVERWOOD!" The girl continues to try and lick her elbow. Not showing any interest what-so-ever as the Peacekeepers start walking around and the district begins to search itself for the name. The escort calls again "EVANGELINE, EVERWOOD" Then after another 10 seconds of attempted elbow licking. Evangeline freezes. Clicking on to the name that was called. Her arm slowly lowers and restores its old position as she jerks her body backwards a little. People noticing the break of position and the girl looks up at the stage. Her peppiness and lack of attention, both gone.

She continues to stand there, staring up at the podium until she finds herself being pulled by her own body into one of the divides between the groups of people. Slowly making her way around all the people that stood in the way of her and the gap. Her mind blank and her emotions drained. Eventually, she reaches the gap and slowly, barely shuffling even, makes her way up to where the other tributes where, the one she had laughed at giving one of the most evil smirk she could give upon noticing the girl approach. To which Evanna just gives a blank glance back. The Peacekeepers that started looking around notice her slowly and begin to whisper into their radios again, retreating back to their positions and eventually watching from afar. Every eye was on her again, only this time she was in plain view of everyone.

She slowly walks up the stairs on the stage and stands as far as away from the person she had laughed at as possible. Not wanting to start any arguments. For the first time in her life though she had come to her senses, the world around her collapsing into what it really was. her head goes blank, now standing next to the escort as she seems to sway with the wind, everything seemed blank to her now, dull, deathly, the way the world had felt when her parents died. She felt nothing however, she was just a shell now. Empty on the inside. The place she had tried so desperately to fill up with happiness and peppiness gone within a heart beat. She slowly over looks the area, scanning her spot on where she used to stand. Now what was going to happen?

The escort was now reading off the boys names but her mind pays no mind to them, she couldn't focus on anything but couldn't seem to stop herself being latched to the small things that she commonly looked over. Like the massive TV screen behind her and the cameras that would never really be seen in this district aside from this day every year, and how every one here seemed to be wearing some what make do clothing, albeit with the occasional decent attire but not everyone was as lucky as those people. D7 Wasn't the poorest no, but it certainly wasn't the richest. More and more boys eventually walked on to the stage, ending with one that looked in the region of 7-10 who stood beside what looked to be his brother. The only thing Evangeline could think of now however was not who she was going to pick to kill, but how she was going to get through this. She would let the others decide the killing thing.
