Are you, are you, coming to the tree
Where they strung up a man they say murdered three
Are you, are you, coming to the tree
Where they strung up a man they say murdered three
Marianne was tired of living in District 10. They were poor and upset. The female tribute from their district was dead, but the male was still alive. Marianne had heard the fence as she went on a walk. Completely silent, no buzz. And before she could help herself, she had slipped under the fence and bolted into the forest. She wanted to run away forever. Never have to be in the games. But then she remembered hearing tales of the new detention center built outside District 2, and how there was an interrogation center where they took criminals and beat them whilst their loved ones watched. Marianne didn't want to be beaten, but she wouldn't mind as long as her family weren't watching, horror on their faces. Marianne took her bow and arrows from its secure spot inside a hollow tree, and she began to silently tread through the woods.
Snap! And she cursed. As she lifted her foot, she saw a snapped tree root where she had just stood. She looked around quickly, then the birds stopped singing. Marianne froze. The hovercraft! It's coming! Marianne saw a hollow tree and just about managed to clamber in as the hovercraft appeared over the sky. Finally it disappeared, and Marianne got safely out of the tree and saw a bird. She knew how easy it would be to shoot the bird. A pull of the string, a release, and then the bird would be dead and she'd feed her family. But she let her hand remain in its position, pulling back the string, hesitating slightly. Then she released the arrow and it lodged into the bird's eye. She smiled and she picked up the bird. It would make a good meal for her and her family. But it wasn't enough to last them until next week, which was what Marianne wanted to do.
So she found a patch of berries nearby, and began to pick them one by one, shoving them into her rucksack.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger it would be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree
No stranger it would be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree
