Goodbye Capitol (cont)

I finally make it home after a few miles of running. Even though I'm in incredible shape, I am still quite out of breath. My mother, with her green eye liner and matching hair, looks at me with concern. "Ly sweetie, what's the matter?" she asks rubbing my back. This gesture has worked to calm me down ever since I was a child and threatened to kill her in the arena if I didn't get my cookies.

"I'll wait until Dad's here," I respond, taking deep breaths.

But I finally get to smile.

Dad walks in with his usual tinted blue skin and silver hair. "You called son?"

"Yes. Mom, Dad, please sit down."

They both choose to sit on our dark blue love seat, a personal favorite of my mothers. They look up at me with their concerned, heavily made up eyes.

"Mom, Dad, I've just been promoted to Traveling District Spy. Now I'm not sure exactly what that will entail for me, but I do know that I will be traveling throughout the districts investigating possible crimes. I'm leaving the Capitol and I get to see the world!

Dad looks excited for me, but I can tell Mom is trying to hide her sadness. I kneel down beside her. "Mom, I'll miss you too, but this is my dream. I want to put the law to work, make these traitors pay, you know how long I've wanted to get out of here."

"I know buttercup," she responds. she only calls me that when she's about to say goodbye. "Well," she says getting up and straitening her skirt. "Do you want me to pack a bag for you? Or a few snacks?"

I chuckle. "Mom, I'm not leaving just yet. I have a week."

"Oh. Well, alrighty then."

I know that she's trying to be strong. I've been so strong and rough all of my life, I assume she thinks I want her to be that as well. I don't care, she's my mom, I love her. But I commend her for trying to avoid crying for me. I know how much she hates goodbyes.

But I'm heading off to see the world.
