Anthem - Day 3

The longer the day drags, the more the atmosphere seems to weigh on you. It starts in your lungs as a warm pressure that you barely notice; from there it seeps through the rest of you, coating every inch of skin in lethargy (and sweat). Shelter, where it's available, brings some relief from the heat but none from the humidity. Eventually you give up on trying to get comfortable and hang your hope on an early nightfall—but even that only brings the temperature down a little.

You're yanked out of wallowing in your discomfort by the sweeping crescendo and sudden light of the nation's anthem and seal. You scramble to attention in time to catch the face of the dead:

This has been the latest in a series of achingly long days, but you're not so tired as to forget your arithmetic; with nine down, there are fifteen tributes remaining. If you plan to go home, fourteen more must die.

As the anthem ends, the final portrait fades, once more leaving the sky lifeless.
