The librarians and admins have been discussing several things regarding the sharing of FCs over the last week. We've realized we're slowly working ourselves into a dangerous knot with FC sharing, especially with how common it has become. So, here are some clarifications of the rules. I will also post this in the FC thread and possibly also as a reply to our official rules.
1. You may now only share FCs among multiples (e.g. twins, triplets, etc.)
2. The original owner of the FC can retract the sharing of FCs at any time. This has always been our policy but here it is, spelled out. If you would like to designate your claim officially, please reply to the FC thread with the character's name. A librarian will then put a * next to your name in the claim.
3. If people share FCs and one of the characters dies, they cannot recycle the FC elsewhere, and the other claimers retain their rights.
For the third rule, here is an example. Let's say that I agree to share Mace's FC, Jonathan Rhys Meyers (JRM) with Lulu and Aya. Lulu's JRM is reaped as a tribute and dies. Aya and I still can use JRM in D10 but Lulu may not recreate him elsewhere. Most importantly, even if my version of Mace/JRM dies, I would lose my rights to recreate him elsewhere in favor of Lulu and Aya's claims. The * priority would be extinct in that scenario, e.g. if the original owner's character dies, no one has exclusive rights to the FC and cannot de-share it among the remaining sharers.
I realize this is a bit complicated so post your questions here ^^
Also, just so it's on your radar (because it's on ours), we are keeping an eye on the sibling snatchers plot (and other equivalents) to make sure they don't get completely out of control. Please, please be reasonable when approaching people about sharing FCs, and also consider the above consequences before you agree to share an FC.
Thank you! <3
