Some people say it's hard being the best at anything. Xander's outlook was it's far to easy to be the best at everything. He wasn't being arrogant he just was. He was the strongest, the tallest, and dare he say the smartest. For some reason these were the thought running through his mind as he walked to the training facility. Perhaps it was because of the arguement he had with one of his siblings or maybe it was his own desire to prove he was the greatest, either way he was in a rare mood. He leaned up against a building resting on the corner and slammed his fist into the wall knocking off a large chunk, and bloodying his knuckles. He briefly grimaced in pain and continued to walk down the street.

He was the best at everything...wasn't he? Shaking his head to clear such thoughts he saw the training facility coming into view. Another day of training, another day to grind more pitiful kids into dust. He knew he would be perfect for the Hunger Games, he was the most skilled fighter this side of District 1, even Panem. Stopping briefly to admire his reflection, at the window of one of the lone houses that lined this street, he flexed his muscles and grinned. Yes, he was the best, no doubt about it.

Smashing through the front doors of the facility the temperature changed immediately. It was warm for an autumn day, but inside the facility it was cool, at least in the portion he was standing in. Chances were he would find the temperature less than accomodating in the areas where the others were training. He threw the backpack he was carrying into the corner without a second thought and went for the longsword hanging on the rack. He stepped into one of the few open training areas and began to experamentally swing the sword around. Just some simple warm ups.

Once he felt prepared he began to perform some intricate, more artistic techniques. The sword was a blur despite it's size and weight. Yes, this was why he was the best at everything, and no one could argue that fact.

The empty street is a shameful place. Silhouettes of foreign shadows lurk in the allies. Corners are full of questions. Most of which the answer can only be found within yourself.

[/color] The streets are empty anyways. Only the lonely wander the streets this early, but Renn couldn't sleep. The pounding of the rain on the roof in the dead of night was relaxing to others, but to her, it was dreadful. All night the pounding roared like a lion and now fog hung over the grass. Renn pondered at the substance that you could see, but not touch. Not touch. It was like her mother's favorite china. Renn still clearly remembered the clink of the expensive glasses. Only so delicately did they clink, and only on special occasions. She had asked for her own china on her birthday before the year she left. The year before she left. She hadn't left because she didn't like it. In fact, Renn loved her life back then. Almost three years ago. She left in the bloom of spring, when the cherry blossom tree bloomed just outside her window. That was the last thing Renn remembers of her home now. The Cherry Blossom Tree.

It seemed like a long stroll down memory lane, as every thought that entered Renn's mind turned into some sort of memory. But the pavement in front of her reminded her drowsy mind where she was going. Off to the left was a pond. The first time Renn had come here, she had swam in the pond. Her and Jameson and little Maria had splashed and played. Renn realized she had memories here too. She crouched down next to the water and gazed at the reflection. I am not pretty, she thought, but she could not have been more wrong. Renn Perrysworth was beautiful. Her hair lay in the dirty blonde braid it always did during training. Something about the way she intertwined the strands of her contradictory hair was unique. She had tried to show Maria once, but she was too accostumed to doing it on herself, and she did it so quickly, that little Maria couldn't keep up. "You'll learn, little Maria," she spoke to the water at the thought of the memory. Why were all of her memories flooding back to her all of the sudden? It was a usual morning. She would wander down the street until the training center came into her sight. And when she would step through the front door, the real Renn, the one almost no one knew about, would disappear and be replaced with raging Renn. She was a fierce trainee. Almost the fiercest there was, and a fire, burning with anticipation flamed inside her tightened muscles. She would train like there was no tomorrow, because before long, tomorrow would be at stake. Renn could just feel it. She brushed her fingers through the water, blurring the perfect reflection of herself. But she was the symbol of perfection.

Her loose tee shirt blew ever so slightly in the gentle morning breeze. The cool of the water on her fingers had awakened her, and now they shook with cold as the breeze tumbled by them. Over her back was a drawstring pack, one she had brought with her when she came here. It swished to the rhythm of her feet. One.. Two. Renn entertained herself with keeping the same rhythm. Her father had told her once that rhythm was important in a fight, and she had proven him true. Where's the sign that says "Memory Lane"?[/i] Maybe she had already passed it, because standing in front of her was the training center. She wiped the drowsy look from her face and straightened her posture. She was strong, but always felt the need to show it.

Once she walked through the doors, shivers were sent up and down her spine. It was cool in there, as it always had been, but today, with the memories of her past life thumping up and down in her mind, it seemed even colder. Maybe Memory Lane was a warm place after all. She threw her bag to the side. All it had inside was a few water bottles and a sketch pad. Renn had planned on drawing some after training. Eying her competitors, one caught her attention. He was swinging around a sword in such an artistic way that it looked like a paint brush on a canvas. Renn chuckled at his attempts to look fierce. She couldn't help herself. Strutting across the room in such an authoritative way, she made her way to the swords hanging on the wall. After watching the guy paint some more, she picked a sword identical to his. She loved to show her strength, and now was her time.

"Hey, pretty boy? Let's paint." She said challengingly to the guy. Swinging her sword around her head in a dominant way, she circled him like a lioness, closing in on her prey.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/size][/justify]

Xander's sword whistled and sang as it arced it through the air. This was his comfort zone, this was an area where he was the undisputed champion. He would stop briefly to look with scorn at the others, and how feeble they were. Everytime he would look at them though he had that same thought haunting him, was he the best, he felt like he was, but he had to wonder. Maybe it was that the competition wasn't good enough, either way he was feelling doubt for some reason. It must just be one of those days for him, this wouldn't be the first one like it. He just had to pound someone into the ground to bolster his ego a bit. Casting a cursory eye around the facility for an opponent he was shocked to here a voice behind him.

"Hey pretty boy? Let's paint."

Okay, that couldn't be anyone talking to him, no one would dare to talk to him that way. He continued to scan the facility, but that feeling you get when someone stares at your back was beginning to irritate him. He turned around and glared at this newcomer who would dare to acknowledge him in this way. It was a girl, of course it was a girl, and she hefted a sword of equal size to his own with ease. He secretely gave her props for even being able to do that, most of the kids he knew could wield it but not with any amount of ease. He walked closer to her and tried to get a read on her. Her hair was dirty blonde and lay across her shoulder in a braid, a cute style he supposed, he was no fashion expert though. She wore a loose fitting
t-shirt, the exact opposite of himself. She was attractive for a Career, usually they were pretty brutish, but she seemed strong, poised, and dare he say it...beautiful.

He felt like a some sort of animal next to her. His dark brown hair was long and spiked up in the front, but extremely unkempt. He had a really tight training shirt on that bulged in several areas because his muscles were ripping through the fabric, and standard training pants on. His facial features were nothing to write home about his eyes were the only shocking feature he had a startling bronze color that seemed to glow gold when the light hit them. He gave her a disdainful look and addressed her.

"Okay sweetness, I know you're not talking to me. No one has the nerve to talk to me that way, especially a girl. I think I'm out of your league in a fight so why don't you find another girl to fight, maybe one more your size. I wouldn't want to dash your hopes of getting into the Games by breaking something permanently."

As if to prove his point he spun the sword around him blurringly fast and threw it behind his back catching it and pointing it at her inches from her forehead. He grinned maliciously at her, daring her to make the next move.

The look on Renn's opponent's face was delicious. She loved to surprise people. His gaze lingered on her though, and she wished she could brush it away, but all she could do was return it. The boy's-dare she call him that- hair was spiked up in the front and it reminded her of Jameson. He had tried that once, with little success. She still told him it looked nice when he'd asked her. The boy in front of her had spiked it in a way that bewildered Renn, but she didn't focus on that as much as the eyes that scanned her from head to toe. They gleamed in a reflective light coming from the window and shined in a bronze color. Almost metallic they looked. Slowly, her eyes moved down to his shirt, which was ridiculously tight and his rippling muscles were bulging out of it.

[/color] Should I have chosen someone without bulging muscles?[/i] But she shoved that thought from her mind. It would only make her more triumphant when she won.

"Okay sweetness, I know you're not talking to me. No one has the nerve to talk to me that way, especially a girl."Sexist Pig.[/i]"I think I'm out of your league in a fight so why don't you find another girl to fight, maybe one more your size."Too bad she had already fought every girl in this gym. "I wouldn't want to dash your hopes of getting into the Games by breaking something permanently." Because that really scared Renn. He swung his sword around himself in a flurry of movement before the tip was placed just inches from Renn's forehead. This surprised her, but the first and foremost thing she did when she fought was not let the enemy know how you feel. She let her unamused expression linger on her face.

Shoving the sword from her face with her forearm, she carefully calculated where to get so that she could pin him. Dislodging the weapon from the surprised boy, she spun him around and jabbed her knee into the place where his thigh and calf met. She learned this trick years ago, and it proved to work on even the most worthy opponents. This sent him tumbled onto the ground and as he flipped around to get up, she pinned him down, her knees on his wrists. She let her torso relax and her weight, along with the pinning of his arms and legs kept the boy down. Pulling his arms up above his head, she grabbed them with one hand and tucked a stray hair behind her ear with the other.

"Oh yeah. You were a real challenge," she joked. It had been hard to move so fast that an obviously experienced fighter wouldn't catch up. She let out a sly chuckle and loosened the grip on his hands, but didn't let him get up.

It was one thing for someone to beat Xander, not like it had happened before, but another altogether for someone to beat him taht quickly or that easily. He supposed he could blame the fact that he was unprepared, but he knew there was more to it. She had skill he could tell from the fast execution of her technique and moves. He would never admit that she had skill to her face, but he would allow himself, for the first time, to be wary of someone. If she had the skill to knock even him off of his feet than she would definitely be able to beat anyone else. A replay passed through his mind of exactly what happened over the last minute. He addressed the girl, he mocked the girl, than the girl knocked the wind out of him, and perhaps bruised his leg. He couldn't figure it out, no one was that good, only he was supposed to be that good. It was just like the thoughts he had earlier in the day, was he really the best, or could there possibly be someone better. No, he decided, he was the best, he was just surprised is all. Although, it was a rather stinging comment she left him with. Now he knew how all of his opponents felt.

"Okay, so you won this round sweetness, doesn't mean you could win a best out of three. You only surprised me is all, and I won't let that happen again."

He clenched his jaw, and clenched the muscles in his wrist allowing some breathing room, and quickly grabbed her wrists. Than pushing himself up with his elbows he lifted her off the ground.

"I don't plan on letting a girl go around saying they beat me. Infact, I wouldn't let anyone go around saying they beat me, be it boy or girl. So, will you accept my challenge?"

He placed her on the ground and stepped away from her, and cast another glance at her. Contrary to first look she was also muscular, no where near like him, but she appeared to be more fit than the rest of the girls around here. In his mind he made sure to respect her more as an opponent, although it would never be to her face. He did have an image to uphold, to himself as well as the other careers in the district. He grabbed his sword again and walked to stand opposite her just out of her reach. This time though, he was ready and alert, and he would not be taken out so easily.

Renn kept her breath calm, but her lungs were gasping for air. She had also learned that trick from when she was younger. The shame on the boy's face was hilarious. Renn couldn't laugh though, that's a sign of weakness. Instead, she gazed into his bronze eyes again. They were filled with anger and shame. "Okay, so you won this round sweetness, doesn't mean you could win a best out of three. You only surprised me is all, and I won't let that happen again." He explained. Renn chuckled. She, too was thrown off guard when his wrists clenched. Then he was holding her own wrists and his torso began to rise, taking Renn with it. She was surprised at his strength to hold two bodies off the ground without hardly trying. His torso stopped rising and he looked her straight in the eye. "I don't plan on letting a girl go around saying they beat me. In fact, I wouldn't let anyone go around saying they beat me, be it boy or girl. So, will you accept my challenge?" He swung his hips over so that their bodies did a complete flip and she was on the ground, his hands wrapped tightly around her wrists.

He stepped away from her, throwing another glare barreling towards her. She knew that glare. She knew what was coming next. When Renn first began fighting, she learned to watch her opponent with careful and critical eyes. This gave her the advantage of knowing their weaknesses and strengths, and this helped her strategize her attack. All of it would seem like a rather lengthy process, but Renn was so accustomed to it, it was the first thing she did when she faced an opponent. Now, as the boy stood facing her, rage flaming in his bronze, metallic eyes, she could see no weaknesses right off. It scared her a little bit. You are a harder puzzle. In the face of an enemy, don't show weakness. She told herself this over and over. She stood and reached for her sword. She would let him make the first move, and maybe, she would let him win this time, just to get his hopes up. This guy was on hypes and she could outsmart him by all means. Even so, it had to seem real, so she stood at the ready, sword in hand and they started circling each other. No weaknesses. This'll be fun.

There were three steps to winning a battle no matter who it is you face. One, you must stay one step ahead of your opponent. Two, you couldn't leave yourself open, in other words don't show weaknesses. Sometimes weaknesses were shown by accident, but you must try to show no weakness. Three, and perhaps most important, never show your back to your foe. From the beginning of battle training you were told never to show your back to your opponent, which also meant never run away. He sized up the girl before him, her stance where her focus of balance was, and searching for a weakness.

He stepped forward into her blade and parried it to the side, and than shoved her in the chest with his palm. She stepped back, but withstood the impact better than he had anticipated. A look of shock briefly crossed his face, but he quickly replaced it with a focused look. He backed away and parried her blows which came, again, mush faster and easier than he anticipated. She was definitely a force to be reckoned with, perhaps even to be respected, but he had to show her he was the best. He again stepped into one of her attacks, but this time brought his arm on her blade pinning it to his side and spun his body slamming the hilt of his sword into her arm, and disarming her.

He broke away from her and picked up her blade with his own and tossed it to her.

"I guess I win this round sweetness. Are you sure that you want to keep this up, I may have broken that arm of yours." His voice lacked any concern, perhaps scorn even a hint of maliciousness. By this point a crowd had gathered around the two of them. Safely outide the range of attack, but close enough to watch what was transpiring. This was were Xander excelled, a crowd around him ready to witness yet another victory. Another chance to prove he was the best, and show the others he was not to be trifled with.

The boy was clever, but it was too easy to elude him. Renn faked fear and threw unbalanced attacks. It happened quicker than she had expected, but he disarmed her, proudly announcing his victory to the crowd that had appeared and Renn. "I guess I win this round sweetness. Are you sure that you want to keep this up, I may have broken that arm of yours." he said, yet concern lacked in his voice. Instead, triumph and maliciousness rung through his clear words. Not for long. She pulled back, fake examining her arm. Renn supposed she could be an actress if she really wanted to. At least, she could put up a good lie. She lost her fighting stance and played with the bones in her forearm. Making a fake pain squeal, she spoke. "I think you're right,"

[/b] she said with an obvious fake cry of pain, but before her opponent had time to react she attacked him again. This time, she had let the blade lay next to her as she shoved the boy backwards while hooking an ankle around the back of his leg, pulling his feet out from under him. While he tumbled towards the gym floor, she gripped his arm, twisting him so that he hit the ground on his stomach. This was the best way to pin someone because they didn't have as much freedom with their arms.

She shoved a knee into the small of his back, keeping him pinned to the floor with only slight pressure. She grabbed his arms and pulled them behind his back, ripping the hair tie from her braid and tying his hands so he couldn't move, only momentarily. He would easily break the hair tie, but she kept her knee shoved into his back. She leaned down and whispered in his ear, her soft blonde hair flowing around his face. "Looks like sir sweetness himself just lost to a girl,"[/b] she said it softly enough so that the crowd that had circled them wouldn't hear. Knowing the second she got off of him he would break her hair tie, she settled onto his back and untied his hands, taking a moment to fix her hair into a ponytail. She stood, and not exactly pridefully, but not hunched over. She walked with her shoulders squared and didn't look back at her opponent, not wanting to bring any more embarrassment to him. Glancing at the clock, she realized she had spent until lunch fighting with the artistic soldier. She turned towards the corner her bag was in and walked out of the gym. The whole crowd that surrounded them had dispersed, but none said a word.

The moment the free autumn air hit her face she burst in chuckles and her face turned blood red. She honestly was pretty proud of herself for taking his sexist remarks so well and generating it into helping her kick his ass. Her instructor had told her to use that, but she was hardly ever a mad or even annoyed person. She had packed lunch and planned on eating by the lake she passed this morning, or even returning home to eat with Maria and Jameson, but she instead settled on a large boulder across from the training center. She faced away from the darkened building, but she secretly hoped the boy would come out. Had she imagined being distracted by his bronze eyes?

Round three was over before it had really even started. What he thought would be an easy chance to show this girl he was the best now had trickled away. A sharp pain ran up his spine as her knee dug into the small of his back. This time he didn't even bother to struggle from her grip as she pinned him down and tied his hands together. It was humiliating for him, especially with the crowd gathered around the battle. He waited for her to go before he erupted. His face turned a deep shade of red and he rose up roaring like an animal. He took his sword and snapped it over his knee and slammed a balled fist into the wall. A couple of the others wouldn't look at him, a few took quick glances at him as he ripped up the corner where he had fought. Finally he calmed down and threw himself onto the floor. He put his arms behind his head and thought about the fight that had just taken place. As many times as he ran it through his head he coudn't figure it out, there was no way a girl of her size should have, could have beaten him.

His thoughts eventually went to the girl herself. She was worthy of his attention, after all she had beaten him. He got up again and grabbed his pack from the floor and walked to the door. His back was straight and proud as if he hadn't been beaten, to look beaten was to truely be beaten. He shoved open the door into the cool air of District 1. Scanning the surrounding area he spotted her on a boulder across from the training facility with her back turned to him. Several thoughts came to mind, he could flip her for humiliating him, or he could try and act casual like losing didn't affect him at all. He decided the casual approach was better, he didn't want to give her the satisfaction of knowing she had gotten under his skin. Walking over to the boulder he vaulted over it landing beside her with a few inches to spare. He searched his mind for somethiing to say, but couldn't think of anything. Instead he just looked at her face realizing for the the first time how beautiful she was. She had his attention, but no more, he was interested to see what she would do with is attention.

(OOC: Rather small I know, but I just wanted to get another part of the story started.)

The once cold breeze that forced Renn into chills had now turned to a gentle sway of the trees and a cooling sensation of Renn's skin. Birds chirped their noon songs and all was quiet and peaceful. After rummaging through her lunch bag, stuffed inside her gym bag, Renn had given up on lunch and decided to wait. If the boy didn't come out in a few minutes, she would go to the lake and eat. Then, she could meet up with him again at the gym, if he wasn't embarrassed by her.. Renn hated to humiliate people, but she took pride in her work. If he refused to address her, she would just turn a cold shoulder and forget about it. It's not like it would work out anyways. What did she even want to work out? She pondered at it for a moment, before a body beside her jolted the calm around her. She jumped, but only slightly. The boy had come. He had vaulted over the boulder she perched on and took a seat next to her.

She expected something snobbish or manipulative to come out of his mouth, but instead, his eyes were focused on her and his lips remained closed. Renn leaned back slightly. Why was he staring at her like that? His eyes reflected off the sun and Renn peered into them, wondering what the cause was for their shimmery, metallic surface. Renn hated silence between two people. It was strange and unnerving to her. So she decided to break the silence, just like she was sure she'd done to his pride."Why are you staring at me like that?" She asked. Sensing a bit of awkwardness between them, she looked at her fingers on the boulder. Slight blush faded to her cheeks and she kept her head down so he wouldn't see. Was she really flattered by this? He was probably just determining how in hell she beat him, but still, she could have sworn something in his eyes was different then her other opponents. But she had never faced anyone with bronze eyes anyways. She scooted away from him, playing with the drawstrings of her bag to keep herself occupied.

He couldn't decide whether to laugh at her reaction or be insulted by it. He couldn't decide why he would be insulted, but for some reason he was. She had asked him why he was staring at her, well, it was mostly because he couldn't figure her out. Or was it that he couldn't figure out his feelings for her. She had moved away from him, so did that mean she was afraid of him or embarrased. So many questions, it was hard for him to keep everything straight. He moved a little closer to her and cleared his throat searching for something to say.

"So......ummmm.......your a good fighter. I don't think I've ever seen someone take me down so quickly. Also, I'm sorry I like, well I said all those sexist things. I'm not in the habit of apologizing, or losing, especially losing to a girl. I suppose that my apology means little, after, all that knock you gave to my ego was probably enough for you."

A deep red rose to his cheeks and he stared at the ground. He was suddenly angry at letting himself become so....attached to this girl, especially since he didn't even know her. It wasn't a feeling he was accustomed to, he was used to being on top and knowing exactly what he was doing. Now he felt so confused on so many levels. Before he could even think his hand shot out and enveloped hers. He turned an even deeper shade of red, but found he couldn't take his hand away from hers. He cleared his throat again, and searched though his mind for something else to say.

"Okay, I just want to start over. My name is Xander Thrash, since before I can remember my family and friends have told me that I would be a perfect fit for the Games. I've lived my life off of that philosophy, and I guess it has had an impact on my ego. Before today I've never lost a fight, infact I've never been straight up challenged by someone. It took me off my guard, and I didn't know how to handle a situation like that. I'm not necessarily asking for forgivenenss, but I want to start over."

Renn was not one to be shy, or shy away from an opponent. She beat him anyway, so why did she feel like a wounded doe? Something about the closeness of them was throwing her off. Renn was sure it was nothing, but it was nagging at the back of her head. He scooted closer to her and cleared his throat. Now she would figure it all out.

Why was he apologizing? Those sexist remarks were what helped her beat him. He couldn't apologize for losing either. Renn lost sometimes. It was only human. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that she really had meant to hurt his ego, but now she wished that wasn't her motive in the first place. He stared at the ground as if he were embarrassed. Renn didn't press him. She knew the feeling. But maybe she didn't know what he was feeling, because before she had time to think any farther, his hand shot out and engulfed her. His large fingers could close comepletly around hers so that the only thing you could see was her wrist. She had thought her hands were rather big, but now, her mind was changed. Her mind was also changed about this boy. Did he like her? She thought that he would hate her for embarrassing him, even though the presence of a crowd meant nothing to her. She couldn't have broken her fingers away even if she wanted to, but she found herself not wanting to.

Again he cleared his throat. "Okay, I just want to start over. My name is Xander Thrash, So was his hand holding hers a handshake? More questions ran through Renn's mind, but she wanted to hear all of what he had to say. Why did it matter to her so much? She then realized why the attack had surprised him so much. "I'm not necessarily asking for forgivenenss, but I want to start over."

Why would she have to forgive him for the way he was raised? Or how he thought about things? Renn might have been a fighter, and always took judgements of her opponent's movements, she was not one to judge personality before she got to know someone. She was fine with starting over. Maybe they could do things a different way... "Okay, sure. Let's start over. I'm Renn,"[/b]she said, scolding herself for being too friendly.A long pause hung in the air before she summoned up enough courage to speak. "I'm starving. You wanna have lunch by the lake?"[/b] That wasn't too friendly, but it wasn't too flirty either. Did she want to be flirty? Renn's mind tug back and forth between the options. She squeezed his hand a little in wait for his response.

At first there was little to no reaction to his outburst, and there was probably good reason. He really couldn't blame her if she ran away right than and there. Than he remembered his mammoth hand had enclosed hers so running away wasn't really an option even if she had wanted to. He wondered, had he been foolish to try and talk to her, was he romanticizing something with this girl that had completely whooped him? Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't, but he was pretty sure the feelings he had weren't foolish. He really did respect her, as the first person to beat him, and for not backing away from his brash arrogant demeanor. His confidence began to return, and he was giving himself a theoretical pat on the back for figure things out. Suddenly the girls voice broke through his thoughts and his attention snapped back to her.

"Okay, sure. Let's start over. I'm Renn"

Okay, it was a start, he now had her name, Renn. Than on a completely irrelevant train of thought he began to wonder if that was short for something else, or it that was her full name. Renn, that was a nice name, it wasn't a name that he heard often, if at all. It seemed to fit her to, she looked as delicate as a bird to him, but it masked a very different side, a warriors spirit. His thoughts could have continued in this rambling fashion but his thoughts were interrupted by her speaking again.

"I'm starving. You wanna have lunch by the lake?"

Okay, so now she wanted to have lunch with him. Was she making a move on him or was she just being nice? It was unclear to him what the motive was behind her question, and he didn't want to be made a fool of. He pondered her question before giving an answer, on one hand he didn't want to seem anxious, but on the other he didn't want to make her feel like he was rejecting her. He decided to play it cool, with her, or at least what he thought was cool.

"Sure, I'll have lunch with you Renn, but after that I've got to show you some place. It will most likely explain a bit more about myself. I'm not good at expressing myself so I figure I can let my actions do the speaking. Unles of course you ask me a question, than I can answer you.

He thought he handled that pretty well. A smug smile crept its way onto his face and he got up from the stone. He took her arm and wrapped it around his own as if he was excorting her and walked in the direction of the lake. The day still seemed cold, but for some reason he felt different. It was funny the affect someone could have on you, or at least have on your outlook. It would take more than a pretty face to change how he was, and he felt sure no one could ever change how he was.

Renn looked to Xander for an answer. He was so broad and strong. She wondered if what she thought was happening was meant for her to take it the way she was taking it. It was all making her mind go wild. Did he really like her? Was he just showing her respect because she beat him? Renn even decided to think about the fact that he could be tricking her. Men were beastly sometimes and their thoughts were often more jumbled than those of a woman. Why would genuine blush rise to his cheeks while his hand was enclosing hers if he was trying to trick her? Why did Xander bring so many questions out of Renn's mind? It was driving her slightly mad. "Sure, I'll have lunch with you Renn, but after that I've got to show you some place. It will most likely explain a bit more about myself. I'm not good at expressing myself so I figure I can let my actions do the speaking. Unles of course you ask me a question, than I can answer you."

Again, what he said caused wildness to return in Renn's mind. What did he mean? Did he want to fight her again or something? He stood with a smug smile and wrapped her arm around his, pulling her gently off the boulder. She reach down to retrieve her bag. She almost missed it, as Xander had already begun walking. More questions rang in her mind while they walked to the lake. She kept her eyes on the ground though. If Jameson and Maria saw her... She remembered the last time a boy brought her home, and even though he was only friend, Jameson and Maria made a big deal about it. They told their mom, who told their dad and he ended up scaring the boy off, even though he was just a friend. Renn was sure that her second dad couldn't scare Xander off, but she was most afraid of blushing. Though it was only natural, it was embarrassing to blush.

The lake was becoming nearer and nearer by the minute. Renn carefully unfolded her arm from Xander's and found a spot next to a cherry tree. The Cherry Tree.

[/i] She sat down and undid the strings on her bag. One by one, she placed the plastic containers with her lunch in it on the ground around her. This was a bit awkward, but maybe by the time lunch was over, it wouldn't be. She motioned for Xander to sit down and took the lids off a few of the containers. She had brought more than enough for herself, but not quite enough for two people. Renn grabbed a strawberry and popped it in her mouth. She wasn't going to wait for Xander, she was on the verge of starvation. How long have you been training anyways?[/b] she asked. It was a simple question, and one that might start a little conversation. She popped another strawberry into her mouth and laid down on her back, taking in the scents of the cherry tree and enjoying the bursting flavor of the strawberry.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/justify]

The walk was a good one, he enjoyed it. It had been a while since he had escorted a girl anywhere, the last one had been great, but she had long since disappeared. Perhaps he was to overbearing, it wouldn't have been the first time someone had stopped meeting him because of his attitude. He just hoped that this time would be different, he sure felt like it COULD be diferent, but he'd felt that way before. What was the name of the girl, an image flashed into his head, but his memory was faulty and he couldn't remember. Maybe that was for the best, if he was to approach this girl he had better not have any memories of the past. A shudder ran through his body as he thought of his family. They were all just as abrasive and rude as him, perhaps even more. They did nothing but talk about fighting, and the Hunger Games. Granted he loved those conversations, but he figured that would be a turn off. He decided right than and there that he would avoid his family unless asked expressly by her to meet them.

They neared the lake, and Renn broke away from him and took a seat underneath a cherry tree. Judging by how she instantly went there it was typical for her to come here. She undid the strings on her bag and took out some plastic containers that apparently held her food. It didn't appear as if there was enough for two, but it didn't matter, he had his own food to eat. He sat near the bank of the river looking out across it at the houses lining the opposite bank. Unzipping his own pack he took out a container that held several pieces of chicken, ham, and bacon. He grinned as he took out the food, at least his family new how to pack him lunch. He began to tear into the food, and continued to stare off into space. It gave him time to sort out his feelings, or lack there of. She was different, but in a good way. She had also beaten him in a battle, a first for anyone in the district to do. She was beautiful, but he didn't really know her, and that's what needed to change. He turned around to face her just as she asked a question.

"How long have you been training anyways?"

It was an innocent question, but would she like the answer. He had been training since before he couuld remember. He knew how to throw a knife before he could properly walk, which was pretty freaky. If anything was going to form into a relationship he had to be honest with her.

"Well, if I'm going to be honest I've been training since before I can remember. I think at a rough estimate I've been training for 18 years. My family wanted a champion in their family. They chose me to be that champion. I have two younger sisters, and one older brother, but they aren't exactly built for fighting. So as a result I've known nothing but fighting or working out. It payed off until today, I was undefeated, whether in a competition or just training. That is until today, I suffered my fist defeat, and I have to say it was a very humbling experience for me. I didn't like it, but it was humbling. I learned alot about myself and you from the battle, and I hope that it serves me well.

He considered saying more, but he needed to figure things out before saying more. He didn't want to make himself look like a fool by opening his mouth and saying something stupid. Instead he got up and moved to sit next to her. The sunlight breaking through the tree splashed onto her face and made he look even more beautiful. He hoped he would never have to eneter the games with her, he wasn't sure if he would be able to kill her. Thank goodness the next games weren't for quite some time, and he needen't worry about it right now. Throwing himself onto the ground he looked up into the tree, and wondered what she was thinking about was she disgusted by him, or was she willing to give him even the slightest chance with her.
