Leaves From the Vine [Hayes Family, D1]

Leaves from the vine, falling so slow
Like fragile, tiny shells drifting in the foam

The prince. The prodigy. The circus freak. The philophobic. The blind bandit.

Put them all under one roof with the king of the District One underworld as their father, and you have the Hayes family.

They haven't known perfection since their mom disappeared. They've known life in a great mansion, endless riches, beautiful clothes, and servants. They've known the finest Career training money can buy and praise from all who have seen them fight. They've known luxurious jewelry and rich food. But they have known nothing of her beauty, her quiet wisdom, her gentle ways. They want to believe that she's still alive, but with their father's dangerous illegal activities, they can never be sure. She vanished right at a vital point in one of his more shady deals, and no one has seen her since. Aine says she's dead and she's never coming back, while Leo insists that she's out there somewhere, waiting for the right moment to come home.

Either way, they were left to be raised by their father. And under his guidance, sibling rivalries grew into hatred and alienation. Perfectionism transformed into obsession. Some of them strived to be everything he wanted of them - others drew back and did anything they could to get away. But he's got his claws in each and every one of them, and there's no escaping now. Not for as long as they have their name.

It's an understatement to call the Hayes family dysfunctional, for they are nothing short of chaotic.

[Based off of the Fire Nation Royal Family from Avatar: The Last Airbender, with a few modifications. Expect disasters, insanity, betrayal, sibling rivalry, deception, and of course, banishment. ^^ All the family angst and drama from the show will be transferred into this plot, plus maybe a little extra]

THE FAMILY

LEO - THE PRINCE - 18 - played by Lei

Leo is the first born child of Enlon and Lia. From a young age, he was disdained by his father and the object of his sister Aine's manipulation, ridicule, and deception. His mother, however, loved and favored him over his sister. At some point in his early childhood, he was trained in the use of dual dao swords, and can use them even more efficiently than Aine. He was devastated when his mother left them, knowing very well that she was leaving him to face Aine and his father alone. Ever since he has been subject to his father's constant reminders that he'll never be good enough, leading him to constantly strive to be better and giving him an edge in life.

AINE - THE PRODIGY - 16 - played by Stare

Aine was born to Enlon and Lia about one year after her brother, Leo. Aine grew up in the riches, the splendor, and the privileges of one of the wealthiest families in District One. Her sharp wits and the fact that she was a Career prodigy gained her great attention and acclaim, which quickly made her Enlon's favorite child. Her father began raising her as his true heir from an early stage, taking her into his confidence and educating her in combat, while on the other hand neglecting Leo. Her mother, on the other hand, treated Aine as if she was a little monster or a problem child, and Aine was not at all disturbed when she disappeared. Afterwards, her talents expanded and any hopes of redemption faded into nonexistance.

JESSALYN - THE CIRCUS FREAK - 15 - played by Zoe

As a child, Jessalyn demonstrated superior skills in acrobatics, able to gracefully perform a series of cartwheels and somersaults which Aine could never replicate. As a result, her sister would often call her a 'circus freak' to make herself feel superior. Despite these teasings, Jessalyn continued to develop her acrobatic skills to the point where she can walk on her hands as easily as her feet and bend herself into a variety of shapes. She was a happy and lighthearted child, although she followed Aine rather blindly, and keeps both those qualities to this day. She's grown to be quite beautiful, attracting the attention of many young men, but remains quite oblivious and naive. She has a bright and optomistic outlook on life, making her differ greatly from her twin, Brigit. Enlon isn't quite sure what to make of her or do with her - more often than not, he simply ignores her and lets her be.

BRIGIT - THE PHILOPHOBIC - 15 - played by Python

Brigit was a very normal child, though often quite shy. While Jessalyn and Aine played together she would often sit to the side and be content with observing. After Lia disappeared, however, their father came down strictly on Brigid, hoping that while Aine ran the shady half of the family business, Brigit could take over the more official half of running a successful and well known jewelry company. Brigid could have anything she wanted, as long as she behaved. He forced upon her the ways of formal society - only speak when spoken to, never shout or scream, never show any true emotion. If she did, she was shut down. As a result, Brigit developed a fear of feeling emotions, particularily love. She relates the difficulty of her life now to the heartbreak she felt after her mother left, and consequentially become philophobic. She shows little emotion or interest in anyone or thing. She specializes in knife throwing, even more so than Azula, though she knows to hold back her talents when her older sister is around. She's slightly protective of Jessalyn even if she'll never admit it, and can relate a lot to Leo, knowing what it's like to be on their father's bad side.

CLARE - THE BLIND BANDIT - 14 - played by Arx

Born blind, Clare was immediately misjudged by both her parents - to her father, she was useless, and to her mother, she was fragile and incapable of taking care of herself. Growing up, Clare was sheltered to an extreme. So extreme, in fact, that up until her mother disappeared, very few people realized that the Hayes had a fifth child. When she was younger she rarely played with her siblings, trapped by her blindness, and had no real distinct relationships with any of them. As she grew, she developed a very keen sense of hearing, able to detect someone approaching her from across an entire yard. After Lia vanished, Enlon ignored Clare as he ignored Jessalyn. This treatment toughened Clare up, and she abandoned the weak ways she had developed under her mother's care, becomming a tom boy to the extreme. She figured out ways to use her blindness and hearing abilities to her advantage, conning people out on the streets and becoming a very skilled thief. Behind her father's back, she has turned into one of the district's best criminals, and proud of it.
