Gender: Female
District/Area: District 11
Appearance:
Ash Owens has a thick, fluffy mane of medium length black hair. Her bangs are neatly trimmed and run from one side to another. Her eyes are a dark shade of green, but her mother had told her that before her father died, Ash's eyes were the exact same icy gray as her fathers. She had been told the same thing about her skin and hair, too. Her skin was once a pale ivory, but was now a deep tan,and her hair was once a chocolate brown. Ash also has a relatively large birthmark on her abdomen, which is darker than her skin tone, and is almost a giant oval circling her middle.Personality:
Ash is taller than most girls at 5'7”, and she is normal weight at about 120 lbs. While she is quite tall compared to most girls she knows, people always tell her she has super small feet. Ash has also lost almost all of her baby fat by being very active. Her face is squared with high cheekbones and a pointy chin, making her look much older than she actually is. Many people have told Ash recently that she is very pretty, but Ash thinks otherwise. She doesn't wear any make-up because she thinks it makes her look like a clown.
Ash has strong forearm and calf muscles from playing football with her five brothers, when they aren't working on the farm, on the small plot of land behind their house. She has good hand-eye coordination and is light and quick on her feet. She can lift weights, but not very heavy one since she prefers to practice her running. Ash tries to perfect her endurance, stealth, and agility when she runs. If you were to look at Ash, you would not know that she had a plethora of muscle, nor that she exercises frequently. She doesn't look skinny or plump; she looks just like a regular fourteen-year-old girl, besides the fact that she stands a few inches taller than most of her friends.
Ash is definitely a tomboy. She has a heart that is practically made of stone, so she doesn't like most things girls her age gush over, like cute animals and clothes. Ash has a little bit of crude humor, but she only unleashes it when she's around guys. Other than that, she has a very good sense of humor and can often lighten the mood. The death of her father has hardened her, and she soon began to build a wall around herself since. She never opens up to anyone, with the exception of her mom and two of her best friends.History:
Ash is a very bright girl, but she tries not to acknowledge it. She doesn't like being smart because people call her a nerd and a loser, even though she's far from it. Ash is very insecure about her social status, even though she tells herself she shouldn't care daily. She wishes she wouldn't care what people think about her, but it's very hard for her not to care. All she wants to do is please everybody she meets because she feels like it would have made her father happy. Ash feels that whenever it's not a nice, sunny day, her dad isn't happy, and that she has to do something to please him.
Ash finds it hard to trust anybody because she's been betrayed by many of her friends before. She also doesn't except help from people that often because it makes her feel weak. She does give out more help than she takes in, though. She, of course, helps her brothers and her mother, since they are her family, but she also helps people who aren't her family, such as very close friends that she can trust. Even though Ash can seem rude, her friends and family know she means well and often try do good things for her. They never do anything like a surprise party, because of the fact that it reminds her too much of her father.
Ash's dad died when she was a mere eight-year-old. He had gone to the town square to sell some of their crops to vendors in the market. A man in a Peacekeeper's outfit had been following Mr. Owens for quite some time before approaching him. The man introduced himself as a new Peacekeeper and then asked him if he could ask Mr. Owens a few questions. The two men went into an alley, and the fake Peacekeeper beat Ash's father unconscious and thew him onto the hard cobblestone ground. The fake Peacekeeper had then whipped out a knife and slit the innocent man's throat open. Nobody could figure out who the man was or why he had wanted to kill Ash's father. One of the district's real Peacekeepers informed the Owens family that it was only an assumption, but they believe it was a man that had once lived in District 11 and had hated Mr. Owens, but then moved to the capitol and was now back for revenge.Codeword: oDair
Ash started to go through a complete transformation the moment her father passed. He hair began to turn from a rich brown to a shiny black, her eyes from a hazy gray to a dark green, and her skin a pale olive to a deep tan. She had gone from a happy, girly girl, social butterfly to a walled-in, tomboy wallflower. Everybody in her family noticed, it was hard not to, and tried to help her. Her brothers, Connor, Matt, Natt, Jason, and Carlos, knew that their sister and father had been each others favorites. The children grew closer, but the mother and daughter grew apart.
Every reaping day from then on was a nail-biting experience. Two years after their father's death, the eldest brother in the family was reaped. He had made it to the final five, but had died during a battle with a Career from 2. Ash's brother was seventeen when he died. Connor, the now eldest, had been sixteen, the twins Matt and Natt were fifteen, Jason was thirteen, Carlos was eleven, and Ash was ten. That was four years ago, and nobody has been reaped since. Ash has a feeling that somebody will be reaped soon though, since, combining all the entries of the three siblings still eligible to be reaped, is thirty-seven and they must have at least another five from tesserae.
