You've come so far,
Well done darling
We knew that you had it in you
You can do anything that you want,
World is an oyster, dont dissapoint us
In District One, families tend to be a bit ruthless. They seem to forget about the blood that bonds them together and focus on the sole purpose of their existence: The Games. The competition of the foreshadowing games is always there, always threatening to interfere with relationships. I, too, have fallen victim to the ruthlessness. Lost friends over it, but then I suppose we were never really friends at all. We were just people who enjoyed each other's company, but not each other. No one really has time for friends, anyways. It's not an easy task trying to balance school, training and shopping with a social life. I kind of gave up a long time ago, but that doesn't mean I don't have a secluded group of girls I talk to in school. Acquaintances is a good term, because we usually only associate at the lunch table or in the hallways.
And, surprisingly, there is someone I can always fall back on. Phenakite. She may not be the friendliest one in the family, but Ripred knows I'm not, either. And perhaps that's what makes me look up to her a bit. Her confidence. Ruthlessness. She's everything I wanna be when I get older. And I'm always pushing myself to do as well as her in Training, but it's no secret I'm not trying hard enough in Training. What can I say? Doing my nails or hair or getting an outfit ready for tomorrow always lures me in like a mousetrap and BOOM!
After all, I live in District One, and although we're a Career District, we're still the Luxury District. We're supposed to bathe in the second-best riches in the world - the first, of course, belonging to the Capitol - and so I do. I take advantage of our situation, but not in a bad way. I use what's given to me. Just like if you give someone food, they'll eat it. It's human nature, honey.
And today, after Training and showering, I want nothing more to do with the Career aspect of my life. I want to indulge in chocolate while watching a chick flick. I wanna bathe my feet in the finest of salts until they feel like a baby's bottom. But, overpowering every other urge I have at this moment, I want to spend some time with Phena. I wanna talk to her about how's life going? And who's being a bitch to you this week? So I venture up to her room, not really caring if she's in the midst of some provocative activity, and knock thrice on her door. Before she can reach the knob, I twist and it push forward, revealing the room behind the door. I swing my body around, hand gripping the doorframe. "Hey, Phena... Do you wanna maybe like, paint our nails and watch a movie?" Of course, when girls ask one of their girlfriends to "watch a movie," they really mean talk.
