Lend me your hand and we'll conquer them all
But lend me your heart and I'll just let you fall
Kovu liked to wander when he had nothing better to do, but wandering tended to take him into dangerous situations. A few days ago, while aimlessly walking around, he found himself in an expensive bakery. He hadn't been there for any reason other than to smell the cakes baking, which was quite the nice pastime for somebody who had never tasted cake in his life, even if it was tempting to walk out with something. There had been a nice baker lady behind the counter, but she eyed him as if he were a criminal - the worst scum the earth had to offer. Perhaps he had even looked the part, shaggy hair and torn clothing and worn face and all. Who knows. Turns out, the nice baker lady wasn't so nice after all, and she shoved him out of the shop with hardly a word.
Times like that, Kovu felt worthless. Sure, he did steal from places, but what was he gonna do? Wheel a three-tiered cake right out of the shop? March in and maniacally smash all the cakes to bits? Steal all their money?
Oh, but the last option probably wasn't a bad idea.. except, well. Not a lot of people in District Nine could afford delicious, fancy cakes, even for birthdays. They could hardly even afford the small pastries at the front counter.
Nevertheless, he hadn't been there for anything. Just the smells, very sweet and very tempting. He had a bad habit of finding places that only made him feel bad about his life.
Today was no different, except he found himself in another location.
Sitting outside the mansion and several feet up in a tree (he told himself he liked heights, but really he was bored out of his mind and climbing seemed like a good idea) he stared at the front door with no particular goal in mind. This was one of his common wandering spots. When he didn't have a destination in mind, he tended to end up here, in the secluded bit of forest surrounding the house. The tree hid him to a point, but anybody exiting through the front door could probably catch him if they turned their head. Maybe he wanted to be caught. He wasn't sure. They would attack him or chase him off, if he had to bet on it, but nobody came outside. Kovu couldn't blame them for that, because snow was everywhere and the wind cut bitterly into his face and body, even with the warm coat he stole.
He questioned what he was doing there - why he didn't find somewhere warm. But he knew, and he tried to ignore the fact. He was supposed to make himself useful, and this was the only way he knew how. Spying, like it was some kind of war.
His heart clenched as the door opened. He wasn't close enough to feel the warm gust of air from inside the house, but he wished he was. Nearly shivering, the cold tortured him. Still, he had other worries. Who was out there? He hoped not any of the more important members of the group - the "Pride" as they so liked to be called.
Shrinking back into the shadow of the tree branches, he looked on, trying to discern the face of the figure before him.

[OOC: I hope it's okay, but I'm having it so that they sort of know about each other, but aren't together. I PMed you about this also. :)]
