Harmony and Fabian Turcotte were born on the same day forty years ago, and they never let that go. At first it was a simple joke that was bounced between the young couple, and when their first child came along thirty minutes to midnight on May 16th , they were overjoyed as any parent. The family was well off at first, with plenty of money to take care of their baby. Soon, they had their second, a daughter, mysteriously born on the same day around 9:00 at night. They had a good laugh, and then put away the fact with a few birthday plans. Their next child was born on May 16th, at three pm. The family was beginning to lose income with the father’s recent demotion, but the parents could not help but find interest in these strange phenomena. The first twin came at 11:50 in the morning, the second right at noon . On May 16th.

The children before the twins were like prophets. They dreamed of the future, and occasionally it would come true, though they often expected it was just chance and coincidence. And occasionally lies. The twins were different though, they never thought of anything but the present moment. Out of pure curiosity, the next child was born, at 9:00 a.m. the same day as the others. By now the children who were old enough were begging their parents to stop, but they would not listen. The strange coincidences had been heard of, and they had gained a small amount of fame for their children’s peculiar birthdays. On May 16th, at five o’ clock, and twenty after in the morning, their next children were born, twins again, twenty minutes apart. Their last child was born at 12:10 in the morning. The mother died in childbirth, halting the development of more children, but also leaving the family penniless. As the couple were known for constantly putting pregnancies close together, they resulted in many not-quite-right children born very close in time, usually an exact year.

I. Casper Turcotte
The Far Future

The most ambitious of the Turcotte children, Casper aims for the future and he intends to make the most of his life. He aspires for money, fame, and a life of love and happiness. He hardly ever makes a decision on the spot, and can spend weeks if you let him turning an idea of in his head to decide if it is the right thing to do or the best thing for him. He comes first, but his siblings come directly after. Sometimes he may come off as a tad snobby, but he is intelligent in many fields and wishes to become a doctor, so he can help those in need. He is good with money, being he thinks so hard about how to use it, but his siblings have to yell at him quite a bit to hurry up. Casper doesn’t mean to, but he is a bit distant from his family, jumping far ahead of everyone else and not waiting for them to catch up.

II. Lauren Turcotte
The Future

Lauren is in the firm belief she has “visions” of the future. She walks around with her high, telling people what will happen, though in truth it is only the obvious. Someone didn’t do their chore. “Dad will smack him for not doing his work,” she will say, but that happens everytime. All she needs to do is close her eyes. Some superstitious people believe in her family’s strange birthday quirk, and will go to her for future telling. Most of it will not come true, but the few that do are spread far and wide for people to know. She was born exactly one year after her brother, unhealthy and maybe a tad crazy.

Lloyd was one of the few children Harmony and Fabian actually waited a good amount of time to conceive. His reflexes are surprisingly well developed, and he has a nickname around the small house as Quickie. He is a sneaky little devil, and violence seems to be the answer for him most of the time though he does it swiftly. You can be knocked out before you know he is angry, and not be able to regret it until you wake up a few days later. He is a major flirt, and a new girl is tucked close to him at least once a month, if not week. A few of his siblings doubt his claim to never having slept with anyone. They also doubt the claim Elaine Avery’s newborn is not his daughter.

Charity is like her twin, she thinks of only what is happening now. She is hungry, so she takes food from the cupboard without thinking it is all that is left and no one else will have anything to eat. Floor is dirty? “Let’s sweep it under the rug, it doesn’t matter if later bugs will invade, I’m now and that’s all that matters.” She is very easy going and doesn’t often care if something is going to get her in trouble or not. She isn’t too imaginative, just lazy and uninspired.

Just like his twin he is fixed on the present time. He is a slacker, with poor grades and little motivation except for running. Running, running, and running. It’s all he ever seems to do. Running and sleeping is his life, no matter how many times he faints. He is the thinnest of all the starving children, most likely due to his strange need to run. He often says, when asked, “I want to leave the moment and make it to another time. When things are better. I don’t care if I go backwards or forwards.”

Spring seems to have a bad case of short-term memory loss. She can’t remember what happened just a few moments ago, but she recalls the cookie she ate on her third birthday. Being so absent minded, she is also very disorganized in many forms. She is clumsy, and by most of her siblings she is considered the major screw-up, as it seems everything she does is incorrect. She honestly does try, but that does not stop her from breaking down into tears on most occasions. She is an artist though. She sculpts, she paints, she sketches, she writes, you name it and she does it. Most of what she does is based off real life though. Human figures, the sunset, a bench, a day through school with a teacher. Her creativity seems to be a tad low. She is also nervous to show her peers, keeping most things in a trunk or hiding them in the forest.

Cedric lives off his memories. He is by far the most intelligent Turcotte, more than even Casper. He remembers everything. He cannot seem to make himself forget. His memory is near perfect. This is a blessing and a curse, as some things he would rather not remember. Ask a question, and if he’s heard the answer he will happily answer. His critical thinking isn’t his strong point though, and he relies on the knowledge he has been told. He does not draw conclusions the way most people might, giving Casper a point to let him know he is not all perfect in the smarts.

Benjamin is like a little annoying bug, always reminding you to do something you don’t exactly want to do. “You said you would,” “You promised him you would,” and “Don’t you remember when…” are his favorite sentence starters. He is a questioner, always asking where someone has been and what they did that day. His nosy personality has led to many “SHUTAHP”s in his direction, and the occasional bop on the head. Overall he is a very friendly young man, with a smile always planted firmly on his face and the strong determination to get things done and done right.

Almost not born on the 16th, Epitaph never really cared what day she was born. She is quiet but not at all observant. She is a clever little weasel, creeping around the house with her head down. At times she will pause, look up, and stare at one of her siblings for quite some time, until they leave the room and she can get back to her lurking. Most find her eyes captivating, freezing them in time to be observed by her young mind. Her memory is just as spectacular as Cedric’s, and the creative things she comes up with that will happen soon oddly seem to come true, most of the time because she set it in motion. She tends to know where her siblings are, like the little stalker she is. That angelic demon.

Her flowers are outshined by the pair, and though her parents kicked her out the moment they learned she was pregnant, she found residence in a friend’s house. She often visits the Turcotte house, looking for the father of her child and wishing he would only come and kiss the baby.
