It is simultaneously impossible to believe that you've already been here a week and impossible to believe that you've only been here a week. Your aching feet and burning skin feel like they've never known anything else, but you remember the Capitol—and, even more painfully, home—as though you just boarded the train to leave. Everything in the Arena has coalesced into a single memory of blood and sweat, fighting and corpses, animals who seem too conscious and humans who seem too bestial.
None of it matters anymore, you suppose. Only the future, and one way or another you won't be here much longer. That isn't as pleasant an idea to ruminate over as you'd hoped, so you try to put it out of your mind. For a while you try to rest—after all, it might be your last chance—but the heat makes it difficult. You settle into an uneasy half-sleep just in time for the Anthem to yank you back into consciousness. The faces of the dead flash above you:Elodie Magpie, District Five
Owen Rook, District Seven
You count, then count again because you can't quite believe that you made it to the final four. Only three more tributes need to die before you can go home—but that doesn't encourage you the way it should. They will be three of the four luckiest and strongest, three of the four hardest to kill.
Then again, you're the fourth. Maybe you have a chance at this after all.
Congratulations on surviving Day Seven, Tributes!
