It's cold tonight, this morning, whatever it is. No matter what time it is (it's four in the fucking morning, that's what time it is), it's freezing. Frost has settled across the window, painting the pane with delicate spindles of ice, sweeping patterns in faint reflected glory. It's beautiful, if not for the fact that the ice is on the inside. The window is thrown open, curtains fluttering with the slight breeze of the night. The window had been carelessly left open earlier and, despite my efforts, it simply wouldn't budge. The ice had jammed it up, creating the perfect hole for the frigid night air to flow through, straight into the room, and cocooning around my body. (My body was sore enough from momma's anger earlier, her screeching filling the air as she hit me and I tried my hardest to close the window. She left eventually, leaving me with a bruise along my left temple and scratches down my neck.)
I want nothing more than to give into the blissful dreams of sleep. I want to be taken by the waves of slumber across the waters and onto the shores of quiet reverie. I am oh so tired, but my mind continues to race and twirl. (Where is he? Has he gotten himself into trouble? Is he... Is he with someone?) My heart aches at the very thought, my body curling in tighter as I try to shut off the images that begin to seize my mind. (Tyrannus's body curled around someone else for heat...) My eyes snap shut, forcing my mind to rid itself of all thoughts. A subtle buzz takes over my mind as I calm my breathing, willing the tears to stop before they even start.
There a quiet creak from the window and then I can hear the shuffling of feet on the wooden floor. My heart races for a moment before it drops into the pit of my stomach. (Where could he have been for so long?) I feel sick, my stomach churning as the sound of shoes grows closer before they stop. A quieter noise grows closer as the sound of dropping fabric reaches me ears. The cold air stirs around me and pricks into my skin roughly as the sheet is pulled back, but then there is a body behind me, curling around me and drawing me back into a clothed chest. His breath is in my ear and I can feel him smile, but my heart is clenched hard, like my teeth. The acid swirls in my stomach until I feel it materializing as words upon my tongue.
"Where have you been, Tyrannus?"
