The day an orphan reached the age of eighteen they were forced on the streets to figure out their own way to survive. Cameo always knew that day would come, in fact soon, but she never expected it so early. As pathetic as it was Cameo found no need to remember her own birthday, it was never celebrated or cared about. If it wasn't for school and the yearly cycle, she'd probably even question her own age that no one was even certain about. Cameo's birthday was the day a little infant was found on the front porch, and by her small size they estimated no more then two days old. Either way the 'special day' was quickly approaching without Cameo's knowledge, and there for without ability to prepare.
Returning from a hunting trip that held no luck, Cameo was already not in the best of moods as her stomach growled angrily for anything. A small suitcase and bag were left on the steps, and from a block away Cameo could spot that it was hers. As a lump grew in her throat, Cameo jogged the rest of the way in disbelieve. She could feel her bones rattle, because she knew she wasn't at all prepared. Slamming open the front door, Cameo demanded to know what happened though she already knew the answer.
"You're 18, happy birthday." One of the stupid foster parents congratulated with pure sarcasm because none of them liked Cameo and her attitude. Freezing for a second Cameo still couldn't believe what was going on, as if she was in a dream, actually nightmare, waiting to wake up.
Swinging the bag over her shoulder, and lifting the tiny suitcase, Cameo had no clue what she was doing or where she was headed. The first place she could think of heading was her true home, behind the fence. It was still freezing out, which meant no game or comfort. After the first two nights with an empty stomach and a tree as a bed, Cameo knew this wouldn't work, at least for the winter.
Making her way towards the town with the little things she had, Cameo knew the first thing she needed was to find was a job and a place to stay. Looking at the signs in the window, Cameo knew they wouldn't even think about hiring an orphan girl with short hair and a bad personality. Feeling hopeless Cameo plopped down under a tree with her stuff right next to her. It wasn't until seeing a homeless person with a sign that it clicked in her head.
Of course Cameo wasn't going to be the type to have such a sign begging for money, so after a little searching she managed to fine a piece of cardboard and marker. Writing 'Will work for food and bunk' Cameo also wasn't going to look pathetic holding up a sign. Finding a stick and after chewing up a few pieces of gum, Cameo dug the sign into the ground and sat back with a cigarette.
