It was a cold September day, the wind coming off the water made the temperature drop even more as it came in big gusts. Those walking through the market pulled their coats closer to their bodies and pulled down their caps. Everyone had a destination and no one stopped to talk. Everyone was just moving, busy, busy, busy. Along the way, people passed by a stall selling fresh fish. Some wrinkled their noses against the harsh fish smell, others glanced the products before turning away, and finally some gave a look of pity at the boy selling the wares.
Dark circles formed under his eyes, showing early mornings of work. His skin, despite it being the beginning of autumn was burned by the sun. A thin jacket covered his skinny frame as he tapped a rhythm on the table with one hand. With the other, he was propping up his head. His blue gaze was glazed over. Someone could run over his stall with a hovercraft and it seemed the boy would not notice.
A cold breeze whipped through the air and Reese shivered underneath his coat. It wasn’t enough to protect him from the approaching cold but it at least gave some warmth. He thought back to the warm home that awaited him once the sun had set. Except, it would be hard to return without any money. He hadn’t sold a single thing through the morning. No one wanted to support the little independent business anymore. The Capitol didn’t really buy from them and neither did most of District Four. None of his regulars decided to stop by that day and it left the young boy in despair.
If he returned to the house without a dime, he would be harassed by his brothers. Even in their older ages, they haven’t given up on beating on the youngest brother. Everything was his fault, which was the philosophy in the family. Without a father to run the business, it was left on the shoulders of four incapable boys. Leon was probably the best qualified but he was busy with his wife, pregnant with their first child and due soon.
The other brothers, Elliot and Garrett possessed the skill to be good fisherman but lacked the willpower and brains to keep the operation moving smoothly. Reese had brought up, once or twice, to maybe shut down the business and apply for work in the commercial fishing companies but the two were stubborn. They wanted to keep their father’s business alive and Reese was being dragged along for the ride. Reese had been taught by his brothers to keep his mouth shut and for now, he really was.
Even if it meant that he was forced to sit outside with the fish. “How much longer do I have to sit here?” Reese questioned himself, catching sight of the sun sitting high above the horizon. ‘A long time.’ His mind answered the question.
At that moment, Reese wished for company. Except, his only friends for the time being were the dead fish who stared at him, eyes fogged over with death. A small breeze picked the cold off the ice chilling the fish and pushed it into Reese’s face. The bitter feel made the boy flinch but the smell was nothing new. He did make a face of disgust though when the smell entered his mouth and stung his tongue. This was going to be a long and quite miserable day.OoC-
notes: The picture on top, I just wanted to see how it looked with the post. I'm sure I won't use it for all of his. I made so it could be a part of a table but since they don't work here, I don't want it to go to waste. xD
Also, this is only an okay post. I just need to adjust to role playing Hunger Games. They will get better.
