Lakota Denning
Age: 15
Gender: Female
District: 12
Appearance:
Lakota is pale, but like everyone else, usually is covered by a thin layer of grey coal dust. She has dark hair that falls down to her shoulders. Her hair is cut in a short, choppy way that frames her thin face. Lakota hardly ever worries about aspects of her appearance. She doesn't go to pains to take care of her hair. She mostly just cuts it herself, and keeps it short so it's easier to manage. She doesn't like to spend time dealing with her hair or skin or clothes. She doesn't understand how people from the capitol and upper districts can care so much about the way they look.
She has almond-shaped hazel eyes that have probably seen more than they should in her short lifetime. Just by looking into her eyes, you can tell she has been through a lot. Her eyes can be soft and loving one second, but fierce and angry the next. Lakota is a mass of contradictions.
Lakota is thin, like everyone else in her district, but she is not nearly as starving. Her father is runs a butcher shop, so they don't go without food as often as most. She doesn't have to worry about food, and she tries not to think about the fact that she has enough, while people are starving right outside her door. She wishes she could be ignorant to that fact, but since she can't, she chooses to ignore it when possible.
Personality:
Lakota is a bit anti-social. She carries a sketch pad everywhere so that when she is done with all the drama of living in the real world, she can disappear into the world of art. Art is her favorite thing in the world, and it helps her to get away when she is frustrated with the things and people around her. Her favorite form of art? Coal sketches. She's been drawing with coal for a long time. Coal just feels right to her. She has always felt on the outside of her district, left out the tight-knit family the people of 12 have formed. Coal is the one thing that is District 12 through and through, and it always will be.
Lakota is closed off from the world, but she can also welcome other people into her world. She is just wary of letting people in too quickly. She'd rather wait and make sure they are trustworthy before getting hurt. She has been hurt badly by the people in her past, and those experiences have left their mark on her life. She never trusts easily. She learns from her past mistakes.
Lakota is fierce and protective, especially after what happened to her family. She lives with her father and a young girl who most people think is her sister named Drae. She may not welcome people in so easily, but the people she does trust, she would be willing to protect with her life. She has been through a lot, and in her mind, it is worth her life to make sure the people she loves don't have to feel what she has.
History:
Lakota has had a long and tragic past. Her father was an alchoholic and he was abusive of his family. He beat his wife and two children. To the kids, it felt like he never said anything to them without an insult tacked onto the end. When they were younger, Lakota and her brother never understood why their mother stayed with their father when she was so miserable. Of course, their mother knew if she ever left, such young children would be eaten alive by such an abusive man.
When Lakota was five, her father beat her mother to death. Lakota would never forget that day. Just the screams were enough to give her nightmares for months. Lakota's older brother was killed when a tunnel in the coal mines collapsed a few years later. She was in school during the time, but was called down to wait at the site of the accident to see who had made it out. She waited for hours, but her brother never came out. She walked home alone that night, because her father hadn't come. Lakota promised herself she would never forget those images of violence, and would always remember her lost family.
A few years ago, Lakota met Drae. Drae was five at the time, and Lakota was twelve. Drae came from a starving family, and her mother had recently died. Lakota was nervous about becoming close to Drae, but she figured both of their situations at home were awful, and it couldn't get much worse. It would be nice to have someone who actually felt like family at home. Lakota took Drae in as her own sister. Lakota and Drae still live with Lakota's father. He swears he's changed, but Lakota is still on the lookout for when he will go on one of his violent rages.

Comments: I've never played someone with such a violent history, so I hope this is okay!
