Appearance:
Anemone Harrison never considered herself anything out of the ordinary. With her mother’s dull, mousy brown hair that slyly touched past her shoulders, almost pigment-less lips, and a face dusted with freckles, one could take a long look at Anemone walking by, and instantly forget what the girl looked like the moment she was gone. There is hardly a notable feature about her. At 5’5 and an average physique, Anemone can be described as “just another brick in the wall”. Her eyes, she was told by family friends, were once “the color of lily pads in the spring” and “brighter than the summer sun” as a young girl. However, the abandonment of her mother and the physical abuse from her father had stolen any hope or promise her eyes may have once held, leaving behind two dull green shells of despair.
As she sees her hair only as a distraction and a nuisance, Anemone often ties her thin, mousy, perpetually wavy tresses back high with a piece of hemp twine. Her ponytail so severe it pulls back her face, giving her an intense cat-like appearance, intimidating others to either protect their belonging or to simply keep at bay. Due to her father never bothering to buy her clothing after her mother’s departure, Anemone must make due by altering her older brothers’ oversized flannels and pants into makeshift dresses and shorts, much to her chagrin at school. And to add unto her unaccepted fashion statements, the harsh purple and blue bruises she displays along her arms, legs, collarbone, and face from her father’s occasional beatings have become a significant part of the others’ leisure time conversations.

Personality:
Those who don’t take the time to truly get to know Anemone, or “Andie” by most, simply match her persona to her physical appearance: generic and uninteresting. Daily school life for Anemone consist of replying in one word answers in the rare occasion a teacher calls upon her and numbly navigating through her classmates’ harsh critiques and criticisms about her physical appearance.
Nevertheless, if one does manage to get past the steel walls of distrust the green eyed girl has placed around her, they’d discover the Anemone that hardly reveals herself to anyone. The Anemone with a sense of humor, albeit dry and self-deprecating, who can tell vivid stories and make impressions that drags the listener into her own world and melts the outside reality. They’d be introduced to the Anemone who has the capability of smiling a sunny smile that can warm your blood, even in winter’s coldest nights. The Anemone who honestly listens to what you have to say, and sincerely gives a damn. The Anemone who has become so skilled at lying over the years from covering up the cause of her bruishes that she has a harder time believing truth over fiction and can lie without even realizing it. The Anemone who is fiercely protective of her family, no matter how broken or distorted it may be. However, most don’t bother getting to know the real Anemone.

History:
Anemone is the only girl and the third of four children born to Sego and Lotus Harrison. The first being Hawthorn, her senior by six years, the second being Sage, her senior by one year, and her younger brother, Cypress, born six years after Anemone herself.
Sego and Lotus owned a small, but successful, clinic together. Be it fever or work injury or any disease under the sun, the Harrisons treated any ailment the citizens of District 11 thought herbs could not cure. They had made a name for themselves in town, and managed to provide a life for their family that was better off and better fed than the majority of the district. Sego was walking on clouds, ecstatic he had everything he could possible ask for: a large, healthy family, a loving wife, and overall happiness. Lotus, however, proved to be unsatisfied with what life had given her.
Two years after Cypress’s birth, when Andie was hardly eight years of age, Lotus Harrison abandoned her family and ran for the woods without leaving a note, a reason, or a goodbye. Sego, heartbroken and shattered, turned to alcohol for solace. This is when the beatings began.
Even at eight years of age, Anemone was an accurate sketch of her mother, having next to no differences with the woman other than height, her feminine curves, the beauty mark she had on her chin, and the laugh lines. Weeks after his abandonment full of binge drinking, Sego took one jaded look at Anemone reading on the couch, and attacked her with all the anger and lonesomeness he had. Hearing the commotion, Hawthorn, yielding unto age fifteen at the time, ran in and protected his sister, forcing his father back into bed. After the first assault, Sego’s attacks diminished to only when Hawthorn was not home. But at age nineteen, Hawthorn left the Harrison residence, and Anemone was left to fend for herself.
Andie’s relationship with her father is an odd one. During the day, when sober, Sego and Anemone avoid each other at all costs. Only being forced to sit across from one another at the dinner table, exchanging the day’s stories with Sage or Cypress, but never each other. Although Sego can remember fairly well mistreating his daughter the days after a beating, he never had an idea or the strength to apologize to her, to merely talk about it. And since Hawthorn told Anemone that first night he attacked her he was beating their mother, not her, she had learned to accept everything and not fight her dad, not confront him, but hide. Sage would come running every few nights and tell Anemone to run. Over the years, the mousy girl had accumulated several hiding spots: a cabinet in the cellar, beneath Sage’s bed, under the kitchen sink. It wasn’t uncommon for it to be too late for Andie to hide, however, and have to run outside and spend the night at the cold night’s mercy.
Although the beatings come from her father’s hand, Anemone could never bring herself to hate him, but rather despise her mother instead. For leaving them, for destroying her perfect world. The perfect world where she had two loving parents, three happy brothers, friends at school who didn’t run away when she was wearing torn hand-me-downs and covered in purple bashes, and she didn’t have to spend the night sleeping in a cold alley with only a blanket of newspapers for warmth. Because she still loves her father and knows a faltering clinic would lead to their family’s downfall, Anemone has taken it upon herself to collect the healing herbs she knows he’ll need but can’t find means of obtaining from around the district. Over the years Andie became exceedingly talented at climbing ridiculous heights to gather fruits, nuts, seeds, or herbs from tree tops and was a master at identifying the edible from the healing to the toxic.
