Dandelion Miller District 12

Dani had brown hair that has a red tint to it that brought color to her pale and soot covered skin, the blue in her eyes was light almost white. She stands at about 5’7 and is skinny almost to the point of malnutrition. This makes her much defined cheek bones stand out, her cheeks sometimes a little sullen when she goes to long without food. This isn’t the situation most of the time though.

Her clothing is simple a shirt and skirt that maybe dirty but never show it. The clothing looks the color of coal soot. Shoes are worn from use holes showing and her feet bare calluses from running almost bare foot. Her hands have not been as damaged but hold cracks from the elements. She likes to dance and laugh which has created laugh lines by her mouth. Not a common thing to people who live in the Seam.

Dani doesn’t like to show her emotions unless they are happy ones. She sees sadness as a waste of time. Why spend one’s life sad when they could spend it happy, which means she tries to always cheer others up. When someone tries to talk about something sad she refuses to listen to them and runs away to a place where she can forget the whole situation. She loves children and tries to spend time with them as much as possible knowing they are happier than people her own age, must be their innocence.

Dani loves her family of three, her father the strong silent miner who she aspires to be like, how never shows his emotions, or complains about the things that bother him. Her mother who is always very caring, she doesn’t quite understand her mother’s caring for people who always bring her problems. Dani is so much like her father that now it is causing her to withdraw from people who got too close to her. She sees it as fewer problems that way. She will only care for others if it doesn’t get to emotional, but once it becomes too painful for her to deal with she removes herself from the relationship. Even distances herself from her family at times.

Dani Tends to be overly trusting knowing she will just leave when it gets hard to stay or once wronged. She would do anything for her friend Aisely and her siblings Pansy and Spruce. She finds they see the world like she does. Being so happy and care free even when so many bad things have happened to them and Aisely. She hopes she will never go into the hunger games fearing she would not be able to hold on to her happy place.

Dandelion had a twin her sister named Daisy who died when they were 13 in a mining accident. She and Daisy were bringing out their father lunch and were waiting to see him come out of the cave entrance. Dandelion was speaking to a friend and didn’t see Daisy walk into the cave. To this day Dani still doesn’t know what made Daisy go into the cave when they knew how dangerous it was. Soon Dani saw her Father walk toward her and kiss her forehead just before there was a cave in. Dani shrugged it off but her father started calling for Daisy. Soon they both started to call for her eventually someone came forward saying they saw Daisy enter the cave. Daisy’s body was never found.

Her father and mother were sad a long time but Dani was devastated. In her mind it was all her fault. She started to become depressed and angry, soon followed by a great need to join her sister where ever she was. She tried to kill herself but didn’t succeed and was soon taken to a healer. When she woke from a deep sleep she saw both her parents crying and even her dad was not his normal emotional rock. At that point she vowed to never try and take her own life again and to always bring happiness to her parents.

She soon started to practice this in her everyday life. School where people just thought she was weird, to people who were very dramatic even though she doesn’t like those type of people. One day she was walking home from school and she saw these two kids in her home. Her mother explained that the neighbor’s wife had just died and she said she would watch them for a while during the day to help out. Dani instantly fell in love with both of them and became friends with their older sister Aisely to get more time with them. When Aisely went into the hunger games she looked to her mother who said they would take care of Aisely’s siblings so Dani got to become a sister again.
