Age: 14
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 12
Appearance:
Jasmine has brown hair that is the color of tree’s bark in the surrounding forest of her district. Helped by her almost translucent skin which almost always has soot lightly dusting it, and her muddy brown eyes she fits into the background with the people of District 12. With her tiny frame of only 5’2” and so thin that she may very well be malnourished as she opts to give the majority of the food to her younger siblings instead of taking it herself. Her mother often refers to her as a pixie although she prefers to go by Jas or Jasmine instead of her full name, Jasminum.Personality:
Her clothing is simple as it is for most of the people where Jas is in residence, a shirt the color of coal soot and her pants the color of the soil beneath her feet. Her shoes are so worn that she usually prefers to go barefoot and run against the cool floor with her calloused covered feet. Her hands are surprisingly soft but do have the occasional scar here or there as does the rest of her body; the only major scar she has is on the right side of neck that she got from a fire burn after having an accidental run in with an unfriendly peacekeeper a few years back, but she usually covers it up with her long hair that comes to about mid-back.
Protective and defensive of her family are the two biggest ways to describe Jasmine. Ever since she was hurt by the peacekeepers, she tries to keep her younger siblings, Lucan and Keziah, away from harm and anyone that is really in with the Capitol or President Snow. She puts her emotions and own needs aside so that she can help her family because she loves them and would do literally anything for them. She has a fight or flight tendency and is only really close with her family, if someone at school tries to say something against her family they usually get a black eye and she gets a week worth of detention.History:
If Jasmine gets angry or frustrated it can either be dangerous or very productive, she tends to clean or just run when she gets like this and it has caused her feet to callous over the years, but be careful, if you run into her when she's like this it won't end well. She’s short tempered yet has a kind and caring heart when it comes to the people she loves. Jasmine loves her family of five very deeply and worries for them often, understandably as her father has a dangerous job in the mine and her mother is often sick and needs to be tended to most of the time. She also needs to look after the two twin terrors that are only nine years old and Jas is extremely grateful that they were not old enough to have their names be put in for the reaping during the Games.
Jasmine tends to avoid people that she doesn’t know or trust which is anyone that isn’t a part of her immediate family. She fears going into the Hunger Games but not because she is scared of death but because she is scared of what might happen to her family if she was even to leave for a couple weeks let alone for months, or forever. She wishes that Luc and Kez would never have to be pledges for the reaping but sadly she knows that in only three years they will be having their names put in and she can only pray that they will not be picked. Her family is her everything, you threaten them and you either end up pissing her off or you destroy her.
From the time Jasmine was four she wanted a little brother or sister and when she finally got them a year later she was ecstatic! But unfortunately when she turned eleven a few short years later she literally ran into a peacekeeper when she wasn’t paying attention. This peacekeeper was a grumpy guy roughly in his 30s and what Jasminum didn’t know was that he had been having a particularly bad week; when she tried to apologize it fell on deaf ears and the cruel punishment she got for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time, fell on blind yet sad eyes. After that Jas learned that the world wasn’t the happy place that she lived in with her friends and family like she thought it was, she learned very quickly as her eyes opened to the angry world. Sure she knew that money was tight most of the time and she would quickly give up her bread for her siblings or her sickly mother, but she never believed that people could ever be that cruel.Codeword: <img src="http://i41.tinypic.com/16h2ibt.png">
As she continued to attend her school she got bullied for the ugly scar that she got from her punishment with the peacekeeper, but the thing that hurt the most was that whenever this happened, the people she thought was her friends ended up turning a blind eye as well and it was the incident in the Market all over again. Eventually the people she once called friends were laughing with everyone else and some even started pushing her around; soon she got sick of it and just faded into the background, but that didn’t quite stop it, whenever they saw her they would call her vulgar names and push her around, maybe through a few hits but never had they ever said a word against her family until last year. Last year was when things really started to get bad and she began to shelter her family, especially her brother and sister, from what was really going on outside the house concerning the Capitol or anything to do with President Snow, and the only one that knew differently from what she convinced them of was her dad who never spoke of it as he knew the affect the peacekeeper had on her when she was a child and that she was only trying to protect her family from that ever happening to them.
Now, at fourteen years of age Jasminum takes on side jobs to help pay for her families meals. Sometimes she’ll look after the neighbour’s kid as he goes to work, other times she’ll weed gardens or haul coal for an elderly. In times like these money isn’t just tossed around so sometimes she’ll get a couple tomatoes from the lady she weeds the garden for, maybe a couple pieces of coal to toss into the fire for the night, and if she’s really fortunate she can get some bread or cheese from the baker that owns the little goat if she does a nice job cleaning up the bakery that week. Jas does what she can to help out her family, and although her school life is still much the same as it was years ago it has become much more bearable knowing that she can help put some food on the table for her family as she tries to get enough to trade for medicine for her constantly sick mother. She tries her hardest to help her family and stay out of trouble but sometimes, trouble just seems to seek her out, usually in the form of a peacekeeper or a schoolmate.
