Sallacia Crystal was born and raised in the Seam of District 12 so, like many other people from her area, she has a warm olive skin tone which appears pearly in the sun and long straight dark hair which she ties into a high pony tail each day with a bright green ribbon which her Mother gave her when she was born. Unlike other people though, Sallacia's eyes are a mystery to most people as she has one blue and one grey eye (known as Heterochromia iridum). Also, on her left cheek is a large scar from when she fell against the stove when she was a little girl as she was left unattended when her parents were called to the mines. As for height, Lacey stands at 5ft 4inchs which is considered to be petite for a girl of her age. Like most other people in her district, Sallacia is underfed due to lack of money and resources, and weighs only six stones and seven pounds. Luckily, Sallacia was not destined to be a big boned tall girl so she hides the fact that she is so underweight by the way that her shoulders are only half the size of her brothers and the top of her head only comes to her brother's chest.

When dressed, Lacey wears a pair of brown leggings, some old hunting boots which belonged to her Mother when she was Sallacia's age, a loose fitting plum coloured tunic and a waistcoat which belongs to her Father and is a lot to big for her. This is all that Sallacia has to wear and she tries her hardest to keep it clean and look presentable when at school and around the district. On reaping day, Sallacia and her older brother Ahmet wear their best clothes. Lacey wears a thin cotton dress that her Mother had made for her when she was twelve. It is a pretty lemon yellow and fits to her figure just as it did three years ago. For that one day, Sallacia's mother washes her hair in a herb serum which makes it silky and lie around her face perfectly. This is the one day that she wears her hair down around her face.

Personality:

Due to being brought up in the Seam, Sallacia always feels that she needs to protect both herself and her family alike. Although she has her brother to protect her most of the time, Sallacia finds herself on edge with most people she talks to. Unless she knows the person well, Lacey ends most sentences in an interrogative manner and usually leaves the person on the receiving end just as uneasy as her.

Another of Lacey's personality traits is that she becomes frustrated to easily and finds herself becoming angry when she is confused by something. Although Lacey is extremely bright, if something gets in her way, she prefers to squash it rather than find another way around it. Most people at her school feel intimidated by her as she starts fights with even the biggest kids. Concealed in her pocket, she keeps an arrowhead that she took from her brother when she was young. The pointed tip is sharp but with her strength, hardly any damage is done unless she carries her brother's bow with her. Yes, the fights do not always end well and she usually takes a trip to her next door neighbor after school to be cleaned up with a bloody nose.

Yes, maybe Sallacia sounds like someone that no one would want to know but she is sweet underneath, really! When she is alone with her family, Sallacia sings to comfort them and when the days get really bad, she sings in the Hob so that everyone can hear. Although most people would be nervous about being in front of an audience, Sallacia feels at ease and does not need to be tense. The only time Lacey is really herself is when her eyes are closed and she is singing.

History:

Sallacia's family are not big and rich but they are happy with what they have and are lucky that a collapsing mine did not destroy one of them. As she is only fifteen, Sallacia goes to school but is hoping to become a healer when she is slightly older and more able.

Mr Crystal is a large man who, like Ahmet her brother is prone to getting into trouble with the Peacemakers. Bother Ahmet and Sallacia's Father were beaten in the streets for hunting in the woods when the west side of the Seam were experiencing a particularly bad winter. Luckily, Ahmet has never been caught again as he just about manages to get under the fence but her Father was not so lucky. He now suffers from a bad back after getting electrocuted five years ago. Now, Sallacia's Father helps to man the mines and instructs the men, telling them their daily timetable and helping to sort out everything after a days work.

The family now relies on Ahmet's ability to illegally hunt in the woods without being caught again. Instead of him working down the mines, Ahmet has managed to live without a job until now as he is eighteen and it is his last year to be a part of the Hunger Games. Ahmet is the main source of income for the Crystal family as he manages to sell and trade his catch with all different types of people both from the Seam and the Merchant area. Although he does no bring in much money, the family have just enough to eat and get them through the year.

Sallacia's mother is a seamstress who trades in the Hob. She makes and repairs clothes in exchange for food and a little money. Some of the wealthy people come to her as she is amazing with a needle and although this helps, it is not enough to run the family.

As far as childhood goes in the Seam, Sallacia's was bright. Her Mother and Father know how to play the prettiest tunes on an old guitar they made when they made when they were young. Some days, when Sallacia and Ahmet were only children, her parents would take them for days in the forest where they would find a quiet place and sing all day long. At that time, neither Lacey nor Ahmet knew much about their future and took to play fighting with sticks. Neither of them knew that in years to come, it may not have been pretend anymore. When Sallacia got a little older, her brother and Father would teach Sallacia's how to use a bow and arrow as they said that it was the ladylike thing to use. She was never as good as her brother but is learning quickly. One day, her brother push a sharp stone into her hand and spoke to her 'Your mind is as sharp as this and soon your aim will be too!'. She looked down and found the arrowhead.
