Aven Wyndhelm : District 11 [FINISHED]

Aven is a small girl with her muscles from the farm work visible but not overbearing. She's a mere 5'2 and has short black hair that almost reaches her shoulder, but not quite. She is definitely small because of the limited amount of food that her districts receives. Her skin is a light tan from working out in the fields but her family has always obtained that hard to tan skin so she's not as dark as the others in her district.

Aven has dark brown eyes and a childlike smile. In fact, her looks, particularly her stature, make her seem younger than she actually is. She has two big front teeth but they seem to somehow add to her childlike charm. She has burn scars that trail from her left wrist up to her shoulder. This is what she calls a permanent symbol of her stupidity when she knocked over an oil lantern and nearly set her families entire house ablaze.

She is usually seen wearing a simple dark black tank top and tan boy cargo shorts. She wears an antique, slightly rusted, silver skeleton key around her neck on a black cord, given to her by her older brother.

Aven is definitely a troublemaker. Her sarcasm is so fluid that people who are around her can hardly tell the difference between when she is being serious or joking. She can keep a straight face through almost anything. Everything is usually a joke to her. If she explains how to do something, you half wonder if secretly she is standing behind you laughing while you attempt to do as she said, only to find out she told you wrong on purpose.

She despises school and displays a cautious disregard for rules. She toes the line just so. Aven would never want anyone to know she actually is terrified of being caught doing something seriously wrong. To be punished by the Capitol in even a small way is something she does not mess with. Especially living in District 11, where the crime can be small but the punishment large. Little pranks, such as, a water bucket over a door or loosening all the apples on a tree in such a careful way that when you pick one, they all come crashing down on your head, is usually as far as she goes and even this is done with people she knows would never turn her in. Her family is usually the victim's in her childish pranks. Although, Aven is extremely careful in all the aspects of her life. This, she tries to hide about herself.

She is not quiet and loves to talk. She loves to be the center of attention, preferably a good laugh, even if that laugh is at her expense. Despite her seemingly warm personality, Aven is a closed book. She can tip toe around questions and she gets close to no one. She is extremely independent and the trust issues she has run deep. To open up Aven is quite the accomplishment. Though there isn't anyone who really has other than her mother, whom Aven has recently shut down completely from as well. You would never guess this to know her though. She is one of those people who you think you know everything about, but in reality, know nothing.

Aven has undeniable and utter love and appreciation for the arts, though never has taken any opportunity to find where her talent in one may lie.

Aven has no close friends, though she is not largely disliked by anyone. She loves to talk and can strike up a good conversation with anyone in the orchard or in town. This usually can get her a warm smile or a nice wave. She comes off as optimistic, always good for a laugh, which has her someone people enjoy talking to. But Aven is not close with any of them.

To pick someone she trusted the most, though still is careful with, would be her eldest brother. Aven still is careful with him though, never revealing how she really feels about any particular subject they talk about. However, she admires him deeply for the way he has cared for the family and who he is as a person.

At the worst of times, Aven is stubborn, sarcastic and obnoxious. With her wit and sarcasm she can insult someone as vicious as a Tracker Jacker can sting. She also seems to judge readily and make anyone near her the victim of jokes, harsh or not. This usually has people peg her as a bit mean or harsh before they truly know her. Her anger usually involves something being broken. She is also absolutely terrified of fire due to her incident with knocking over an oil lantern.

Aven, named for the white Aven flower, grew up with a pretty standard, hard life in District 11. Her family was always low on food and she definitely knew how to be hungry. When you live in district 11 it is unavoidable. She lives with her older brother, Rory, and her parents in a one bedroom, tiny wooden house. She shares the living room with her brother. Her parents always have worked with the grain in the fields but her brother and her were always in the orchards. Aven adores trees and being up high, where she can see everything.

Her parents seemed happy enough together, or nothing was questioned until she turned eleven and her mother claimed she no longer loved her father. Aven saw this as abandonment to the entire family when her mother walked out, leaving her father and her as well as her older brother. Aven is livid at her mother for this. This is where Aven's trust issues have begun. She was so close with her mother, told her everything. Her mother did the same with her, but never did her mother mention anything other than love when it came to her father. Aven felt betrayed and lied to and has since shut herself down. She still has no idea why her mother left. Only the claim of no longer loving her father. Her mother lives with another man in the district now and though Rory visits regularly, Aven herself refuses to see her and has for years.

Rory has been taking care of Aven since she was born since her father was not the type to do much more than attempt to get food on the table. Aven has never been particularly close with anyone, even in her family, but when her mother left, Rory was the one she clung to. Her father was not the type to show much of any emotion and even when his wife left he was indifferent and quiet. Mostly, he has shut down the same way Aven has, though, it seems he has done so long before. After all, things are not easy here.

Rory made an attempt at winning his younger sister's full trust by giving her a key to a box he's had since he was a little boy. It is stashed underneath most of his things and he claimed she would find what meant most to him in it. Aven never opened the box. She wears the key around her neck instead. Aven fears that by allowing her to see his most prized possession, she would have to open up to Rory completely and that scares her. Instead, she avoids the situation, but likes having the key close because it reminds her that he is always there should she really need him

Rory has never been chosen for the Hunger Games. At the age of 21 now, he never will be. Aven however, is terrified of them. Every reaping she has been through has her shaking uncontrollably like a leaf. She gets so worked up that usually after the reaping she ends up vomiting outside her home. Rory worries that if chosen for the games, Aven could develop an anxiety that would hardly allow her to stand, let alone fight. He fears for her like no other and counts down the days until she will no longer be able to have her name pulled.
