Appearance:
Mercedes is your average ginger - blue eyes, freckled skin and the carrot-colored hair. Though, unless in the clear light of the sun, her freckles aren't very visible. Her face is heart-shaped with a defined jaw line, a long, small nose and large, thin lips. Her lips have a natural rosy color to them, and it appears she may be wearing lipstick when she isn't. Often showing with slightly open lips are her two front teeth. As a child, she had bucked teeth, but she began to grow into them as she got older.
Her body, though, is rather too thin. She doesn't have a defined shape or any curves like your average capitol woman, but she has long legs, with naturally smooth skin, and lanky arms. The skin on her arms and legs are slightly lighter than her face, being overly pale. On her arms, she has pale, thin hairs that aren't very visible unless one looks closely. Speaking of hair, Mercedes's hair is very unique - everything from the volume, color and length is unique to her. The color is rather a natural bright orange with slightly darker tones that appear in the middle of a cold winter. The volume is very wavy, and it seems to frizz in the cold weather also. Finally, the length of her hair is halfway down her back, dipping just below the waistline. Split ends rest on the tips of her thick locks of hair, but she rather doesn't care.
Mercedes doesn't often try to make herself appear prettier, and she almost never tries to brush her tangles of waves. Her appearance doesn't really matter to her most of the time, but she always tries to take a regular bathing in one of the rivers close to her family's farm.
Personality:
Mercedes can appear small and weak at first glance, but unlike her body, her mind is as strong as steel. Being as stubborn as ever, she hates it when others try to tell her how to do things like she's a child. Mercedes believes she should be treated like an adult, because she knows how to care for her family, and often gets most of the household chores done around the house. She can seem very stuck up and independent sometimes, while others she is very vulnerable and upset. Mercedes may appear bipolar at times, having tantrums with unknown causes or switching emotions quicker than one could see. She has strong opinions on things such as the Peacekeepers, District thirteen and the President himself.
Mercedes is one who supports the capitol. Being brainwashed in school by the teachers and the capitol, she doesn't understand the true nature of what occurs during the Hunger Games. She supports the president, also, though she sometimes thinks his decisions get a little out of hand. It's practically the way she sees boys - they're idiots. Mercedes isn't the type of girl who goes around, easily falling for the boy with a handsome face and large muscles. For her to like or love another human being, she must get to know them very well, to the point where she's trapped in the friend zone.
When it comes to Mercedes's family, she can be a bit overprotective. Her little brothers are her life, and she wouldn't trade them for all the food in the capitol. When her siblings are feeling sick, one would find her doing all their chores and hers. Being the eldest sibling of four children, she's learned she has to protect them in any way she can - she harvests food on her own in the fall, she trades her vegetables and farm food for clothing, household supplies, etc., even when she's not supposed to. Though it may not seem so at first, her heart is always in the right place when it comes to others.

Lucifer Fortrose married Bunny Vaer-Fortrose in the wintertime during the 40th Hunger Games on Lucifer's average-sized farm in District 10. The couple wasn't near rich, but they made a living off of the vegetables and livestock they bred cared for. Five years into their marriage, Bunny became pregnant with her first child, who they named Mercedes. The little girl had more of her mother's independent personality, and would always try to do things on her own; she never wanted help with potty training, walking or reading. As Mercedes grew into her sixth year of age, she began attending schooling.
Mercedes began to be brainwashed by the capitol the minute she entered the classroom. She would support the Hunger Games when they came, because she was too young to understand the reality of it. During the year Mimi turned six, her mother gave birth to another child -- this time, a baby boy who Bunny decided to name Jerome. Through all the stress of caring to the needs of two children, Bunny Vaer-Fortrose was surprised to find that she was once again pregnant. Mercedes loved her first little brother, and was always asking her mother when the baby would arrive.
By the time Mercedes turned ten, she had a total of three siblings - Jerome, Caligula and Thompson. Jerome was four, Caligula was three and Thompson was only a newborn. Her mother, though, hadn't made it through the birth of her final child, and died of placenta complications. Though, being the eldest female now in the house, Mercedes often helped her father with the farming, cooking and cleaning around the house. When her father had to go out to the feilds to help the newborn calves or pluck the carrots from the ground, Mercedes was always there to help her little brothers. She soon became their mother figure, and she was determined to keep strong, no matter how upset she was from her mother's death.
When it came time for Mimi to enter the reaping, she was scared to death. She didn't want to leave her family behind, and most of all -- she didn't want to die so young. When she didn't get reaped the first year, she had this sense of relief -- that everything was going to be fine. For the next few years, she would often go out to a small opening in the forest and speak up at the clouds to her mother. She would ask for advice, for help with school, how to take care of he brothers, and even though she never got an answer, she knew her mother would always be with her.
