Gavin Doherty
It's windy today. The clouds have covered the clear blue sky, leaving a layer of smoky wisps lingering in sight. I never liked the color blue anyways. I consider sky blue to be way too bright for someone like me. That color symbolizes hope, whereas I have no more hope left.
Sucks to be me I guess.
I've just left the Training Center, more defeated than ever. Sure, I can throw a spear better than most, and my sword skills are nothing to laugh at, but to be the best, I must beat the one person standing in my way.
Nila must be conquered.
That good-for-nothing brat of mine. Why does she get all the attention? Just because she ran a wee bit faster than me? Because she ducked out of the way when I blocked dad's attacks with my arm?
No matter, soon my family will see what they've missed out on. I'm going to be in those Hunger Games next year. And I'm going to win. So take that father, who's the prodigy now? Not Nila. The mommy-killer.
The air blows my hair all over the place. Great, now I'll have to find a bathroom when I get inside. But at least it lowers the temperature quite a bit.
I realize that I'm just randomly wandering all over town. I know my way around this District, but still. It's a little weird to not immediately know where you're headed. But it's nice, it shows that I'll be the one who takes care of myself. I'm independent, unlike Nila, who just runs to daddy with every little problem. Bitch.
I make my way to a small shop in the middle of town. It's called a café. It actually is the closest thing to a restaurant that we have here in District 4. Restaurants are ancient. Not even the Capitol has them. But still, the atmosphere is nice.
The floor is a dark cherry-like color, only browner. The walls are a warm gold, and the small chandelier dangling in the middle of the building shimmers, its glass crystals radiating rainbow rays of light in every direction.
I'm a bit peckish, so I'll get something to eat. I got paid for work yesterday, so I have money. At least, enough to keep me going for a few weeks. This place is cheap.
"Yo."
I gesture to a waiter. He greets me with a smile. Stupid pretender. I know that he doesn't want to talk to me. I want to punch that smile right off his face. But technically, I've got no logical reason to do so.
"I'll have the shrimp, extra gravy." I growl.
"R-r-r-right, I mean, right away sir, it'll just take a few moments."
He quickly rushes off into the kitchen. All is quiet now. There are few people here, for it's before lunch hour.
So I can sit wherever I want. I choose a seat by the bar. I can see the ocean from the window across from me. The waves are quickly rising. Rain will come soon. But not now, in a few hours. Then the fish will jump, and the fisherman will have a field day.
Good, I'd like to see some entertainment.
