Appearance:
There aren't many things that makes Augustus Mandell physically stand out from the other people in his District. His curly brown hair is cut short, almost nearly buzzed and his white skin is a brown from working on his fathers ranch his entire life. His eyes always seems to be looking at some place far off, even if he is staring you right in the eyes. Instead of having brown eyes like his parents, he has a ocular condition called Heterochromia, making his left eye icy blue and the right eye a light shade of brown. Augustus usually walks around with a big, crooked smile on his face. Looks wise, he isn't some handsome looking god, but he is good looking enough to have caught the eye of more then one women in his District.Personality:
He has freckles sprinkled across his face, most of the residing on his nose. Augustus' nose is slightly crooked after it being broken while working with a particularly rebellious stallion who didn't wanted to be gelded. After years of working on the ranch his father is in charge of, Augustus' upper body strength is of excellent shape. His hands are worn and callused and his nails are rarely ever clean. His legs are long and skinny and his feet are disproportional to the rest of his body. Augustus has problems with having correct posture and sometimes slouches when he sits.He is around 5'11 and weighs around 150 pounds.slouches when he sits.
Augustus Mandell isn't actually that bad of a person. He tries to help out people who are in trouble, but he won't stick out his neck for people he doesn't trust fully or people who he doesn't know. He has an excessive pride problem where he makes it almost to the point of OCD that he keeps his word to anything from a bet or a threat. He is vulgar sometimes and believes that not all things in his life need to be taken seriously. He isn't entirely a saint all the time and is known to have bouts of sarcasm. When Augustus was a child, his parents rammed the idea into his head that family is important and blood is thicker then anything.History:
Augustus rarely gets angry and when confronted with someone who is angry at him, he plays it cool and keeps his emotions in check. If physically confronted, though, all hell will break loose. Augustus' father raised him to be what many would call the "proper gentleman". In many ways, this effects how Augustus talks and treats women. He believes that all women should would be treated with respect. This trait was only amplified more when Augustus' mother died of a brain aneurysm when he was 14.
Because of working and being around animals his entire life, Augustus has a fondness towards all animals, especially horses. His love for animals doesn't interfere with his social skills and Augustus is actually a people person. He enjoys talking to people just as much as he enjoys spending time with his fathers horses. He doesn't prefer one species over the other and loves to interact with both animals and humans, though he has made the odd habit of talking to his favourite horses when he is alone.
Born into one of the more better off families in District 10, Augustus has lived a life in which he never had to worry about anything. He has always had enough food, albeit not the best quality, but enough so that he never went to bed hungry. The reason of this is that his father, Darin Mandell, is the boss of a Capitol owned ranch. The ranch is used to produce cattle and as well as the some of the horses that pull the chariots for The Hunger Games. Because of having close ties to the Capitol, Augustus doesn't necessarily hate the Capitol for the Games, but disapproves of them.Codeword: Odair
Augustus is the only child of Darin and Lucy Mandell. Because of his family's social status as being one of the "elite" in his District, Augustus has had trouble making friends with the kids of other, less fortunate family's. Since the age of 10, Augustus has been working as a ranch hand and a groom in the stables. Darin was training Augustus the tricks of the trade so that one day he could take over the ranch.
Yes, everything in Augustus' life was picture perfect, which was nearly impossible for many people of Panem to say. That is, until his mother died of a brain aneurysm. It was sudden and took Augustus and his father off guard. Augustus was able to recover, though he was deeply affected by the loss of his mother, but his father never fully recovered. Before the time Augustus had finished his training, Darin was totally lost and started drinking heavily. Augustus had to take over the ranch at the age of 17, before all of his training was complete. Luckily, Augustus learned on the job and has become as good a rancher as his father was. Dealing with his fathers increasing alcoholism problem and the job of running the ranch, Augustus hasn't been able to interact with anyone except his employees and his father.
