Milcha Lowland District 10

Milcha has coconut-brown hair that falls over her shoulders. Most of the time she ties it up to a ponytail. She has grey eyes, the right one is a bit lighter. Her skin is quite tanned, sometimes even sunburned because she spends a lot of time outside. Because her parents are farmers, she is not very rich, so she wears simple clothes like a loose fitting pair of trousers and a black t-shirt. At home she does not wear any shoes because they will only get dirty or damaged.

Milcha is 1.69m tall and weighs around 39kg. Because she sits down during school and most of the time at work, she has a lack of physical exercise which causes her to be skinny and weak. She has long legs, but she isn’t able to run fast because her legs aren’t strong. Milcha smells like the farm she’s lived on her whole life. She is used to the smell, but to some of her richer, non-farmer classmates she smells awful

Milcha is a sweet girl, who is often lost in her own thoughts. Because of that she may not talk much, so a lot of people who don’t know her will think she’s a loner or a bit weird. Once they get to know her better they’ll notice that she is the kind of girl that loves being surrounded by friends and family. She loves to help others, even if it’s just a bit. When she has finished her home at work she sometimes help some of her neighbors with some things. They think of her as an helpful, kind girl.

Milcha can sometimes be a bit over reactive. Especially if things don’t go the way she wants it to go. She is not someone who likes to make decisions at the last moment. She’s afraid to disappoint her family and feels guilty about a lot of things. Even if she didn’t even cause them. She’ll then keep saying sorry till she drives the other person crazy. That often results in her apologizing even more.

Milcha has milked the cows at her parents farm at the age of 10, so she has a kind of special relations ship with those animals. A couple of years ago her father learned how to make cheese out of the milk. Normally most of the milk and products made from milk has to be sent straight to the Capitol, but as their farm grew, which means more cows and other animals, they could keep more of the products themselves. Milcha hates eating meat. Of course it doesn’t often occur that her family has meat to eat because it’s expensive, but sometimes when a lot of male calves are born her parents slaughter one to eat. (they can’t do anything with bulls as they don’t give milk) It makes Milcha sick thinking she’ll eat one of the calves of her cows. Even her hunger can’t compete with this feeling. She also doesn’t like eating meat from other animals, but she can stand it better than the idea of eating (her) cows.

Milcha lives with her parents, 20 year old brother and two little sisters who are 13 and 9 years old. They live near the centre of district 10, but it is still quite a long walk because there are so many farmlands surrounding their own farm. The farm of her parents is mainly specialized in cows; reproduction and milk products, but they also poses some other animals like chickens and a sheep. Because most of the products have to be transported to the Capitol immediately they don’t have much left for themselves. Especially because they don’t get a fair price for their things. However, (as stated in the personality part) the farm has grown the last couple of years which made it possible for the family to drink their own milk and make some milk products and to keep some of the eggs from the chickens.

Milcha has had a bad eye since birth, but she keeps it secret from everyone. Even from her youngest sister she normally tells everything. She is sure her parents wouldn’t allow her to help on the farm anymore, even if that would mean they earned less. They believe that people with a handicap should not work because they could only mess things up. As Milcha wants her family as much as she can, she doesn’t want them to find out. When Milcha was younger, her handicap was a real treat to her. Her eye isn’t completely blind, which makes her sight very foggy. Along with her dreamy attitude, she often tripped or bumped against things or other people. Her parents were ashamed of her and tried to keep her inside as much as possible. But as Milcha grew older, she learned to look only with her good eye and to use her ears to locate where people were. As soon as her parents noticed that she could walk steady, they allowed her to work on the farm, they thought it was just a way to get attention. Milcha was of course happy about this, but she grew a fear of disappointing her parents.

Because they were poor, Milcha had to sign up for Tesserea. That means that her name has already 35 entries in the Hunger Games. She’s never been scared that she’ll chosen as tribute, because she knows that there are a lot of other girls with big families in her district that need to do the same. Thanks to her entries and the growth of their farm the last years her two younger sisters do not have to sign up for Tesserea. Milcha isn’t jealous of them, she is actually proud that thanks to her entries her younger sisters are safe. Well, at last safer than most children. The last thing she wants is that someone she loves would have to participate in the Hunger Games. If she had a choice, she would chose to never have children so they would be safe. But of course something like that is not likely to happy, as she propably will marry and have to work hard for the rest of her life. And children can only help.
