Name: Papaya "Yaya" Frumbee
Age: Sixteen
District: Eleven
Appearance
Papaya, known affectionately by family and friends as "Yaya," has always been told she is pretty. Her skin is lightly tanned by the sun in the summer, and in the winter it takes on a more alabaster hue. She has a carefree air about her, reflected in the light colors she wears and the constant smile on her face. She has brown hair that curls when it's long, and stays straight when it's short. Sometimes she tries to do something with her hair, put it up in a pony or a bun, but it never works. Sometimes she forgets to brush her hair, and adding that to her split ends makes her sometimes appear frazzled.
The brown of her eyes is so dark a hue that it almost blends into the pupil. She has long, delicate arms and fingers, and moves gracefully without really trying. She can often be found barefoot, even in the winter, so the soles of her feet are very tough. She hates wearing shoes, or anything on her feet. More than once she has been scolded by her mother for ruining a perfectly good dress with grass or food stains. She's a bit of a messy eater, and odds are that at some point in the day, part of her meal will end up on her clothes. She never seems to pay any notice to the stains on her clothing, as she is always staring off into the distance.
Personality
The first word that comes into anyone's mind when they think of Yaya is dreamy. It seems that she always has her head up in the clouds. She never pays much attention to what's right in front of her, preferring to stay inside her own head. She's rather forgetful, and not very responsible. She often shows up late to work her shift at the family restaurant, if she shows up at all. On top pf that, she gets people's orders wrong on a regular basis, but always tried to correct it with an apologetic smile.
Yaya is sensitive, a bit too much so, and if anyone yells at her (for example, if she gets their order wrong), she's likely to start crying. She'll also cry if she sees a wounded or dead animal. She hates seeing starving children in the street, and at the end of the day, she often goes out and gives them the leftovers from the restaurant. Most of her time is spent out in the fields, just watching people work, or daydreaming. Occasionally she'll bring a sketch pad with her and draw. When she draws, she draws anything she can see - the horizon, a bird, a blade of grass, a piece of trash. She isn't very good, but she enjoys drawing anyway, and sometimes she'll produce something good enough that her father will hang it in the restaurant.
In general, she gets along well with other people. Talking isn't hard for her, and she can always find something to say. She's pretty oblivious when it comes to love. If someone's flirting with her, she doesn't realize it, and if someone asks her out on a date, she'll assume they just want to go on an outing with her, and she'll invite a friend or sibling along.
History
Yaya is the second of four children born to the Frumbee family. All of them, their parents decided, should be named after fruit. Her father owns a small restaurant, called Papa Frumbee's. They serve the usual burgers and fries, but specialize in smoothies and fruit pies made by his wife. Growing up, Yaya never went hungry, and there was no lack of love. Despite her father being a busy man, she was always close to him, as well as her mother. In fact, the entire family is very close, and rarely hesitate to tell the others something.
There has been little hardship in Yaya's life. She was a good student at school, and if her grades were a little poor, it was only because she spent just a bit too much time staring out the window. The only time she can remember being really sad is when she was nine and her pet cat, Mittens, died. She hasn't had a pet since then, but she sometimes takes in wounded animals and nurses them back to health before releasing them. Her parents don't want her to have any full-time pets, because they're secretly afraid that she'll forget to feed it and it will die.
When she turned thirteen, she started helping out at Papa Frumbee's. Even though she sometimes forgot to show up, her father made her keep working, partly because he needed the help, and partly because he hoped it would make her more responsible. Most of the time she works as a waitress, but when she has to, she goes in back and helps her mother bake pies and pastries. She hasn't been allowed to work the grill since she got distracted by a starving cat in the alley and nearly started a fire.
If you asked, Yaya would say she has a very good life. She has clothes, food, and a happy family. She's never had to suffer the agony of watching someone she loves go into the Hunger Games and not come out alive. She has few cares in her life, and even fewer worries, and she hopes it will stay that way.odair
