Eitan,
"Serra Helms!" The mayor announces.
My feet feel like led weights glued to the ground. I look for her in the crowd of kids, when I finally find her I see the hopeless look on her face. That's when my feet start to work again, I push my way through the crowd trying to get closer. A couple Peacekeepers pull her towards the stage, I squeeze through the last bit of people. I make eye contact with her and I see the terror in those blue eyes of hers. I am finally free of the crowd now, I'm at a full sprint, closing the gap between us. She's nearing the stairs, when the first Peacekeeper notices me. He bars my way, In a flash of movement I punch him, and he topples to the ground holding his face in his hands. I keep going trying reach her. However, before I can I'm being pinned to the ground by two Peacekeepers, a third Peacekeeper pulls a knife and smiles, there's a flash of steel and then everything goes dark.
I wake with a start, just another dream, it was just a memory. I try to forget and go on with my day, but this memory haunts my thoughts for the rest of the day.
Hell, that's what district 10 is, I've been trying to find the right word. There isn't a better word for it. Its bleak, hopeless and all we do all day is math. How could it get worse? The only up-side is that its quiet, geeks don't talk much. Ever since Serra died there's nothing in district 10 that makes me want to stay.
District 10 isn't very flashy, every house is mostly the same, even the people are a lot alike. So when I decide to take a walk to the district square, I try to spot the differences in the houses.
"Ooph," This sound escapes me when I slam into someone. I guess probably deserved it, I mean that's what get for being absent minded.
