The moment the twig cracked, she whipped around, pulled her right arm back, and swiftly let go, eyeing the bow as it flew effortlessly through the air, hitting a deer Kayla hadn't even seen. Kayla smirked. She felt no compassion for the deer. You aren't careful, you pay the price, she thought as she tiptoed towards the dead deer, making as little noise as was possible. The deer seemed very simply, very average, female, but it looked to young to have children. That was one thing she felt good about. She hadn't just torn a child from it's mother. Like that bear had done to her brother.
She bit her lip, narrowed her eyes, and kneeled over the deer, expertly pulling out the arrow and beginning to adjust it's body for carrying. It was quite the find, but she'd have to wait for a couple more catches before she could trade for grains or starches. Her family needed food, whatever it was. She was indeed preoccupied with her preparing, but not enough to become distracted. She never got distracted, not from life threatening things. She paused for a moment, the silence pressing down upon her ears worse than loud noise would have done. She tried humming, but the only song she knew seemed to be hummed in monotone, so she stopped. She listened. Someone was there. She could sense it. She expertly drew her bow and snatched the arrow that had been used to kill the deer, drawing her weapon. "Show yourself!" she called out. If nobody, or nothing was there, then nobody would have heard her odd display. She paused, not hearing anything. [/ul] ---------------------------------------------
