The replays always came on so late. Clarisse turned her head towards the clock and saw the hands. Nine o'clock at night. Serenity had left an hour ago due to her curfew. From the other room, she heard the sound of the capitol's anthem cueing that the replay was starting. Clarisse finished making the chocolate milk, and grabbed the two glasses and a bag of chips before making her way into her living room.
Veronica was sitting on the couch in front of the television. Clarisse never thought it was a good idea to let Veronica watch the games and often insisted that she didn't, but she always did. She always had her face glued to the television when it came on. The edge of the table caused Clarisse to stumble and almost drop everything as she came to sit down next to her friend. She put the drinks on the table and pushed one over to Veronica. She set the chips on the side.
"I got these for us, honey." She smiled at Veronica and then pulled her feet up onto the couched with her, so she was leaning a bit towards her friend. Clarisse was in her pajamas, long sweat pants and a t-shirt, and had her hair in a pony tail, pieces of it falling out at weird angles. Her parents were stuck in the lab and said they might not come home tonight. Which meant she had been forced to make dinner. Which in turn had resulted in disaster.
The games came on, showing who was on the island, and the twist. Like always, Clarisse added her commentary. "Oh my god. They're going for a second bloodbath." She glanced over at Veronica. Jango was still alive at this point. In the final 8. But who knew what would happen after this battle. Where the only way to get supplies was to fight.
The drink was lifted into the air and brought to her mouth with her hand. Maybe she had put too much chocolate syrup in. It didn't matter though. They had been able to afford the syrup, so she was going to enjoy it. She took her eyes from the screen to take the time to open the bag of chips and stuff some it her mouth before she put it in Veronica's lap, hoping she would eat some.
When the Games caught her attention again, the majority of the tributes had finally met up and were attacking the boy that had been with Shanks. The first act of the final eight betrayal. Clarisse's stomach became queasy. The girl called Drusilla ended his life in one swipe of her falchion, and Clarisse was worried she might throw up the chips she just ate.
