Kayden sighed as she checked her last trap and it came up empty. She hadn't found any game in the forest all day, and as such, she was making her way back to the fence empty handed. She hadn't shot a single thing all day, and so she had a full quiver, an empty stomach, and an even emptier pack. And now she would have to go tell Anna that she wouldn't be able to have more than couple bites of bread for dinner.

As she reached the fence, she dropped down to her stomach to wriggle her way under the chain-link, pulling herself under the fencing with apparent ease. That is, until the hem of her shirt caught on the bottom of the fence, tearing the shirt beyond repair. Kayden swore quietly to herself, "Frick! I liked this shirt too...[/color]" She had only to pull her knife from its sheath on her hip and cut the grey t-shirt off, leaving her with nothing but her black, spaghetti strap tank top on underneath. She would rather lose a shirt than have to deal with the peacemakers. She had been hunting on capital land after all.

After pulling herself under the fence successfully and re-sheathing the knife, she brushed some dirt from her dark-wash jeans and wiped a hand on her cheek to try and get some dirt off, but only managed to smudge it, expanding the area it covered. "Fantastic. Just fantastic.[/color]"

With that, she paused there, looking around to make sure that the coast was clear so she could go home to the sad, hungry faces of her mother and her sister.[/center][/size][/blockquote]

Crysanthemum Martins watched, head tilted to the side, as the girl struggled with the fence and eventually came back into the district. Honestly speaking, it hadn't been that long since Crys herself had come over from the other side of the fence. She'd stuck around, though, to pick some of the summer wildflowers for her little sister, who seemed to have a love affair with plant life. Little Ivy could make anything grow, and she loved flowers. So Crys made a point to keep one of the dinged up mugs full of flowers of every color when the season allowed for it.

The girl sat on the ground, her lap full of the flowers she'd picked. She had had plenty for a while, but shear exhaustion had kept her down. Crys rarely allowed herself a rest, and sitting for a moment to pick the wildflowers had reminded her how tired she was lately. She'd disconnected herself from the people she'd run with in the woods after Kale had died in the Hunger Games. It was weird, being in the forest without her group of friends. At times it was both easier and harder. Easier, because she was back to only worrying about herself. Easier because when it was only her, silence was easier to obtain, and less game was scared off. Harder, because she had to readjust to being alone. Harder, because she no longer has someone else to watch her back. Harder, because she couldn't deny that she missed them, even if it was her own choice to avoid them. Readjusting to it was taxing, especially with everything else she had to take care of.

As the other girl checked her surroundings, Crys waited for her to realize that she was there. If she weren't in her hunting clothing the other girl probably would have spotted her right away, even from the edge of the forest. There was simply no hiding her flaming red hair. As it was, though, Crys had tucked her entire head of hair inside of a brown knit cap, and she wore clothes that generally blended with her background. Still, the girl should have been more careful. "Hey," Crys said finally, after simply watching for a while. "You should probably be a bit more careful, you know. I watched that whole show. What if I had been a peacekeeper? Or one of the rats?"

~Alena~

Alena had recently come back from hunting, experience had taught her well, and she had slipped back into District Twelve without anyone noticing. Her leather game bag hid her bow, arrows, two rabbits, and a squirrel. It was easier to feed her family with her sister dead, it was only her and her father left. But she wished that if someone else had to die in her family, it would have been her father. Alena knew her and her sister would have been able to take care of themselves, and beside her sister had given a damn about her, unlike her father, who couldn't seem to care less as long as she brought food home.

A smirk spread on Alena's olive skinned face, when she saw a girl who had obviously just snuck back into the District. Ripped shirt by the fence, covered in mud, poor thing. It also looked like she'd come home empty handed. Probably a novice hunter, or at least a clumsy one. She sighed and shook her head, so many people in the District had to turn to illegal hunting to stay alive, and feed their families. This poor girl could have a family at home, that she'd have to return to without any food. Sad. Alena had been hunting for years now, after being whipped once, she'd learned to perfect the art of slipping in and out of the District on hunting trips without getting caught.

Another girl who had appeared, voiced Alena'a exact thoughts. The girl would have to be a lot more careful, if she didn't she'd end up whipped, an avox, or dead. She had only seen the end of the girl slipping through the fences, but it was more than enough to put the pieces together and realize she had been hunting. There were people who would turn her in, and there were Peacekeepers. Of course a lot of pieces keepers would turn a blind eye to the Alena's hunting, as many of them bought her game at the Hob. And that was what got her whipped, she hadn't been careful enough one day, and a less forgiving Peacekeeper gave her thirty lashes. Since then she'd been like a phantom, even her boots wrapped in brown cloth to hide tracks. "She's right you know. If your not careful you'll get caught one of these days." Alena gestured to her empty pack. "And it wouldn't even have been worth it."

Okay, so maybe it could have been considered a momentary lapse of judgment to have been seen by one person, but two? That was unacceptable. Kayden must have been having a really off day or something. She reached up to pull a leaf from her braided hair before answering both of the girls who had seen her. "Yeah, yeah, I know... It's just. An off day for me, I guess.

[/color]" An off week is more like it. Still, these two didn't need to know that, so the little tidbit of information would remain hidden.

She looked at the girl who had somehow managed to find just about a weeks worth of food, by Kay's reckoning. She turned to untangle the ruined shirt from the fence, stuffing the shredded material into her bag before turning to look at the girl with the flowers and then the girl with all of the game, "So, where did you get all the game? I was out there all day, and my traps all came up empty. They never all come up empty. I'm good at trapping." She shook her head, completely perplexed at how this girl could catch so much game, while she got absolutely nothing. Kayden was a good hunter. She knew that. She was a surprisingly talented archer, not that anybody knew that.

With a sigh, Kayden adjusted the quiver on her back a little then brushed some of the hair that had been pulled from her braid back out of her face, tucking a strand or two behind her ear. "So, assuming that neither of you are peacekeepers, what are your names? I'm Kayden.[/color]" Alright, so it was a bit of a risk to tell them her name, but Kayden figured there wasn't much they could really do to her. After all, she hadn't actually caught anything, so really they had no fully tangible evidence that she had been hunting. Her traps were all taken down and disassembled so that wasn't technically even proof.

Whatever, maybe in her exasperation at the day she'd turned into a glutton for punishment. At this point, she could care less. Except that she still had no clue how she was going to feed her sister and her mother.[/size][/blockquote]○•○•○•○[/center]

Alena smiled a bit, so her name was Kayden. And she attributed this sticky situation to an off day. It reminded Alena of when she first started hunting, she'd had no teacher, it was all trial and error. Meaning many days she came home empty handed. But never had she been so blatantly obvious about what she'd been up to. Perhaps Kayden had something on her mind that was clouding her judgment, or maybe she just hadn't got the hang of this whole hunting and not getting caught thing.

When Kayden mentioned the game that Alena had caught, and then went on to explain all her traps came up empty, Alena felt bad. She'd had a great haul today, enough for her and her father, and then some to bring over to Ness's family. "I've been doing this for a really long time. I sometimes use traps, but normally I stick to my bow." Well that explained how she killed all of said game, now that left where. "I've been tracking for a long time too, so basically I roamed the forest all day, spending careful attention to water sources that animals use, and once I find something, one arrow is all I need. That's basically it, I wouldn't want to give away all my secrets."

Feeling a little more at ease knowing that neither of these two girls were going to turn her in, Alena decided it would be okay to introduce herself. "I'm Alena. I live in the Seam with my dad." There was no use denying the fact she was among the poorest of the poor. It was what it was, as long as she managed to scrape by, that was all that mattered. And of course helping Ness wherever she could, she had too much in common with that girl too let her go hungry when she was perfectly capable of hunting enough to give her at least something, even if it wasn't much.

"You have a family to feed?" She asked carefully as some people were touchy about the subject. "I know a kids around here are left with the responsibility of looking after their families, or what's left of them. I know from experience. Lost my mom and sister. But with dad in the mines all day, the work load falls on me." Alena could sympathize with someone who had lost a family member, or was struggling to get by. It wasn't easy. Everyone had their own unique story of how things came to be in their lives, and most of the time there was no fairytale ending.
