Ki was wandering around District 2, for no other reason than because he needed to take a break. He and his "family" lived in an abandoned warehouse in District 1, so the walk wasn't that far at all. They'd been working very hard recently to make enough money to support themselves. Even with all four of the guys working daily, it just wasn't enough. Nozomi had been working doubly hard as well. Times were getting tougher and tougher in Panem. Maybe the Capitolite people had finally begun to realize they were being stolen from. That didn't mean good things for Ki or his family.
Ki shivered as a small breeze blew through the street. Fall was approaching rapidly, which meant that the work he usually did was going to get much harder to do. He hated winter very much. It had been the one season that killed all hope of food back when he'd been living in District 11 with his real family. They'd been farmers, and--as for any farming family--winter was pure hell. No crops meant no money, and no money meant no food. It was bad enough that the Capitol took all their crops for a meager price...when there weren't even any crops to give, then they were in real trouble.
But why he was thinking about that now, Ki wasn't quite sure. Especially when he'd come on this walk to clear his mind in the first place. Feeling stupid that he'd allowed his mind to wander to such worrying topics, he looked up to see how far he had walked.
He hadn't expected to see a person right in front of him--a person who was so close, that there was absolutely no time to stop.
BAM! The two collided heavily, and Ki stumbled backwards a few feet. He felt strangely shaken that he hadn't seen another person coming, but more than that, he actually felt bad that he'd walked right into this person. Even if they were from a richer District, this time it had been his fault.
"Sorry," he mumbled, shoving his hands into his pockets. He hadn't really expected the other person to say anything in response.
