My first night in the arena, Colton thought. He had recently stopped moving forward and was sitting in the snow near the frozen lake. His body was exhausted. He had no food in his stomach and had been moving all day. First running, then jogging, and then walking. He had only recently allowed himself to stop. He was also carrying a heavy sword, causing his arms to cramp. The sky was growing dark. Colton knew it wasn't a good place at all, but he had to make his camp soon. He slipped the straps of his pack off his back, and tried to open the clasp. His fingers were trembling, hindering his process.
Finally he got it opened. He looked inside, hoping for something to help him make his camp and keep him warm during the night. Jackpot! Colton pulled out a tent. Quickly he checked out his other supplies. He was pretty well off, although he didn't have much food. He would have to go gathering, although he didn't think there would be many plants outside of the forest. Strangely, Colton felt no desire to head in that direction. He was very familiar with forests, but he had a feeling that tributes would crowd the area. If he headed towards the mountains and cliff, he might be more isolated.
In his pack, he also had a (conveniently) snowy white tarp. It would help him at least blend in a bit. The pack contained a T-shirt, sunglasses, magnifying glass, sunscreen, water jug, peanut butter, a hammer and (he counted) fourteen nails. If he was able to find any material, he would be able to use the sunglasses or magnifying glass to create a fire using the sun to cook meat, maybe. Once he had some. And during the day, of course. If he absolutely needed to, perhaps he could burn the T-shirt. For now, though, he would cut it up into gloves and stuff the extra material in his boots. He would also have to pull his coat tighter.
First he set up the tent. It confused him slightly, but the sun wasn't even all the way down by the time he finished. He put the tarp on the top, but it still didn't cover the entire thing. He would be visible. Sucking in a deep breath, he scooped up a handful of snow. He instantly pulled back his hand. He hadn't been expecting it to be that cold. It was as cold as it would be in a tundra.
Colton's eyes widened. Was it possible...?
He didn't know much about the tundra areas. Obviously, he knew that there was a lot of snow, extreme cold, and little vegetation. But beyond that, he was lost. I have to get out of here! But where would he go? Colton started panicking. I don't know what to do! I'm not used to this! I'm just a kid!
Colton stopped abruptly. He couldn't do this to himself. He needed to be calm and focused if he wanted to win. Freaking out wasn't a part of the plan. He may not be able to win if he didn't believe in himself. That was the key. Most other tributes also didn't know much about winter areas either. He wasn't the only one out of his element. And he just needed to avoid going into the heart of the tundra. He had to get out of it. Tomorrow. Tonight he needed to eat, sleep, and watch the death toll. His chances of concealing himself further were impossible, but hopefully the tent wouldn't be visible in the dark. Although, if the moon was bright, combined with the snow it would light everything up.
Colton crawled into his tent, not closing the entrance flap yet so he could watch the skies later. He took the peanut butter out of his bag and allowed himself to eat a couple of fingerfuls. Mmmm... It tasted wonderful. Filling, too. Seeing he still had time, Colton took his sword and started fashioning his gloves. They basically just wrapped around his hands completely and tied at the end. Surprisingly, there was a bit of material left over. Colton split it in half and stuffed it is his boot.
Colton continued looking at the sky. It was almost peaceful right now...Colton was able to push his nerves to the back of his mind. Stars shone brightly. He wondered if they were the real stars, or only fake ones constructed by the Capitol. It was possible they were real, considering it was quite far from civilization. But they sparkled so much that something about them seemed deceiving. Just like everything in this arena.
Sighing, he closed the tent up for the night and promptly fell asleep despite the cold. He was exhausted. And safe.
He prayed that safety continued and that Iris and Ruby were safe.
{{OOC: EDITED. Sorry about that. There goes my epic post...}}
