People who lurk on the roof of a seaside building, watching people as the sun sets are usually labeled as creepers. I mean c'mon! what kind of person skulks around like that, watching young couples make out on empty benches along the road, and shop-owners lock up. It was plain scary to imagine somebody always watching you, all-powerful like God. Or the Capitol, come to think of it.
Meet the creeper: Thea Chloe-Zane Quincy, not your average stalker though, for how many creepers are eighteen year old girls with dangerous curves and the tendency to party too hard with too many men? Yes, Thea was absolutely insane and she threw herself at just about anyone, but she was no Capitol-wannabe. Sitting up on the roof of the skeezy building she lived in alone was just her nightly ritual. Thea couldn't afford a television--her multiple jobs barely payed enough money for her to keep a stable roof over her head. Then of course she had those bad spending habits. When she did come by money, Thea usually bought clothes or some sort of useless bauble, like the clinking bangles she stacked her arms with.
With no TV, Thea spent a lot more time on this roof than she did in her hell-hole apartment. People watching was just as entertaining and twice as hot as TV ever got. For example, Thea could see a couple of kids she had gone to school with before she dropped out, making out with each other. She had seen the same boy with his girlfriend just a few hours ago, and the girl with her boyfriend the day before yesterday. The scandal! Not even the Hunger Games were as interesting as the straw Thea spinned to gold every night. Regular life was best taken with sardonic humor and a snarky smile. Add a pinch of imagination and the tendency to observe your surroundings and even a high school drama could keep Thea's head busy for weeks.
Every now and the, of course, another inhabitant of her building, homeless people, or a few wandering strangers would find themselves up here, doing the same exact thing as Thea was, except not looking nearly as good looking. She glanced to her side and smile crept across her face. That was why she carried a weapon with her at all times, the knife at her side was a cheap kitchen knife Thea had polished until it shone and glinted with the remaining light from the fast-setting sun.
