Elaine was tired.
But why should she be? She had worked all afternoon long the day before, and she was used to that; she had spent more time in the field than just the whole afternoon before. She tried to justify that to herself, and commanded her body to move, but she found out she couldn't. She lifted her torso from the bed, only to flop back down a few seconds later.
A yawn escaped her lips. She never felt this tired before. She finally forced herself to stand up, and to support herself she placed a hand on the wall, pushing it as she walked to the front door. She wasn't even sure what time it was. Elaine opened the door quietly, as to not wake her little brother and mother, and glanced outside.
Morning. Well, early morning, Elaine decided. The sky was a dark tint of blue, but Elaine could see that in the far distance, the sky was slowly turning lighter. This must be the reason why I'm so out of the loop, Elaine thought grimly. She woke up way too early.
Her free hand swooped to her face automatically, despite the fact that she had already stifled the yawn. Surreptitiously, Elaine examined her surroundings. No one else seemed to be awake; the streets were empty and, even though Elaine does not like to talk to people much, she found the silence eerie.
She slid down to the ground, her clothes brushing against the wall behind her and providing a bit of comfort as she sat on the ground. Huh. Elaine thought about the Peacekeepers, and how glad she was that not one of them was about. But shouldn't they be?
Elaine shook the thought off. She didn't like wasting thoughts on those Peacekeepers. She remained a firm believer that they don't deserve that kind of attention. After all, one of them killed her father. It was a good thing she wasn't the kind of person hell bent on revenge.
And strangely enough, she still sat there, staring to empty space as she contemplated with what to do on this newly found spare time, as she couldn't summon the ability to sleep.
