Jayla Flyrose, District 9

Jayla Flyrose is a short, skinny girl for her age of fifteen, only 5 foot, one inch and weighing in at 105 pounds. Her hair is straight and light brown, almost always in a braid. She has deep blue eyes and a smile that always dances across her lips. Her eyebrows are in a perpetual arch shape, making her look like she is always surprised. Her small nose sits in the exact center of her equally small face.
Jayla loves to wear soft, light colors. She believes they bring out her eyes and wonderful smile. Jayla also loves her hands. They have long, slender fingers which are great for holding her bow and arrow. She always stands straight, brought on from years of her mother telling her not to slouch. Whenever she sits, her ankles are crossed, left over right.

Jayla Flyrose likes to think of herself as a likable person, and most of the time she is! However, she does have a short temper and with her excellent archery skills, one does not want to get her mad during a hunt. Jayla does have a very soft, nurturing side as well. Being the eldest girl in the family after her mother died, Jayla has taken the role of mom in the family.

Music has always been one of Jayla's favorite things. Before her mother died, she would always sing to the family before bed. When out on a hunt, Jayla always sings a song to the mockingjays that surround the hunting grounds.

Being the eldest girl in the family, Jayla has learned to hide her emotions well to avoid disappointing her younger siblings, except for her temper, of course. Whenever there is sorrow, Jayla almost never breaks down in front of other people. Since she likes to hunt alone, it's the best time for her to let her emotions loose.

Along with the pressure of hiding all her emotions, Jayla has to be very caring. Her mother never let a single one of Jayla's sisters cry without a warm embrace being there. Jayla tries very hard to follow in her mother's footsteps and give her sisters the same love her mother gave them, no matter how hard it is.

When Jayla was eleven, her mother got a horrible case of the flu and, despite the district healer's best efforts, died. Jayla was left to be the 'mother' of three young girls. It was all the father could do to keep food on the table, for Jayla's mother had been an amazing hunter, setting flawless traps. Jayla's father was wonderful with a bow and arrow and began to teach Jayla, just in case something happened to him as well.

Jayla soon mastered the bow and arrow and began to bring home kill of her own. When twilight arrived, Jayla and her father would go into the forest to collect kill of their own.

Jayla has been taking the tesserae every year since she turned twelve to help her family out. She forbade her sisters to do the same once they reached the age of twelve, yet one year she allowed her next oldest sibling to do so since the family was having a very tough time. Luckily, no one from her family was ever reaped for the Hunger Games.

Jayla's best friend is Lieslie. She is three years older than Jayla, making her old enough to work in the hunting forests. When Lieslie was still in school, and Jayla's mother was still alive, the two were inseparable. They would go everywhere together and play games on the streets of District 9.
