Name: Liyra Trusdale
Nickname: Liy (lie)
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Liyra had long, curly blonde hair. But not the normal 'yellow' blonde. It's pale, like the moonlight, and curls in a lucious flow to the base of her back. Her eyes are a very bright shade of blue, nearly gray in some cases. They change from Green to Blue to Gray, depending on her mood and the day. She mostly wears red or blue plaid shirts to show off her figure, and dark 'skinny' jeans with black workboots.
Like her brother, she prefers to wear a hat. But her hat matches her outfit each day. Liyra's arms are the accurate leangth for her body, and she is neither slight chubby nor exceedingly skinny. Her height is 5'7, which is a little taller than she would like to be. Her skin is a bright, healthy shade of pale white. Her facial features closely relate to her brothers, though she isn't actually related to him.
Personality:
She is always on good behavior, never speaking out of bounds. Liyra listens well and can complete nearly any task, though she may be slowed by some mental insurities. Her eyes reflect her pure and spirited nature, which draws in much attention. She loves every animal, but loves to hunt with her weapon of choice: A spear. Though she can kill animals, killing humans sickens her and scares the light right out of her.
Liyra loves to sing, and she can usually hum a tune and a mockingjay will pitch in with her. But only when she's not busy at school or trying to find work. She loves to try anything new, and is sometimes an adrenaline drunkie. She's helpful and polite, but has a mean streak due to her unstable history. Her mean streak can last days.
When she gets mean, she is serious. She goes to throwing things and screaming curse words at every stranger she sees. Never before has she physically harmed anyone, but we never know when that may be. Her eyes turn to a cold gray, and she feels to love towards anybody. It's very much like every little crack of light seeps through her body and into another demension.
History:
Liyra smiled as she watched the lonely mutt slither across to the butcher shop. The pale gray bluetick was undeniably cute, but of course everything was cute to a 5 year old Liyra. Gripping the hand of her mother, she walked beside the woman until they came to a stop at their front door. "Mama, can I have a brownie when we get inside?" She asked innocently, peering up to Helia with those huge, blue eyes. A sigh came as a reply, then helia sat on the top of the stairs. Confused, Liyra ran over, holding out her arms. Helia scooped up the child into her arms, then sat her on the cool wood beside her. "Liyra, can you listen for a minute?" Helia asked, looking down at the kid. In return, Liyra nodded her head, listening intensely as her mother spoke in a hushed voice. "Baby, I'm not your real mama. Your real mama lives in another District, but she didn't want you. Your father and I wanted you so badly that the nice lady decided to give you to us." She broke the news, being as gentle with her tone as possible. Liyra sat, confused and aware. "So, you ain't my real mama? Why did the lady not want me?" She started to cry, the feeling of being unwanted creeping up to her and enveloping her like a blanket. Tears ran down her pale face, and Helia instantly felt bad about telling her this now. "No, no, no, she wanted you, just not as much as we do." Helia kissed the top of Liyra's head, hugging her close. "We love you and you belong to us. forget about what I just told you. Go get as many brownies as you can eat." She picked Liyra up and patted her bottom, encouraging her to go inside. Still wary and misunderstanding, she lumbered slowly into the kitchen.
-----------------------------------------
Liyra woke up, her face slightly cracked from the dried tears. Only a few hours ago, she had been told of her father's death. Unwilling to get out of the comfort of her sheets, she rolled over and disappeared into the gray, thick cloth. If her father had died, as far as she was concerned, she did, too. More tears tried to sprout from her eyes, burning and searing behind her closed eyelids. But she was all cried out, the torture of losing her best friend at it's peak. Quiet, dry sobs came from deep within her throat, ripping apart the delecate flesh that enabled her to talk. A knock on the door made her bury her face into her pillow, and Felix came in quietly. Gently, he tried to roll her over, but she backlashed and smacked him in his face. Still, a little more rough, he tugged on her nightdress. "Stop! Leave me alone!" She screamed, the noise muffled by the pillow. Then, more tears came, and they laid together, crying the pain out with each other.
------------------------------------------------
Brushing out her elbow-leangth hair, she stood looking in front of the mirror. Pale green eyes stared back, the same face and features of herself reflecting in the mirror. But the stranger was not her, not 11 year-old Liyra. Somehow, she had mellowed out from the excitable, loud little girl she once was. A sigh escaped her lips, and she turned away from the piece of glass. Liyra walked over to her bed, throwing old and dirty clothes from the matress as she laid in her gray wool blanket's warmth. Slowly, her eyes drifted in and out of focus, fatigue taking control as she fell into a dreamless sleep.
She woke to the muffled screams of an older woman. Mother! She tripped from her bed, her still tiny feet pattering on the wooden floor down the hallway. Bringing herself to a halt, she glanced in her mother's room, afraid to discover what may be wrong. But, standing in the doorway, completely frozen, she knew what was wrong. As if it were slow motion, she watched as Felix sank the knife into their mothers' chest, watched as the hot, sticky liquid squirted from the entry point and covering his hands, stanining them crimson. Her voice suddenly stopped working, panick taking control and squeezing her heart with it's freezing hands. tears ran from her eyes, and a broken sob popped from her vocals. Suddenly, her voice came back, unleashing it's bloodcurling scream that even the Devil would hear. Suddenly, Felix made his way to her, his body still covered in their mother's blood. She stumbled backwards, arms flailing to hold her balance as she made her way to the door, still screaming. Just as she touched the nob, the District Peacekeepers bursts through the door, examining the scene. Felix, covered in blood, and still young Liyra crouched onto the ground, screaming hysterically. The last she saw of her brother, Felix Truesdale, was him ranting, being drug out of the house and sent to the Capitol.
----------------------------------------------
A vase crashed to the floor, shattering into a hundred large pieces. A tired sigh came from fourteen-year-old Liyra, putting down her duster as she swept the shards into a plastic bag. "I'll glue it together later," she mumbled as she replaced dusting with sweeping. She had almost finished when a thought popped into her mind. Spring cleaning would be so much easier if mother was still around, she thought, but instantly regretted it. She had no time for living in the past, so she just swept faster and started on cooking supper. Humming, she washed her dinnerplate, but her quiet hum became a song with loud, pure lyrics.
"You were my conscience,
so solid but now you're like water.
And we started drowning,
but it's not like we'd sink any farther!
I let my heart go,
it's somewhere down at the bottom.
But I'll get a new one and come back
for the hope that you've stolen...
I'll stop the world, I'll stop the world
from turning into a Monster and eating us alive
Don't you ever wonder how we survive?
Well, now that you're gone, the world...
It's ours!"
Liyra stopped, the smile disappearing from her face. Those lyrics.... They reminded her of Felix. She finished washing and drying her plate, then set off to bed early, planning on returning to school for the first time in a near month.
